JAMES FINISHES TIED FOR 34TH AT NCAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Nathaniel James (Keller,
Texas/Keller) finished tied for 34th out of 120 golfers at the NCAA Division III Golf Championships hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University at the Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.

James fired a final round 78 to finish with an 80-78-72-78--308 (+24). Stephen Goodridge of the University of Rochester was the individual medalist with a final score of 77-71-68-73--289 (+5).

Nebraska Wesleyan won the team title, shooting a score of 1193 (+57).

James is currently tied for 41st out of 120 golfers with a three-day score of 80-78-72--230 (+17). Stephen Goodridge of the University of Rochester currently leads the tournament with a score of 77-71-68--216 (+3).

James fired an opening round 80 and trails the leader, Nathan Logan of La Verne by eight strokes. Logan shot a one over par 72.

Fellow ODAC member Guilford College leads the team portion following the first day by shooting a +15 score of 299.

Action continues tomorrow morning with the second round of the four-round tournament.

W&L GOLF FINISHES AS ODAC RUNNER-UP

AMHERST, Va. -- The Washington and Lee Golf team finished second out of eight teams at the ODAC Championships held on Sunday and Monday at the Poplar Grove Golf Course in Amherst, Va.

The Generals fired a 306-302--608 and finished 12 strokes behind 2005 National Champion Guilford College.

Freshman Beau Allen (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) carded a 74-74--148 to finish as the overall medalist. Sophomore Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) finished tied for seventh with a 79-72--151, junior Anthony Zappin (Huntington, W.Va./St. Joseph Central) was tied for 10th with a 75-79--154, sophomore Steven Spivey (Martinsville, Va./Martinsville) finished tied for 14th with a 78-79--157 and junior Matt Nickles (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) placed in a tie for 21st with an 84-77--161.

James was named the ODAC Player of the Year, Allen was tabbed the Co-Rookie of the Year along with Ralston King of Randolph-Macon, and Zappin was selected the ODAC Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. James was also a First Team All-ODAC choice, while Allen earned Second Team All-ODAC laurels and ODAC All-Tournament team honors.
