WASHINGTON AND LEE FOOTBALL ENDS SEASON WITH A 46-14
WIN OVER GREENSBORO
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee forced four turnovers and outgained
Greensboro, 493-200, in defeating the Pride, 46-14, on Saturday afternoon
at Wilson Field. The Generals (5-5) were led by senior running back Marc Watson (Marietta,
Ga./Walton), who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns and caught five
passes for 74 yards. Watson became W&Ls career rushing leader
on a 41-yard touchdown run with 8:17 remaining in the game. His career
total of 3,112 yards surpassed the record of 3,072 held by Stewart Atkinson
since the 1979 season. Watson was complimented by junior running back Chris Sullivan (San Antonio,
Texas/Alamo Heights), who rushed for 118 yards and three scores. Sullivan
also returned a punt 71 yards to the Pride 2-yard line setting up senior
fullback Kyle Overstreets (White Oak, Texas/White Oak) 1-yard touchdown
run with 13:00 remaining in the game. Sullivan finishes the season with
a W&L-record 2,024 all-purpose yards. Greensboro (5-5) returned the ensuing kickoff to the W&L 35-yard
line and got on the board two plays later as senior wide receiver George
Washington (Brooklyn, N.Y./Manhattan) hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass
from senior quarterback Tommy Waters (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Cooper City)
as time expired in the first half. For the Generals, sophomore quarterback Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James
Madison) completed 14-of-23 attempts for 177 yards, while junior tight
end Jay Thomas (Houston, Texas/Kincaid) snared four passes for 68 yards.
Senior linebacker Jeff Bahl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day)
amassed 11 tackles, blocked a punt and recovered a fumble. Senior cornerback
Chris Shortall (San Anselmo, Calif./Marin Catholic) recorded four tackles,
two interceptions and blocked a punt. Greensboro was led by freshman slotback Quentin Caldwell (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook),
who rushed for 50 yards and one touchdown on eight carries. Waters completed
8-of-22 attempts for 105 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted
three times. Junior linebacker Josh Daniels (Wanchese, N.C./Manteo) led
the Pride defense with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery. -- GENERALS -- WASHINGTON AND LEE FOOTBALL FALLS TO EMORY & HENRY,
35-17 EMORY, Va. -- Washington and Lee outgained Emory & Henry, 385-259,
but could not overcome several crucial errors on special teams in falling
to the Wasps, 35-17. Emory & Henry (5-4, 3-2) scored following two blocked punts and a
fumbled kickoff return. The Wasps opened the scoring in the first quarter
as sophomore punter Whit Whitfields (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Central) kick
was blocked and returned to the Generals 11-yard line. Three plays
later, quarterback Shannon Johnson scored on a 7-yard run to give the
Wasps a 7-0 lead. The Generals (4-5, 3-3) answered on the first play of the second quarter
as sophomore quarterback Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) found
junior tight end Jay Thomas (Houston, Texas/Kincaid) with a 12-yard scoring
strike to knot the score at 7-7. W &L assumed a 14-7 lead with 7:19 remaining in the third quarter
as senior running back Marc Watson (Marietta, Ga./Walton) scored on a
4-yard run. However, Emory & Henry would tie the game at 14-14 with
4:21 remaining in the third quarter as Willie Johnson returned another
blocked Whitfield punt eight yards for a touchdown. The Generals again responded as senior placekicker Brad Wiginton (Plano,
Texas/Plano Senior) booted a 22-yard field goal 44 seconds into the fourth
quarter to give W&L a 17-14 lead. The field goal was Wigintons
11th of the season, a new school record. The Wasps assumed a 21-17 lead with 10:15 remaining in the contest as
Johnson found wide receiver Brett Kickliter with a 14-yard touchdown pass.
Dean was then intercepted on the Generals next possession and E&H
running back Dan Hammonds scored on a 30-yard run on the next play to
put the Wasps up 28-17. The Generals fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Johnson
tossed his second touchdown pass to Kickliter, this time from 1-yard out
to provide the final margin. Washington and Lee was led by junior running back Chris Sullivan (San
Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights), who rushed for 162 yards on 32 carries.
He becomes just the fifth player in school history to rush for over 1,000
yards in a season (1,071). Watson carried 10 times for 103 yards and one
touchdown, while Dean completed 11-of-27 attempts for 104 yards and one
touchdown. Junior linebacker Matt Stavish (Sterling, Va./Park View) led
the defense with seven tackles. Emory & Henry was led by Johnson, who passed for 136 yards and two
scores and rushed for 29 yards and another touchdown. Linebacker Phil
Christian led the defense with 13 tackles and a sack. The Generals will conclude their season by hosting Greensboro College

34-28 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior tight end Van Williams (Smithfield, Va./Isle
of Wright Academy) caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback
Jason Lutz (Basye, Va./Stonewall Jackson) in overtime to lift fourth-ranked
Bridgewater to a 34-28 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC football action
at Wilson Field on Saturday afternoon. The play was the Eagles first offensive play in overtime after
stopping the Generals on their overtime possession. W&L senior placekicker
Brad Wigintons (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) 53-yard field goal attempt
was blocked by junior wide receiver Brian Ratliff (Timberville, Va./Broadway)
as the Generals failed to score on their possession. The Generals (4-4, 3-2) led the game 7-0 at the half after freshman wide
receiver Allen DeBard (Dallas, Texas/Warren T. White) hauled in a nine-yard
touchdown pass with 11:59 remaining in the second quarter. The Eagles scored on their first possession of the second half as senior
running back Davon Cruz (Glen Burnie, Md./Allegheny) found paydirt on
a one-yard run with 9:12 left in the third quarter. The Generals responded
on the ensuing kickoff as junior running back Chris Sullivan (San Antonio,
Texas/Alamo Heights) returned the kick 89 yards for a touchdown to give
W&L a 14-7 lead. The Eagles again tied the score (14-14) as senior defensive end Jeremy
Fox (New Kent, Va./Clover Hill) stripped the ball away from senior running
back Marc Watson (Marietta, Ga./Walton) and returned it 82 yards for a
touchdown with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter. Washington and Lee responded on its next possession as Watson scored
on a 28-yard run to give the Generals a 21-14 lead. However, the Eagles
scored on the very next offensive play as senior wide receiver Marcus
Richardson (South Boston, Va./Halifax) hauled in a 52-yard touchdown reception
from Lutz to knot the score at 21-21. Watson fumbled the ensuing kickoff
and Cruz scored on a six-yard run three plays later to give the Eagles
a 28-21 lead with 14:02 remaining in the fourth quarter. W&L tied the game at 28-28 with 4:58 remaining in regulation as Watson
scored on a 31-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Peter Dean
(Vienna, Va./James Madison). Washington and Lee was led by Sullivan, who rushed 27 times for 109 yards.
Watson carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards and caught four passes for
46 yards. Dean completed 13-of-27 attempts for 128 yards and two touchdowns.
Bahl led the defense with 14 tackles and a sack. Bridgewater was paced by Cruz, who rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns
on 30 carries. Richardson caught four passes for 107 yards, while Lutz
completed 9-of-21 attempts for 153 yards and two scores. Sophomore linebacker
Jermaine Taylor (Miramar, Fla./Miramar) led the defense with 13 tackles
and a sack. The Generals will return to action next Saturday as they travel to Emory

yards and a career-high three touchdowns to lead Washington and Lee to

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee held Catholic to just 19 yards rushing
in defeating the Cardinals, 18-12, in ODAC football action at Wilson Field
on Saturday afternoon. The Generals trailed Catholic 12-7 in the fourth quarter before CUA junior
Dennis Campbell (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) fumbled a kick return
on his own five yard line with 11:35 left to play. W&L senior linebacker
Jeff Bahl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) forced the fumble
and his brother, Andrew Bahl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day)
recovered the ball. W&L (2-3, 2-1) took advantage two plays later as senior running back
Marc Watson (Marietta, Ga./Walton) scored from one yard out. The touchdown
was the 29th in Watsons career, tying the school record for career
touchdowns set by Kevin Weaver (1983-86). The Generals attempt at a two-point
conversion was good and they led 15-12. W&L upped its lead to 18-12 with 7:08 remaining as senior placekicker
Brad Wiginton (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) nailed a 31-yard field goal. The Cardinals (1-4, 0-2) failed to convert on a 4th-and-10 play from
the W&L 30 yard line with 2:17 remaining in the game. However, CUA
got the ball back with 1:30 remaining and drove to the Generals
36 yard line before senior quarterback Derek McGee (Shamong, N.J./Cherokee)
was picked off by W&L sophomore safety Ted Maffitt (Houtson, Texas/Episcopal).
Maffitt returned the ball to the Catholic 11 yard line and the Generals
ran out the clock for their second ODAC victory of the season. The Generals were led by Watson, who caught 10 passes for 70 yards and
rushed seven times for 31 yards and a touchdown. Junior running back Chris
Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) rushed 31 times for 80 yards
and one touchdown, while sophomore quarterback Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James
Madison) completed 19-of-32 attempts for 154 yards. Jeff Bahl led the
W&L defense with 10 tackles and two sacks. Catholic was paced by McGee, who completed 22-of-53 attempts for 241
yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted twice. Freshman wide receiver
Nick Bublavi (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) caught seven passes for 90 yards
and one touchdown. Junior linebacker Jeff Tabery (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg)
recorded a game-high 12 tackles and assisted on a sack. The Generals will return to action next Saturday when they travel to

ASHLAND, Va. -- Randolph Macon quarterback Hunter Price connected with
wide receiver Derrick Jackson on a 19-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds
remaining to lift the Yellow Jackets to a 28-24 victory over Washington
and Lee on Saturday afternoon on Day Field. -- GENERALS -- CENTRE DEFEATS WASHINGTON AND LEE, 42-10, IN DIVISION III FOOTBALL LEXINGTON, Va. -- Centre College scored 21 first quarter points en route
to a 42-10 win over Washington and Lee in Division III football action
on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels (3-0) opened the scoring with 13:53 remaining in the opening
quarter as sophomore running back Jeremy Britt (Danville, Ky./Danville)
scored on a 44-yard touchdown run. Washington and Lee (1-2) responded on its next possession as senior placekicker
Brad Wiginton (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) booted a 33-yard field goal
with 10:50 left in the quarter. Centre answered right back as senior cornerback
Brian Britt (Danville, Va./Warren East) returned a punt 57 yards for a
touchdown to give the Colonels a 14-3 lead. Senior wide receiver Joe Guthrie
(Cambellsburg, Ky./Henry County) rounded out the first quarter scoring
as he scored on a 16-yard reception with 3:57 remaining in the quarter. Jeremy Britt scored his second towndown of the day on a 6-yard run with
6:24 left in the third quarter and senior running back Travis Bell (Shelbyville,
Ky./Eminence) extended the Centre lead to 35-3 with a 15-yard touchdown
run with 1:40 remaining in the quarter. Washington and Lee capped the scoring as junior tight end Jay Thomas
(Houston, Texas/Kincaid) hauled in a 34-yard touchdown reception from
sophomore quarterback Sean McGarvey (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) with
12:12 remaining in the game. Jeremy Britt led the Centre attack with 150 yards and two touchdowns
on 15 carries. Senior quarterback Drew Mildren (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady)
completed 15-of-23 attempts for 190 yards and two touchdowns, while Guthrie
caught five passes for 109 yards and two scores. Sophomore defensive back
John Ortega (Prestonburg, Ky./Prestonburg) led the Colonel defense with
nine tackles. Washington and Lee was led by junior running back Chris Sullivan (San
Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights), who collected 74 yards on 15 carries, while
Thomas caught two passes for 43 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore Peter
Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) completed just 5-of-20 attempts for 52
