However, the Tigers were unsuccessful at two-point attempts both times. Hampden-Sydney is 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the ODAC following a 24-13 win over Emory & Henry on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers trailed 13-3 at the half, but exploded for three second half touchdowns to produce its first win over the Wasps since the 1987 season. Sophomore Daniel Park leads the defense with 31 tackles and a sack.

SOPHOMORE SENSATION:
Sophomore wide receiver Taylor Callaham has been a pleasant surprise this season. Callaham leads the team in touchdowns (6), receptions (20) and receiving yards (282). His six touchdowns receiving are just two shy of the W&L single-season record held by Bruce Green since the 1969 season. Callaham caught nine passes for 73 yards last season.

MOVIN' ON UP:
Senior running back Chris Sullivan continues to move up the W&L career record charts. Sullivan needs just 47 yards to set a new W&L record for career all-purpose yards and break the record of 5,184 yards set by Marc Watson (1997-01) last season. Sullivan is also 504 yards away from breaking Watson's school career rushing record (3,112). Sullivan is averaging 118.4 yards rushing and 192.0 all-purpose yards per game this season. He is a First Team Preseason All-America selection as an all-purpose runner by Lindy's College Football Preview Magazine.

TOUCHDOWN TWEARDY:
Freshman quarterback Greg Tweardy saw his first action at Catholic last Saturday, filling in for the injured Peter Dean. Tweardy completed 11-of-23 passes for 177 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. The two touchdowns tied for the season-high for the Generals. Tweardy is likely to receive the starting nod over junior Sean McGarvey on Saturday against Hampden-Sydney.

STERLING STAVISH:
Senior linebacker Matt Stavish, a native of Sterling, Va., has been putting forth a sterling effort for the 2002 season. Thus far, Stavish leads the ODAC in sacks (1.00 spg.) and is fourth in tackles (9.6 tpg.). A starter for the third-straight season, Stavish has posted 209 tackles (27.5 for a loss), 5.5 sacks and six interceptions for his career.

ON THE SUBJECT:
On the subject of defensive prowess, junior defensive back Ted Maffitt is also having an outstanding 2002 campaign. Maffitt leads the ODAC with an average of 0.8 interceptions per game and is third in the conference in tackles (9.8 tpg.). In just 12 games as a starter at defensive back, Maffitt claims nine career interceptions.

FURTHERMORE:
In addition, junior linebacker Ben Krasnoff leads the ODAC in tackles (11.8 tpg.). Krasnoff missed the Generals' opener due to an injury but already claims 47 total stops.

KEEP AN EYE ON THIS:
The Generals have had tremendous success offensively against Hampden-Sydney over the past three years. During that span, W&L has averaged 453.0 yards per game, including a whopping 225.7 yards per game on the ground. Last season, the Generals accumulated 461 yards of total offense and 39 points against the Tigers.

FEAST OR FAMINE:
W&L's point production this season has come mostly from two players, senior running back Chris Sullivan and sophomore wide receiver Taylor Callaham. The two have combined to score 66 of the Generals' 85 points this season. Junior wide receiver Jonathan Brimer is the only General other than Sullivan or Callaham to have scored a touchdown this season.

SECOND QUARTER WOES:
W&L has had its share of problems in the second quarter this season. Through five games, the Generals are being outscored 33-9 in the second quarter. On the flip side, W&L has allowed just three first quarter points all season.

TAKE IT TO THE HOUSE:
The Generals' defense has forced 121 turnovers since the beginning of the 1998 season, but has scored just one defensive touchdown during that span. In fact, W&L has gone 36 straight games without scoring a defensive touchdown.

OH SO CLOSE:
The Generals have had numerous heart-breaking defeats in recent memory, including a 21-14 overtime loss to Johns Hopkins in week one. All told, W&L has lost 11 games by seven points or less since the beginning of the 1998 season.
