W&L BASEBALL FALLS TO MARY WASHINGTON, 10-8
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Mary Washington junior centerfielder
Mike Drummond (Newport News, Va./Denbigh) and junior second baseman
John Chiles (Gordonsville, Va./Louisa) combined to go 8-for-10 with
three runs batted in and five runs scored to lift the Eagles to a 10-8
victory over Washington and Lee in baseball action on Sunday afternoon
at Smith Field.
The Eagles (27-10-1) assumed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as junior
designated hitter Max Seaman (Fisherville, Va./Wilson Memorial) recorded
an RBI single. Mary Washington threatened to score again as they had
runners on first and second with no outs, however, the Generals put
an end to the threat by ending the inning with a triple-play.
After the Eagles extended their advantage to 2-0 with a run in the top
of the second, W&L scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning
to grab its first lead of the contest (3-2). Junior centerfielder Bobby
Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) highlighted the inning with
a two-run double. Mary Washington then plated one run in the third and
two more in the fourth to reclaim the lead at 5-3.
Things stayed that way until the sixth when the Generals tallied four
runs to gain a 7-5 advantage. Senior rightfielder Todd Gosselink (Austin,
Texas/St. Stephens) keyed the inning with a three-run home run to leftfield.
However, the Eagles once again clawed back to regain the lead at 8-7
thanks to a three run seventh inning. Drummond and junior leftfielder
Aaron Altscher (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) each produced an RBI
double in the seventh.
Mary Washington added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth and the
Generals rounded out the scoring on a ninth inning RBI double from Littlehale.
Littlehale finished the afternoon 3-for-6 with three runs batted in,
while Gosselink delivered three RBI and scored two times. In addition
to Drummond and Chiles, Altscher finished 3-for-5 with a pair of runs
batted in.
Senior Reeb Shabman (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) earned the victory
as he fired 4 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed four runs on five hits
and struck out four. Sophomore Stefan Schoen (Pipersville, Pa./Central
Bucks East) pitched the final three innings to pick up his second save
of the season. Junior Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) took
the loss and slipped to 2-2 on the year.
The loss ends the Generals season with an overall record of 18-15-1.

W&L BASEBALL FALLS TO SCAD, 8-3
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Savannah College of Art & Design
scored four runs in the ninth inning to extend a 4-3 lead into an 8-3
victory over Washington and Lee in baseball action on Saturday afternoon
at Smith Field.
The Bees (22-18) scored a pair of runs in the top half of the first
inning to claim a 2-0 lead, however, the Generals responded with a pair
of runs to tie the score at 2-2 after one inning.
The Bees regained the lead at 3-2 as senior centerfielder Jorge Garcia
(Princeton, Fla./Homestead) scored an unearned run in the sixth inning.
Once again, the Generals responded quickly to knot the game at 3-3 as
freshman pinch hitter Matt Marino (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Rye Country
Day) recorded his first RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly to centerfield
in the sixth. The Bees reclaimed a one-run lead (4-3) with a run in
the seventh inning, before plating the four runs in the ninth to provide
the final scoring margin.
Junior Harold Jones (Miami, Fla./Miami Corel Park) earned the win and
improved to 5-3 this season as he fired a complete-game, allowing three
runs, one earned, on nine hits. He struck out six and walked just one.
Sophomore Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) took the loss and slipped
to 4-6 on the season. He pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing six runs, five
earned, on 10 hits. Kagey walked four and struck out six.
Offensively, W&L was paced by junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta,
Ga./Pace Academy), sophomore rightfielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford,
Pa./Unionville) and senior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City,
Md./Glenelg) who each registered two hits. Mulhern added an RBI, while
junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep)
also chipped in an RBI.
SCAD was paced by senior first baseman Ryan Fickle (Cameron Park, Calif./El
Dorado) who went 3-for-5, while four other Bees recorded two hits apiece,
including Garcia, who also drove in two runs.
The Generals (18-14-1) return to action when they host Mary Washington
in the season finale on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

W&L BASEBALL DOWNS SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN, 7-6
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior centerfielder
Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) went 3-for-5 and scored
four runs to help lift the Generals to a 7-6 victory over Savannah College
of Art & Design on Friday afternoon at Smith Field.
After the Bees assumed a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of
the first, the Generals responded with a pair of runs to claim a 2-1
lead after the first inning. Junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm
Harbor, Fla./Berkely Prep) recorded an RBI groundout, while sophomore
catcher Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) laced an RBI single
to leftfield.
The Generals (18-13-1) extended their advantage to 3-1 as Mulhern drove
in Littlehale with a third inning RBI groundout. W&L plated two
more runs in the fifth to push its lead to 5-1 on an RBI double from
Gladysz and a sacrifice fly by sophomore leftfielder Dan Kagey (Marietta,
Ga./Lovett).
SCAD cut its deficit to 5-3 with a pair of runs in the top half of the
sixth, however, the Generals responded with a single tally in the bottom
of the sixth on an RBI single from Gladysz to again claim a three-run
lead (6-3). The Bees managed to cut the W&L lead to one (6-5) with
single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, however, W&L senior
third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) provided the
Generals with an insurance run and a 7-5 lead with an RBI double in
the eighth. SCAD freshman third baseman Scott Frederick (Savannah, Ga./Lafayette
Jefferson) provided a ninth inning RBI single for the final run of the
game.
W&L sophomore pitcher Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) earned
the victory and moved to 6-3 on the season. The lefty fired 7 1/3 innings,
allowing five runs, three earned, walking one and striking out four.
Junior Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) pitched the final
1 2/3 innings to pick up his third save of the season. SCAD sophomore
Anthony Perez (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables) took the loss as he lasted
2 1/3 innings, surrendering three runs, two earned.
Gladysz finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and two
runs scored, while Mulhern drove in a pair of runs. SCAD (21-18) was
led offensively by senior first baseman Ryan Fickle (Cameron Park, Calif./El
Dorado) who was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Frederick also
drove in two runs for the Bees.
The Generals return to action when they host the Bees on Saturday afternoon.

W&L BASEBALL SPLITS WITH WEST VIRGINIA TECH
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior third baseman
Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) drew a two-out, bases loaded
walk in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Generals to a 4-3 victory
over West Virginia Tech in the first game of Sundays doubleheader
at Smith Field. In the second game, Tech freshman shortstop Cody Yerian
(Ashville, Ohio) hit a two-run home run in the third inning and the
Golden Bears held on for a 2-1 victory.
In the opener, the Golden Bears assumed a 2-0 after the top of the fourth
on a pair of RBI singles. However, the Generals responded with a pair
of runs in the bottom half of the fourth to knot the game at 2-2. Kozora
drove in a run with a double to centerfield, while senior rightfielder
Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephens) delivered an RBI single
to rightfield.
W&L (17-13-1) grabbed its first lead of the game (3-2) in the fifth
as junior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook)
hit a towering home run that struck the leftfield foul poll. After the
Golden Bears tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top half of the
seventh, the Generals loaded the bases with two-outs to set up Kozoras
walk-off walk.
Junior Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) earned the victory
as he relieved sophomore Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) in the
seventh inning after Dean allowed the first Golden Bear to reach base.
Sophomore Mike Wert (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) took the loss
in the second game, despite pitching five innings of four-hit ball.
He struck out two and walked a pair.
Freshman Brad Nichell (Grassy Meadow, W.Va.) earned the victory as he
scattered three hits over five innings. He allowed one run, walked one
and struck out four. Junior Matt Sosebee (Van, W. Va.) picked up the
save as he struck out the side in the seventh.
Hanson finished the doubleheader a combined 3-for-6 with a run scored,
while Gladysz drove in W&Ls lone run in the second game. Withrow
paced the Golden Bears (11-25) offensively as he was a combined 4-for-7
with and run batted in.
W&L will return to action when it hosts Savannah College of Art
& Design on Friday at 3:00 pm.

W&L BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH GUILFORD
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore pitcher
Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) fired a complete-game, six-hitter
to lead the Generals to a 3-0 victory over Guilford in game one of an
ODAC baseball doubleheader at Smith Field on Saturday afternoon. The
Generals were officially eliminated from the ODAC Tournament hunt as
the Quakers won game two, 15-7.
Dean, who improved to 5-3 and lowered his earned run average to 1.52
for the season, struck out five and walked one.
Junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep)
provided W&L with an early 1-0 lead as he singled home junior shortstop
Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) in the first inning. Following
a two-out intentional walk to Hanson in the fourth, junior centerfielder
Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) delivered a two-run
double for the final runs of the afternoon.
Senior Anthony Ramakis (Annandale, Va./Annandale) took the loss as pitched
six innings of five-hit baseball. He gave up three runs, struck out
five and walked three.
In game two, the Quakers (26-11, 12-4) struck for six runs in the second
inning and added eight more in the third in cruising to the eight-run
victory. Senior rightfielder Zach Whicker (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsythe)
finished 2-for-5 in the second game and drove in four runs, including
three on a third inning home run. Four other Quakers registered two
hits in the victory, while junior first baseman Luke Kempton (Greensboro,
N.C./Page) recorded two RBI.
W&L sophomore Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) took the loss as
he lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on five hits and two
walks. Guilford senior Joe Dooley (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) earned
the victory by pitching five innings, surrendering six runs on six hits.
W&L senior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg)
finished the afternoon 3-for-3 with two walks and a pair of runs batted
in, while Gladysz went 3-for-4 with a two walks.
The Generals (16-12-1, 6-9-1) will return to action next Sunday, April
28, when they host West Virginia Tech for a doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
The game was originally scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, however, was
delayed for one week in order for the Golden Bears to make up their
conference doubleheader which was rained out today.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore pitchers
Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) and Mike Wert (Pittsburgh, Pa./North
Allegheny) combined to pitch a one-hit shutout to lead the Generals
to a 4-0 victory in a shortened non-conference baseball contest on Wednesday
afternoon at Smith Field. The game was called after 6 2/3 innings due
to inclement weather in the area.
Kagey pitched a perfect four innings, before being removed for Wert.
The duo combined to strike out seven and did not walk a batter. With
the victory, Kagey improved to 4-4 on the season, while Wert earned
his first save.
The Generals (15-11-1) assumed a 1-0 lead after an inning of play as
junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) scored an
unearned run on single by sophomore rightfielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds
Ford, Pa./Unionville). W&L extended its lead to 3-0 after the fourth
on RBI singles from junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor,
Fla./Berkeley Prep) and sophomore second baseman Austin Allain (Weston,
Mass./Weston). Senior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg)
drove in the Generals final run with a seventh-inning RBI single.
UVa-Wise (23-11-1) senior designated hitter Seth Hall recorded the Cavaliers
lone hit with a fifth-inning infield single. Sophomore Andrew Shortt
took the loss as he pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six
hits. He struck out one and walked one.

SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team improved
to 14-11-1 overall with a 25-3 victory at Roanoke on Tuesday evening.
Sophomore pitcher Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) went 3-for-4
with five runs batted in and three runs scored. In addition, Mulhern
picked up the victory as he pitched four innings, allowing three runs
on seven hits. He struck out one and walked one.
In addition to Mulherns offense, junior first baseman Brian Gladysz
(Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) finished 4-for-5 at the plate with
five RBI and four runs scored, while junior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale
(Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and
three runs batted in. Senior rightfielder Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St.
Stephens) was 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored.
Junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) finished
the game 3-for-6 and scored four runs. With his four runs scored, Hanson
now owns the W&L single season (37) and career runs (96) records.
Roanoke (0-11) was led by rightfielder Josh Ringstaff who went 2-for-4
and drove in two runs.

ST. MARYS CITY, Md. -- Washington and Lee sophomore
Mike Wert (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) fired eight innings of four-hit
ball to lead the Generals to a 9-0 victory over St. Marys (Md.)
at The Hawks Nest on Sunday afternoon. Wert, who evened his season
record at 3-3, struck out four and walked two.
The Generals claimed a 4-0 lead after three innings as sophomore leftfielder
Paul Sibley (St. Petersburg, Fla./Shorecrest Prep) and senior third
baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) each drove in two runs
with singles.
W&L (13-11-1) plated three more runs in the fifth inning as Kozora
smacked an RBI single to rightfield and senior catcher Todd Gosselink
(Austin, Texas/St. Stephens) drove in a pair with a double to left.
The Generals rounded out the scoring in the eighth as junior centerfielder
Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) produced a two-out single
which scored a pair.
The Generals, who finished with 15 hits, were led offensively by Kozora
who finished the afternoon 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and two
runs scored. Junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy)
went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, while Littlehale was 3-for-5 with
two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Sophomore Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) pitched a scoreless
ninth inning without allowing a hit.
St. Marys (11-20-1) freshman centerfielder Matt Engelau produced
two hits, while freshman first baseman Luther Snow and junior designated
hitter Justin Saloom each finished with one hit apiece.

W&L BASEBALL SWEPT BY LYNCHBURG
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Lynchburgs Blair Hayden tossed
a complete-game, three-hitter to lead the Hornets to a 3-0 victory over
Washington and Lee in the first game of Saturdays doubleheader
at Fox Field. In game two, the Hornets struck for four runs in the first
inning and held on for a 4-3 victory to complete the sweep.
In the opener, Lynchburg (19-13, 7-7) assumed a 1-0 lead after the first
inning on an RBI double from designated hitter Colin Smith. The Hornets
tacked two on two more runs in the fifth inning to aid Haydens
cause. Hayden finished the game with five strikeouts and three walks.
W&L junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy),
junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep)

Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) added a seventh inning RBI
groundout to cut the Generals deficit to 4-3, however, W&L
could not score the tying run. Lynchburgs Mike Ranson earned the
win in game two, while Nick Beyer earned his third save of the season.
Hanson and Mulhern each recorded two hits in the second game, while
Hanson scored all three W&L runs. Sophomore Dan Kagey (Marietta,
Ga./Lovett) took the loss. He pitched six innings, allowing four runs,
three earned, while striking out four and walking four.

W&L BASEBALL KNOCKS OFF SOUTHERN VIRGINIA, 8-2
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team
broke a 2-2 tie with six runs between the fourth, fifth and sixth innings
to defeat Southern Virginia, 8-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Knights assumed an early 1-0 lead after one-half inning of play.
W&L junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy)
tied the game as he led off the Generals first inning with his fourth
home run of the season. Junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor,
Fla./Berkeley Prep) added an RBI single to give W&L a 2-1 lead after
one inning.
Following a tally by the Knights in the second, W&L broke the 2-2
tie as Hanson delivered a two-run triple in the fourth. The Generals
(12-9-1) then came back with three runs in the fifth inning as they
were aided by three SVC errors. Senior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott
City, Md./Glenelg) recorded an RBI single in the sixth inning to round
out the scoring.
Sophomore Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) fired seven innings
of five-hit ball to earn the victory and up his record to 4-2 on the
season. Dean, who allowed two unearned runs, struck out nine and walked
one.
Hanson finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with three runs batted in and
two runs scored. He also stole a base and came up a double short of
the cycle.
The Knights (8-13) were paced by junior first baseman B.J. Hanley who
went 2-for-4, while senior rightfielder Brent Haring drove in the Knights
lone run.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Mike Wert
(Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) pitched a complete game, five-hit
shutout to lead the Generals to a 14-0 victory over Roanoke in baseball
action on Tuesday afternoon at Smith Field. Wert struck out 10 with
no walks.
The Generals, who scored at least one run in all but one inning, were
aided by six Maroon errors. W&L recorded 16 hits off three different
Roanoke pitchers and had 10 different players drive in at least one
run.
Junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) led the
Generals offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and
one RBI. In addition, Hanson drew a pair of walks and stole three bases.
Sophomore leftfielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) finished
the afternoon 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in two, while sophomore
catcher Andrew Riffee (St. Albans, W. Va./Nitro) went 2-for-2 and scored
two runs.
Roanoke sophomore John Rutledge (Abingdon, Va./Abingdon) pitched five
innings and took the loss. He allowed six runs, three earned, struck
out three and walked five.

W&L BASEBALL SWEPT BY VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
NORFOLK, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan rightfielder John Kreiser
hit a two-run home run in the sixth innning to lift the Marlins to a
4-3 victory over Washington and Lee in game two of Saturday afternoons
doubleheader at Marlins Field. Kreisers home run helped the Marlins
earn a sweep of the twinbill as they were victorious in the first game,
13-1.
In the opener, Virginia Wesleyans Derrick Rawlings pitched a six-hit,
complete game to lead the Marlins. Rawlings walked just one batter and
struck out five.
The Marlins (16-12, 7-2) pounded four W&L pitchers for 13 runs on
16 hits in game one. Second baseman Danny Rosendale was 3-for-3 at the
plate with three RBI. Four other Marlins collected two hits in the opener,
while designated hitter John Kasiski and third baseman Brandon Hill
drove in two runs apiece.
In the second game, the Marlins scored first as they put two tallies
on the board in the third inning. Kasiski delievered an RBI triple and
scored when centerfielder Jeff Buter hit a sacrifice fly. The Generals
responded to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth as sophomore second baseman
Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston) drove in a pair with a single.
W&L (10-9-1, 5-6-1) assumed its first lead of the afternoon (4-3)
as senior catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephens) served
a fifth inning RBI single that scored junior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale
(Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook). That set up Kreisers sixth inning
heroics.

in the second contest and took the loss. He allowed eight hits, three
earned runs and struck out three.
Gosselink led the Generals at the plate as he finished the two games

senior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) delivered

W&L BASEBALL PLAYS BRIDGEWATER TO 2-2 TIE IN 11 INNINGS
BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team
played to an 11-inning, 2-2 deadlock against Bridgewater at Jopson Field
on Thursday afternoon. The game was called after 11-innings of play
due to darkness.
It marks the first tie for the W&L baseball squad since a 10-10
game against West Virginia Tech during the 1996 season.
W&L (10-7-1, 5-4-1) tallied two scores in the first inning as junior
shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) began the game
with a double. He moved to third two batters later when senior third

and scored on a two-out single from junior first baseman Brian Gladysz

The Eagles (6-11-1, 3-0-1) cut their deficit in half with an unearned
run in the first and tied the game on a fifth-inning RBI groundout by
Ryan McQueen.
W&L sophomore Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) pitched nine
innings, allowing one earned run on nine hits. He struck out five and
walked two batters. Hanson pitched the final two innings, striking out
three.
Chris Nall pitched the first seven innings for the Eagles, surrendering
two runs on six hits. He walked five and struck out four. Dustin Jones
fired the final four innings, allowing one-hit and registering two strikeouts.
Hanson, Gladysz and Gosselink all finished 2-for-5 at the plate for
W&L, which stranded eight baserunners. The Eagles, who left 12 on

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore second
baseman Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston) executed a squeeze bunt
that scored sophomore catcher Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville)
in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Generals to a 3-2 victory over
Eastern Mennonite in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon
at Smith Field. The Royals won game one, 2-1.
In the second game, the Generals grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs
in the third inning on an RBI doubles from junior centerfielder Bobby
Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) and junior first baseman Brian
Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep).
The Royals were held scoreless by W&L sophomore pitcher Dan Kagey
(Marietta, Ga./Lovett) until senior catcher Erik Kratz (Telford, Pa./Christopher
Dock) laced a two-out, two-run double to left field in the seventh inning
to tie the score at 2-2.
Kagey fired seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits to go along
with five strikeouts. Junior Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy)
pitched one inning of scorless relief to earn his first victory of the
season.
In the opener, EMU sophomore Ethan Hilliard (Luray, Va./Mount Carmel
Christian Academy) limited the Generals to one run on four hits over
six innings to earn the victory. Sophomore Chris Flynn (Stephens City,
Va./Sherando) pitched a scoreless seventh to tally his third save of
the season.
The Royals (16-6, 2-3), who were aided by two W&L errors in the
first game, received a fourth-inning RBI single from sophomore shortstop
Matt Lewellen (Grafton, Va./Grafton) which proved to be the game-winner.
Hanson belted his third home run of the season in the sixth inning for
W&Ls lone run. Sophomore Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison)
picked up the loss despite going the distance and allowing only one
earned run on five hits.
Kratz led the Royals at the plate, going a combined 4-for-7 with two
runs batted in. Kagey finished the afternoon 4-for-7, while Gladysz
went 3-for-7 with a run batted in.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team
slipped to 9-6 overall, 4-3 in the ODAC, with a 7-4 loss to Bridgewater
on Thursday afternoon at Smith Field.
After both teams tallied single runs in the first inning, the Eagles
added a tally in the third to take a 2-1 lead. However, the Generals
responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to claim a 3-2 advantage.
Sophomore rightfielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) drove
in a run with a sacrifice fly, while senior catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin,
Texas/St. Stephens) recorded an RBI single.
The Eagles (3-10, 1-0) tacked on four runs over the next three innings
to claim a 6-3 lead after six innings. Junior shortstop Ryan McQueen
(Purcellville, Va./Loudoun County) and senior second baseman Jamie Lawhorne
(Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) each tallied an RBI during the span.
Lawhorne provided Bridgewater with a 7-3 advantage as he clubbed a ninth-inning
home run to left center field. W&L junior shortstop Michael Hanson
(Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) drove in the Generals final run with an
RBI groundout in the ninth.
Bridgewater sophomore Dan Proctor (North Richland Hills, Texas/East
Pennsboro) pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs to
earn his first victory of the season. Proctor, who was aided by three
Eagle double plays, surrendered just one earn run. Sophomore Dustin
Jones (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) pitched the ninth-inning to earn
his first save of the season. Lawhorne finished the afternoon 3-for-4
with two runs batted in and two runs scored, while sophomore first baseman
J.R. Estes (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) went 2-for-3 and drove in one
run.
W&L (9-6, 4-3) sophomore Mike Wert (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny)
took the loss and fell to 1-3 as he pitched five innings. He gave up

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore pitcher
Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) fired a complete-game shutout to lead
the Generals to a 5-0 victory over Randolph-Macon is game two of an
ODAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Smith Field. Kagey finished
the game allowing three hits, while walking four and striking out seven.
The Yellow Jackets prevailed in game one, 5-2.
In game two, the Generals assumed a 3-0 lead in the third inning as
junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) drove in
a run with a triple and junior centerfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa
Park, Ill/Willowbrook) drove Hanson home with a single. Littlehale would
later come around to score on a wild pitch.
The Generals (9-5, 4-2) tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth
on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly from Hanson and fifth-inning double
by sophomore leftfielder Paul Sibley (St. Petersburg, Fla./Shorecrest
Prep).
In the opener, Yellow Jacket (5-6, 1-3) junior Doug McCray (Richmond,
Va./Mills E. Godwin) hurled a complete game, allowing two runs on seven
hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.
McCray was aided by four Randolph-Macon tallies in the second inning
as senior leftfielder Davy Durham (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) and
junior first baseman Keith Harvey (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) tallied
two-out RBI.
The Generals managed to cut their deficit to 4-2 on an RBI double from
Littlehale in the third and an RBI double from Sibley in the fourth.
However, that would be as close as W&L would get as the Yellow Jackets
tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.
Littlehale led the Generals on the afternoon, going a combined 4-for-8
with two runs batted in.

Generals swept two games at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team
scored eight runs in the first-inning and held on for a 13-10 victory
over Villa Julie on Smith Field Thursday afternoon.
Junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) began the
inning with a double and advanced to third on a single by junior centerfielder
Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook). Hanson and Littlehale
would score two batters later as sophomore rightfielder Bryan Mulhern
(Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) delivered a single. However, Mulhern was
out at second as he tried to advance on the throw. Junior first baseman
Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) reached on an error
and moved to second on a single from senior catcher Todd Gosselink (Austin,
Texas/St. Stephens). Sophomore leftfielder Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett)
followed with a double that plated two runs to make it 4-0. After junior
designated hitter Kyle Droppers (Dallas, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) was hit
by a pitch, sophomore second baseman Austin Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston)
recorded two runs batted in with a double. Allain would later score
the eighth run of the inning as he and Hanson executed a double steal.
The Mustangs (0-1) cut their deficit to 8-2 in the third as senior centerfielder
Bret Holmes and junior first baseman Andy Welling drove in one run apiece.
After Villa Julie tacked on two more runs in the fifth to cut the W&L
lead to 9-4, the Generals responded with three runs in the sixth to
assume a 12-4 advantage. W&L pieced together four consecutive singles
from Mulhern, Gladysz, Gosselink and Kagey for its three runs.
However, the Mustangs charged back with two runs of their own to trail
12-6. Welling led off with a home run to left center field, while junior
rightfielder Robert Arnold tallied an RBI single. After an eighth-inning
sacrifice fly from Gosselink, the Mustangs plated four runs in the ninth
to provide the final margin.
For the game, Hanson, Mulhern and Kagey each went 3-for-5, while Kagey
drove in four runs. Hanson and Mulhern each scored a pair of runs. Sophomore
pitcher Mike Wert (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) moved to 1-2 on
the season as he pitched six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits.

FOR CAREER HITS IN 16-2 WIN OVER KINGS POINT
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior third baseman
Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) went 3-for-5 with two runs
batted in and broke the school record for hits in a career with 143
as the Generals defeated the United States Merchant Marine Academy,
16-2, on Monday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Generals (5-4) assumed a 1-0 lead after one inning as junior shortstop
Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) doubled to open the inning,
moved to third on a single from junior center fielder Bobby Littlehale
(Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) and scored as Kozora grounded into a
double play.
The Mariners (0-1) responded to grab a 2-1 lead as freshman catcher
Roberto Herrera and senior left fielder Adam LaReau drove in runs in
the top of the second.
However, W&L managed to tie the game at 2-2 on an RBI single from
sophomore right fielder Paul Sibley (St. Petersburg, Fla./Shorecrest
Prep) in the second. The Generals broke the tie with three runs in the
third as Littlehale began the inning with a single and scampered to
third on a single from Kozora. Junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm
Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) drove in Littlehale and Kozora with a one-out
double and scored on a single from senior right fielder Todd Gosselink
(Austin, Texas/St. Stephens).
The Generals extended their lead to 7-2 on RBI singles from Gladysz
and Sibley in the fifth and broke the game open with nine runs in the
sixth, highlighted by Kozoras two hits which gave him the record.
In addition, Littlehale hit two-run home run to left field, while Gladysz
drove in a pair of runs with a double to left field.

in and four runs scored. Littlehale was 3-for-5 with three runs scored

Valley) each drove in a run. However, the Generals tied the game at
2-2 as sophomore right fielder Brian Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville)
and Gladysz drove in runs.
The Wasps (2-3, 1-1) broke the 2-2 tie with two more runs in the second
on a two-run double from Spencer. E&H extended its advantage to

drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning and Mulhern hit a

Still trailing 5-4 entering the seventh, the Generals (4-4, 1-1) tied

hit his first career home run to lead off the inning. After Mulhern
struck out, Gladysz drew a walk to set up Gosselinks heroics.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior designated

five runs batted in to help lead the Generals to a 13-2 victory over
Muhlenberg in baseball action at Smith Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Generals, who took two of three games from the Mules on the weekend,
assumed a 1-0 lead after one inning as junior shortstop Michael Hanson
(Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) opened the bottom half of the inning with
a walk. After stealing second and third, Hanson scored on a sacrifice
fly to center field by senior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City,
Md./Glenelg).
The Mules threatened to score in the top half of the second inning as
they loaded the bases with no outs. However, W&L sophomore pitcher
Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) worked out of the jam by recording
two straight strikeouts and inducing a fly ball to center field to end
the inning.
W&L plated two more runs in the fourth as Kozora scored on a single
by sophomore right fielder Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville).
Junior first baseman Brian Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep),
who laced a single to left field, would later come around to score on
a wild pitch.
The Generals broke the game open in the sixth inning as they scored

The lefty allowed six hits and one walk while striking out five. Hanson

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore pitcher
Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) hurled a no hitter in the second game
of a doubleheader to help the Generals earn a split with Muhlenberg
on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field. Kageys no hitter in an 8-0
W&L victory came after the Mules handed the Generals a 7-5 setback
in the opener.
Kageys no hitter was the seventh at W&L since the 1907 season
and the first to do so since Bob Weston in the 1999 season opener. Kagey
ended the seven-inning contest with six strikeouts and just one walk.
In the second game, the Generals scored six runs in the first two innings
to aid Kageys cause. W&L plated a pair of unearned runs in
the first inning on a throwing error by Mules shortstop Mike Morris
(Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central).
The Generals erupted for four runs in the second inning as senior third
baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) produced a one-out
RBI single that scored sophomore second baseman Austin Allain (Weston,
Mass./Weston) from second base. Sophomore catcher Bryan Mulhern (Chadds
Ford, Pa./Unionville) followed Kozora with a double that scored two
runs. Kozora would score an unearned run later in the second inning
courtesy of another Mule error.
Junior leftfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) drove
in two runs in the second game with an RBI double in the third inning
and and RBI single in the fifth.
In the opener, Muhlenberg senior pitcher Josh Carter (Mount Vernon,
N.Y./Rye Country Day) limited the Generals to five hits and recorded
five strikeouts to lead the Mules. Junior third baseman Steve Rohn (Nazareth,
Pa./Nazareth) went 3-for-3 with one RBI, while junior leftfielder Justin
Graf (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) tallied three RBI as he connected for
a three-run triple in a four-run Mule fifth inning.
Kozora finished the afternoon 5-for-8 with four runs batted in. Littlehale
went 3-for-4 in the two games with four walks, five runs scored and
three RBI.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team fell
to 0-2 on the season with an 8-2 loss at Emory (Ga.) University on Tuesday
afternoon.
The Eagles (2-1) started the scoring in the third inning on a two-run
double by freshman outfielder Bryan Langbord after W&L sophomore
pitcher Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) walked the first two batters
of the inning.
Emory pushed its lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by
senior outfielder Tim Hobbs and an RBI double by junior first baseman
Tommy Lee, who later scored on an error by W&L second baseman Austin
Allain (Weston, Mass./Weston).
The Generals responded in the eighth inning as sophomore catcher Bryan
Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) singled home junior shortstop

its season opener to Oglethorpe, 12-6, on Monday afternoon at Hermance
Stadium. The Generals out-hit the Stormy Petrals, 14-12, however, stranded
11 runners on base.
After plating one run in the first inning, the Stormy Petrals scored
three in the second as Charles Coke belted a solo home run to left center
and Andy Crosby hit a two-run homer to left field to give Oglethorpe
a 4-0 advantage after two innings.
The Generals (0-1) cut their deficit to 4-2 with runs in the third and
fourth innings. Junior shortstop Michael Hanson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy)
hit a solo home run in the third.
Oglethorpe (3-0) broke the game open with seven runs on four hits and
two W&L errors in the fifth inning.
W&L scored four runs in the ninth to provide the final margin. Hanson
led off the inning with his second home run of the game. Senior third
baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) drew a one out walk
and advanced to second on a single by sophomore right fielder Bryan
Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville). Freshman third baseman Adam Bullock
(Alexandria, Va./Gonzaga) then reached on an error which scored Kozora
and moved Mulhern to third base. Sophomore catcher Andrew Riffee drove
in Kozora with a single to left field and junior designated hitter Kyle
Droppers (Dallas, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) drove in the final run of the
inning with a fielders choice.
The Generals were led offensively by Hanson, who went 2-for-4 with two
RBI. Mulhern was 3-for-4 at the plate and scored one run, while Kozora
went 2-for-4.
Oglethorpes Andy Crosby pitched seven innings to earn the victory,
while W&L sophomore Mike Wert (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny)
took the loss as he gave up nine hits and nine runs in 4.1 innings.
The Generals return to action when they travel to Emory (Ga.) for a
2:00 pm game on Tuesday.
