W&L MENS BASKETBALL FALLS TO BRIDGEWATER,
72-61
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Bridgewater College used a 13-0 run late in the first
half to defeat Washington and Lee, 72-61 in ODAC mens basketball
action on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center. The Eagles (13-12, 7-11) trailed 20-19 with 8:09 remaining in the first
stanza, but used three triples and a pair of layups to assume a 33-19
edge with 4:45 remaining. The Generals chipped away and cut the Bridgewater
lead to nine points at 66-57 with 3:34 remaining, but could get no closer. W&L was led by senior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St.
Christophers), who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Freshman forward Alex White (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) tallied 11 points,
while sophomore forward Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) added
nine points and five boards. Bridgewater was paced by junior guard Ricky Easterlings (Baltimore,
Md./Dundalk) 15 points. He scored his 1,000th career point during the
game and now claims 1,004 points. Senior forward Ryan Lambert (Petersburg,
W.Va./Petersburg) contributed 14 points and five boards in the winning
effort. The Eagles hit 22-of-26 free throws in the game, compared to the Generals
5-of-7 performance at the stripe. Washington and Lee now ends its season at 7-18 overall, 5-13 in the
ODAC. The Generals fell short of the eighth and final seed for the ODAC

79-44 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Guilford College won for the ninth time in its last
10 games with a 79-44 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC mens
basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center. The Quakers (15-8, 10-5) led by just seven points (30-23) with 2:05
remaining in the first half, but closed the stanza with an 8-0 run to
assume a 38-23 halftime advantage. Guilford then began the second half
with a 26-9 run to hand the Generals their worst home loss since the
1993-94 season. W&L (6-17, 4-12), which shot just 28.6 percent for the game, including
20.7 percent in the second half, was led by freshman guard Coleman Lyons
(Atlanta, Ga./Phillips Academy), who scored 15 points and grabbed five
rebounds. Sophomore forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) added
10 points and six rebounds. Guilford was led by senior forward Jevon Clarke (Apex, N.C./Southeast
Raleigh), who totaled 15 points and five boards. Clarke eclipsed the
1,000 career-point mark in the first half, becoming the 20th Quaker
to do so. He now has 1,004 points. Sophomore forward Jamel Taylor (Palm
Bay, Fla./Brevard Christian) notched 12 points and 10 rebounds, while

49-44 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood)
scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Washington
and Lee to a 49-44 win over Lynchburg in ODAC mens basketball
action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center. The Generals (6-16, 4-11) built a 27-20 halftime advantage and extended
their lead to as many as 11 points on three occasions during the second
stanza. W&L led 43-32 with 5:38 remaining in the game, but went
cold and didnt score again until Haliktis hit 1-of-2 free throws
with 1:24 remaining to give the Generals a 44-40 advantage. Lynchburg (8-14, 5-10), which forced 28 W&L turnovers, continued
to chip away at the lead and cut it to one-point at 45-44 with 54 seconds
remaining on a pair of foul shots by freshman guard Pete Manos (Davie,
Fla./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)). However, senior guard Michael Denbow (Louisville,
Ky./St. Xavier) and Halkitis combined to hit four foul shots in the

effort with eight points. Senior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St.

basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center. Just 13 seconds earlier, the Generals held the ball with a 48-46 lead,
but freshman guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood)
could not convert a one-and-one at the foul line setting up Reasbecks
heroics. W&L (5-15, 3-10) shot 52.0 percent (13-25) in the first half en
route to a 31-24 halftime lead. However, the Generals went cold in the
second half, shooting just 29.6 percent (8-27) in the second stanza
and scoring just six points in the final 12 minutes of the contest. W&L was led by Halkitis, who tallied 16 points. Sophomore forward
Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) added 13 points on 6-of-11
shooting from the floor. Emory & Henry (11-9, 6-7) was paced by senior guard Justin Calls

ROANOKE, 52-43 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee ended a string of 19 consecutive
losses to Roanoke with a 52-43 win over the Maroons on Sunday evening
at the Warner Center. The Generals (5-14, 3-9) ended the streak with defense, allowing the
Maroons their lowest offensive output since W&L defeated Roanoke,
44-42, on Jan. 16, 1986. Roanoke shot just 28.3 percent (15-53) for
the game. The first half featured five ties and six lead changes as the teams
went to the half tied at 22-22. Roanoke began the second stanza with
a quick 7-0 run to assume a 29-22 lead with 18:06 remaining. However,
after that point, the Generals went on a 23-8 run to build an eight-point
lead (45-37) with 3:47 left. The Maroons closed to within two points (45-43) on a three-pointer
by senior forward Jason Graffam (Vienna, Va./Marshall) with 1:04 remaining,
but a three-pointer by W&L junior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton,
Va./Fauquier) with 33 seconds remaining sealed the win. W&L hit
all four of its free throws in the final 20 seconds and walked away

basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center. The Generals (4-14) used a 16-2 run late in the first half to push
a 23-16 lead with 6:33 remaining to a 39-19 advantage with 2:04 to play
in leading 41-25 at the break. The Cougars (0-15) started the second half with a 9-2 run to cut the
W&L lead to seven points (43-36) with 15:31 remaining, but could
get no closer despite the Generals hitting just 18-of-34 (.529) foul
shots for the game. Freshman guard Coleman Lyons (Atlanta, Ga./Phillips Academy) and senior

TO RANDOLPH-MACON LEXINGTON, Va. -- Fourth-ranked Randolph-Macon broke a 48-48 tie on
a pair of free throws by senior forward Kurt Bergmann (Fallsington,
Pa./Pennsbury) with 8:29 remaining and held the lead the rest of the
way in defeating Washington and Lee, 66-61, in ODAC mens basketball
action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center. Washington and Lee hung close with the Yellow Jackets, never trailing
by more than four points in the first half. Macon extended to a six-point
advantage (32-26) in the opening minutes of the second stanza, but the
Generals climbed back to take a one-point lead (40-39) on a four-point
play by freshman guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood)
with 13:11 remaining. The game would be tied four times in the next
five minutes before the Yellow Jackets assumed a seven-point lead (60-53)
with 42 seconds remaining. The Generals would crawl back to 62-59 with

the Warner Center. W&L (3-13, 2-8) led 31-28 at the break, but the Marlins 9-0
run gave them an eight-point lead (46-38) with 10:55 remaining in the
game. VWC extended its advantage to 55-44 with 5:34 remaining before
the Generals mounted a charge late. A three-pointer by freshman guard
Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) cut the Marlins
lead to 57-54 with 1:52 left. However, W&L would miss two layups
in the final minute and a pair of free throws by freshman forward Brandon
Adair (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) iced the game for Virginia
Wesleyan. W&L was led by Halkitis, who tallied a game-high 19 points on
6-of-9 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore forward David

& HENRY, 76-66 EMORY, Va. -- Emory & Henry used a 17-0 second-half run to defeat
Washington and Lee, 76-66, on Wednesday evening in ODAC mens basketball
action. A 12-0 run by the Generals (3-12, 2-7) midway through the first half
gave W&L a 21-12 lead with 9:49 remaining in the opening stanza.
Sophomore forward Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) accounted
for all 12 points on four straight three-pointers. W&L maintained
the lead and entered the break with a 36-26 advantage after hitting
10-of-14 three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes. However, with the Generals leading 49-38 at the 11:40 mark of the
second half, the Wasps (8-7, 4-5) went on their 17-point run over the
next 5:25 to assume a 55-49 lead which they would not relinquish. Landes led W&L with a career-high 19 points on 5-of-5 shooting
from behind the three-point arc. Freshman guard Chris Halkitis (New

Warner Center. The Generals (3-11, 2-6) managed just two field goals in the opening
10 minutes of the game, but recovered to cut their deficit to 12 points
(36-24) at the half. W&L opened the second half on a 16-6 run to cut the lead to two
points (42-40) with 13:31 to play, but the Tigers methodically built
the lead back to as many as 18 points in the final two minutes of the
game. The Generals were paced by junior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier),
who totaled 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Freshman guard Chris Halkitis
(New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) added nine points, seven rebounds

with seven three pointers, but it wouldnt be enough as the Generals
fell to Lynchburg, 68-65, on Saturday evening. -- GENERALS -- W&L MENS BASKETBALL DEFEATS EASTERN MENNONITE,
93-84 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee freshman guard Chris Halkitis
(New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) tallied a career-high 26 points and
grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to lead the Generals past Eastern
Mennonite, 93-84, in ODAC mens basketball action on Wednesday
evening at the Warner Center. W&L (3-9, 2-4) built a 41-27 halftime lead and extended the lead
to 18 points (77-59) with 5:26 remaining in the game. However, the Royals
(3-9, 1-5) began to foul, sending the Generals to the line 24 times
in the final 5:05 in an attempt to make a comeback. The strategy worked
as EMU cut the W&L lead to five points (87-82) with 28 seconds remaining,
but the Generals hit six straight charity tosses in the last 26 seconds
for the nine-point win. In all, there were 58 fouls called in the contest, 29 on each team.
W&L hit 24-of-38 charity tosses, including each of its final 10.
The Royals hit 22-of-35 foul shots in the game. Halkitis recorded his career-high total by hitting 5-of-7 three-point attempts and 9-of-14 free throws. Junior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) notched a season-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. advantage into halftime and extended its lead in the second half as

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens basketball team
recovered from a 30-19 halftime deficit to put a scare into 17th-ranked
Trinity (Conn.) College, falling 49-48 to the Bantams on Tuesday evening
at the Warner Center. The Generals (2-6) shot just 24.1 percent (7-29) in the first stanza,
but recovered to shoot 43.5 percent (10-23) in the second half. Down 37-24 with 14:04 remaining in the game, W&L went on a 12-1
run over the next 4:37 to pull within one point (39-38) with 9:27 to
play. Trinity (8-0) would push back to a five-point advantage at 47-42
with 3:45 remaining, but the Generals would again cut to a one-point
contest on a layup by sophomore forward Ryan Flynn (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral)
with 49 seconds remaining. Following a missed three-pointer by Trinity senior guard Shaun Smyth
(Manchester, Conn./Bolton) with 13 seconds left, W&L freshman point
guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) got an open look
from behind the arc but could not hit. Flynn grabbed the rebound, but
his five-footer at the buzzer fell short and Trinity walked away with
the win. Halkitis led the Generals with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three-point
range. His only miss of the second half occurred on the final possession.

afternoon at the Warner Center. The Generals (2-4) took a 66-64 lead with 2:46 remaining in the game
as sophomore forward Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) closed
a 15-5 W&L run with a pair of free throws. After the Landes charity
tosses, Chowan junior guard Roland Brown (Norfolk, Va./Ryan Academy)
nailed a three-pointer with 2:03 remaining in the game to give the Braves
the lead for good. Washington and Lee was led by freshman guard Coleman Lyons (Atlanta,
Ga./Phillips Academy), who tallied a career-high 16 points on 5-of-9
shooting from the floor. He was joined in double-figures by freshman

62-44 CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Citadel used a 10-0 run
to start the game and held Washington and Lee to just 13 points in the
second half as the Bulldogs defeated the Generals, 62-44, in mens
basketball action on Tuesday evening. -- GENERALS -- W&L DROPS TWO CONTESTS IN FRANKLIN & MARSHALL
TOURNAMENT LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee basketball team dropped both
of its games in the season-opening Sponaugle Tournament at Franklin
& Marshall College on Friday and Saturday. The Generals (0-2) opened the tournament against 19th-ranked F&M,
falling to the Diplomats by a score of 63-43. Franklin & Marshall
began the game on a 16-5 run over the opening six minutes and cruised
to a 34-21 halftime advantage in taking the 20-point victory. W&L was paced by freshman guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey,
Fla./Ridgewood), who tallied 12 points and four rebounds. Junior guard
Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) added 10 points. F&M was led by guard Duran Searles, who notched 15 points on 5-of-6
shooting from the floor. Forward Bobby Lynch scored 12 points, while
guard Jackiem Wright totaled 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. W&L then faced 14th-ranked Catholic in the consolation round,
bowing to the Cardinals, 72-61. The Generals trailed by just four points
at halftime and climbed to within three points (56-53) with 3:10 remaining.
However, a three-pointer by CUA forward William Morley and solid free
throw shooting down the stretch iced the game for the Cardinals. Sophomore forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) led four Generals
in double-figures with 13 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward
Matt Lawless (Williamsburg, Va./Bishop OConnell) and sophomore
guard Phil Landes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mariemont) registered 12 points
each, while senior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St. Christophers)
added 10 points. Morley led Catholic (1-1) with 18 points and six rebounds. Franklin & Marshall (2-0) won the tournament with a 90-54 win over
Guilford in the championship game. Will was named to the all-tournament
team. Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to Division
