W&L MEN'S BASKETBALL DOWNED BY GUILFORD, 89-71
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford closed out the first half
on a 13-3 run to take a 49-31 halftime lead en route to an 89-71 win
over Washington and Lee in ODAC mens basketball action on Tuesday
night in Greensboro, N.C. The Quakers (14-11, 9-9) led 24-19 with 8:54 remaining
in the first half and then used an 8-0 run to extend to a 32-19 advantage.
The Generals pulled to within eight points at 36-28 with 3:30 left,
but then Guilford went on the aforementioned 13-3 spurt to held into
halftime with an 18-point advantage. The Quakers would maintain their
double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. W&L was 24-for-56 (.429) from the field and 19-for-24
(.792) from the free throw line, but committed 23 turnovers. Guilford
shot 37-for-75 (.493) from the floor and 9-for-12 (.750) from the charity
stripe. The Generals were led by freshman forward Greg Bienemann
(Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed
five rebounds. Sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood)
tallied 14 points and a team-high four assists, while sophomore guard
Chris Davis (Birmingham, Ala./Altamont School) notched a career-high
10 points. Freshman center Mason Herman (Martinsburg, W.Va./St. Maria
Goretti) pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds. Guilford received a game-high 19 points from junior forward
Genaro Lawhorn, while sophomore guard Jordan Snipes chipped in 14 points. W&L finishes the season with a 2-23 overall record
and an 0-18 mark in the ODAC. -- GENERALS -- W&L MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO EASTERN MENNONITE, 90-76 HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Sophomore guard Jason Sager scored
a game-high 23 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to help
lead Eastern Mennonite to a 90-76 victory over Washington and Lee in
ODAC mens basketball action on Saturday night in Harrisonburg,
Va. The Generals (2-22, 0-17) led 10-9 with 15:30 remaining
in the first half, but the Royals (12-11, 8-9) went on a 25-10 run to
take a 34-20 lead with 4:40 left in the opening half. EMU would go into
halftime with a 38-28 advantage and maintain its double-digit lead throughout
the second half. W&L was 29-for-64 (.453) from the field, but committed
16 turnovers. The Royals were 28-of-58 (.483) from the floor and outscored
the Generals 27-15 at the free throw line. The Generals were led by freshman forward Greg Bienemann
(Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed
six rebounds. Freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston
Catholic) scored a career-high 18 points and snatched a team-high eight
rebounds. Sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood)
chipped in 13 points and dished out a team-high four assists. Sager was complemented by freshman guard Brad Parkes,
who tallied 17 points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Korey Whiting
added 15 points and six rebounds. W&L finishes the regular season at Guilford on Tuesday
evening. The game starts at 7:00 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L MENS BASKETBALL FALLS TO EMORY & HENRY, 87-78 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee committed 35 turnovers
and shot just 56.8 percent (21-of-37) from the foul line in falling
to Emory & Henry, 87-78, in ODAC mens basketball action on
Wednesday evening at the Warner Center. The Generals (2-21, 0-16) trailed by as many as 13 points
(35-22) in the first half, but used a 20-0 run over both halves to assume
a 56-45 lead with 14:40 remaining in the game. From there, the Wasps
slowly chipped away the W&L advantage until taking the lead for
good at 71-70 on a jumper by sophomore guard Korey Townsend (South Boston,
Va./Halifax County) with 5:59 remaining in the game. Three players from each team fouled out as a total of
56 fouls were whistled on the two teams. W&L was led by senior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton,
Va./Fauquier), who tallied 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Junior forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) notched 13 points and
a career-high 13 rebounds, while freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston,
W.Va./Charleston Catholic) posted 13 points and four steals. Sophomore
guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fa./Ridgewood) chipped in with
12 points. Emory & Henry (9-14, 6-10) was paced by Townsend,
who scored 24 points and was 11-of-14 from the charity stripe. Freshman

travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm game. -- GENERALS -- W&L MENS BASKETBALL DEFEATED BY LYNCHBURG, 81-72 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Lynchburg College hit 35-of-44 free
throws in defeating Washington and Lee, 81-72, in ODAC mens basketball
action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center. The Hornets (10-12, 7-8) closed the first half on a 10-2
run to assume a nine-point lead (34-25) at the break. W&L chipped
away at the lead, cutting the deficit to just three points (56-53) with
8:32 remaining, but the Hornets again pulled away, going on a 12-2 run
to post a 68-55 lead with just 3:23 remaining. LC shot 30 of its 44
foul shots in the second half. The Generals (2-20, 0-15) shot 26-of-58 (.448) from the
floor, but could not overcome a 35-16 point differential at the foul
line. W&L was led by freshman forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham), who tallied 15 points and five rebounds. Senior guard
Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier), sophomore guard Chris Halkitis
(New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) and freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston,
W.Va./Charleston Catholic) each notched 14 points. Lynchburg was paced by senior forward Ryan Pehanik (Charlottesville,

hosts Emory & Henry for a 7:00 pm contest. -- GENERALS -- W&L MENS BASKETBALL FALLS TO HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, 81-75 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee posted a 46-37 halftime
lead, but could not hold on as Hampden-Sydney defeated the Generals,
81-75, in ODAC mens basketball action on Saturday afternoon at
the Warner Center. W&L shot 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the field in
the opening half and extended its lead to 11 points as freshman forward
Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) made a jumper to
begin the second stanza. However, the Tigers outscored the Generals
14-2 over the next 3:22 to take a 51-50 lead. Hampden-Sydney pushed out to a 62-56 lead with 10:10
remaining, but W&L fought back to tie the game at 64-64 with 7:02
remaining in the game. From there, H-SC went on a 9-2 run to assume
a 73-66 lead with 5:14 remaining and would hold on for the win. The Tigers (14-7, 9-5) outscored W&L 25-11 at the
foul line and held a 31-23 edge on the boards. The Generals shot just
38.5 percent in the second half, while the Tigers hit 58.3 percent of
their shots in the second stanza and 55.6 percent for the game. The Generals (2-19, 0-14) were led by sophomore guard
Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood), who tallied 19 points.

Va./Riverheads) notched career-highs in points (14), rebounds (16) and
steals (5) to lift Roanoke to a 64-60 win over Washington and Lee in
ODAC mens basketball action on Saturday evening at the Warner
Center. The Maroons (11-8, 5-7) held a slim 31-29 lead at the
break, but the Generals hit each of their first seven shots from the
field in the second half to open a 44-40 lead with 13:56 left to play.
The two teams traded the lead back-and-forth until Roanoke took the
lead for good at 58-57 on a layup by senior center Kevinn Hunter (Dale
City, Va./Gar-Field) with 3:45 remaining. W&L sliced the lead to 61-60 on a three-pointer by
sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fa./Ridgewood) with
2:49 left and RC freshman guard Ben Shrader (Tazewell, Va./Mercer Christian)
made it 62-60 with a free throw at the 2:00 mark. The Generals had a
chance to tie with four seconds remaining, but freshman guard John Mumpers
(Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) layup attempt was short and LaPorte
snatched the rebound and was fouled. He hit both free throws to clinch
the victory. W&L (2-18, 0-13) was paced by senior guard Mike Stuart
(Warrenton, Va./Fauquier), who scored 11 points. Halkitis and junior
forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) both tallied 10 points and
five rebounds. Hunter notched 19 points and eight rebounds for Roanoke.

to the final buzzer and led by as many as 19 points (31-12) with 2:12
remaining in the first half. They went into halftime with a 35-20 lead. The Generals (2-16, 0-11) pulled to within 12 points
at 39-27 with 16:04 left in the second half, but R-MC went on a 17-5
run over the next 7:43 to take a 56-32 advantage with 8:21 remaining. W&L shot just 27.8 percent (15-for-54) from the field
and was outrebounded 43-30. The Generals were led by junior forward David Will (Fairfax,
Va./Fairfax), who scored a team-high nine points and pulled down a team-best

Virginia Wesleyan to a 63-53 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC mens
basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center. The Marlins (13-4, 7-4) led 36-24 at the break, but saw
the Generals slice the advantage to just five points (39-34) with 14
minutes remaining in the game. VWC responded with a 9-0 spurt over the
next 3:52 to go up 48-34 with 10:08 left. W&L slowly chipped away
at the lead, cutting it to 55-50 at the 1:53 mark, but the Marlins sealed
the game at the foul line in the final minute. Virginia Wesleyan held a 40-22 advantage in rebounding,
including grabbing 15 offensive rebounds. W&L (2-15, 0-10) placed four players in double figures

night in Bridgewater, Va. The Eagles (13-4, 8-2) took a 33-22 lead into halftime
and opened up the second half on 10-0 run to take a 21-point lead (43-22)
with 15:33 left. The Generals (2-14, 0-9) responded with 20-6 run to
cut the deficit to 49-42 with 8:56 remaining in the game. However, Bridgewater
then went on the aforementioned 18-0 spurt to take a 67-42 advantage
with 5:33 remaining and wouldnt be challenged again. W&L was just 18-for-56 (.321) from the field, while

Va. With the game tied at 5-5 with 17:01 left in the first
half, the Hornets (8-7, 5-3) went on a 16-0 run over the next 4:31 to
take a 21-5 lead, which they wouldnt relinquish for the remainder
of the game. The Generals (2-12, 0-7) were 17-for-50 (.340) from the
field, including just 8-for-29 (.276) in the second half. Lynchburg
was 27-for-63 (.429) from the floor and held a 45-34 advantage in rebounds. W&L was led by freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston,

Va./James Wood) scored a game-high 26 points to lead Eastern Mennonite
to a 69-61 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC mens basketball
action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center. The Generals (2-11, 0-6) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the
opening 5:08 of the game as EMU missed each of its first 12 shots from
the field. However, the Royals rebounded to take a 12-11 lead with 8:15
remaining in the half and held a 30-25 advantage at the break. EMU (8-4, 5-2) extended to a double-digit lead several
times in the opening nine minutes of the second stanza, but a 16-5 W&L
run midway through the half knotted the game at 51-51 with 8:10 remaining
in the game. From there, the two teams went back-and-forth until the
Royals added to a 57-56 lead by closing out the game on a 13-5 run in
the final 3:35. W&L held a 53-43 advantage on the boards, but could
not overcome a 29-of-38 performance from the foul line by Eastern Mennonite. W&L was led by freshman forwards Greg Bienemann (Chatham,

travels to Lynchburg College for a 3:00 pm contest. -- GENERALS -- W&L MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO ROANOKE, 71-59 SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke College went on a 24-7 run over
the final 8:32 to defeat Washington and Lee, 71-59, in ODAC mens
basketball action on Saturday night in Salem, Va. The Generals (2-10, 0-5) trailed 24-23 with 4:42 remaining
in the first half, but went on a 12-2 run to head into halftime with
a 35-26 lead. W&L led throughout most of the second stanza and were
up 52-47 with 8:32 remaining but with 7:21 left, Roanoke (7-5, 1-4)
retook the lead in the midst of its 24-7 game-ending spurt. W&L was 19-for-54 (.352) from the field, including
just 6-for-25 (.240) in the second half, and committed 17 turnovers.
The Maroons ripped the nets at a 51 percent clip (25-for-49) and were
7-for-14 from three-point range, including 5-for-8 in the second half.

Washington and Lee to a 79-74 win over Washington College in the championship
game of the W&L Tournament on Monday evening at the Warner Center. Halkitis took home tournament MVP honors after hitting
9-of-18 shots from the field and nailing six straight foul shots in
the final 2:34 to clinch the win. The Generals (2-9) trailed by as many as seven points
(24-17) with 6:23 remaining in the first half, but ended the half on
a 15-8 run to assume a 37-36 lead at the break. W&L then used a
17-6 run midway through the second stanza to post a 56-45 lead with
12:26 remaining. The Shoremen (4-5) battled back to tie the game at 61-61
with 5:34 left in the game, but Halkitis scored eight points down the
stretch to lift the Generals to the win. Senior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) scored
a season-high 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range, while
freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic)
was named to the all-tournament team after totaling 12 points, nine

Del./Milford), who tallied 20 points. Junior guard Kyle Stem (Lincoln

Alexander (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) notched 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore forward Joe Breslin (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) was
named to the all-tournament team after posting 14 points and eight boards. In the consolation game, Piedmont defeated Marymount,
84-70. The Lions opened the game on a 36-13 run and never looked back
in improving to 5-6 on the season. Junior guard David Adcock (Flowery Branch, Ga./Rabun County)
registered a game-high 24 points, while freshman forward Jake Baldwin
(Cumming, Ga./South Forsyth) scored 11 points and was named to the all-tournament
team. For Marymount (6-5), senior forward Ed Carrai (Newville,
Pa./Big Spring) led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds, and junior
guard Rick Palmer (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) added 15 points and four

TOURNAMENT LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens basketball
team earned its first win of the season with a 79-65 victory over Piedmont
in the opening round of the W&L Tournament on Sunday evening at
the Warner Center. In the opening game, Washington College defeated
Marymount, 81-79, in overtime. The Generals used a 13-0 run early in the game to assume
a commanding 40-25 lead at the break. The lead grew to as many as 22
points (51-29) with 15:04 remaining in the game as the Generals won
going away. W&L (1-9) shot a season-high 53.4 percent from the
floor and held a 44-28 advantage on the boards. Freshman forward Greg
Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led the way with a career-high 27
points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed seven rebounds
and dished off three assists. Freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston,
W.Va./Charleston Catholic) posted 11 points and seven rebounds, while
sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) chipped

The game featured 12 ties and 16 lead changes until the
Quakers (3-3, 1-2) assumed the control on a three-pointer by freshman

The game remained within reach for W&L until Guilford hit 17-of-19
free throw attempts in the final 5:05 of the game to pull away. Guilford

second half lead but could not hold on, as the Generals dropped a 63-58
decision at Randolph-Macon in ODAC mens basketball action on Saturday
afternoon. The Generals (0-7, 0-2) led by as many as 10 points (24-14)
in the first half and claimed a 36-32 halftime edge. The lead pushed
back to eight points at 43-35 with 16:46 remaining, but the Yellow Jackets

Eagles to a 90-77 win over Washington and Lee at the Warner Center on
Saturday afternoon. The Eagles (3-0) carried a 37-32 lead into the halftime
break, but extended their advantage to 12 points (49-37) with 16:30
remaining as junior forward Jeff Hall (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson)
scored 11 of the teams first 12 points in the second half. The Generals (0-4) sliced the Emory lead to just five
points twice in the second half, but could get no closer as Fawsett

close out the game to defeat Washington and Lee, 73-62, in mens
basketball action on Tuesday night in Charleston, S.C. The Generals (0-3) led 49-47 with 8:41 remaining in the
game but the Bulldogs (2-0) went on a 10-2 spurt to take a 10 point
lead at 61-51 with 3:52 left. Washington and Lee pulled to within three
at 63-60 with 1:53 remaining but The Citadel went on the aforementioned
10-2 spurt to win 73-62. Washington and Lee hit 45% (13-for-29) of its shots from
the field in the second half to stay close to the Bulldogs, but The
Citadel went 16-for-25 from the free throw line in the second half while
the Generals were just 2-for-2. Washington and Lee was led by sophomore guard Chris Halkitis
(New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood), who scored a team-high 13 points
while junior forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) had 12 points

team had four players score in double figures but it wasnt enough
as they lost 86-73 to SUNY New Paltz in the consolation game of the
NYU Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon in New York, N.Y. The Hawks (1-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead just over three
minutes into the contest and they never let the Generals get into the
game as they led from start to finish. Washington and Lee (0-2) got to within 9-6 at 13:41 on
a layup by freshman forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) but
New Paltz responded with an 8-0 spurt to take their first double digit
lead at 17-6. The Generals trailed 32-20 with 5:20 remaining in the first half but went on an 21-11 surge to close within two points at 43-41 at the 16:44 mark of the second half but they werent able to get any closer. Senior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) led
the Generals with 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting and Bienemann, who was
named to the all-tournament team, finished with 14 points and six rebounds.

up its 2004-05 season with an 85-61 loss to Nazareth in the opening round
of the NYU Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon in New York, N.Y. The Generals (0-1) jumped out to a 6-2 lead with 2:58 gone-by on a three-point
play by sophomore forward Alex White (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and a three-pointer
by sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood). The
Golden Flyers (1-0) responded with a 10-4 run to take a 12-10 advantage
at the 13:40 mark and they wouldnt relinquish the lead for the rest
of the game. Nazareth freshman Ryan McAdam scored 21 points in the first half as the
Golden Flyers went into halftime with a 45-24 advantage. W&L was just 10-for-30 (.333) from the field in the first half while
Nazareth shot 54 % (15-for-28) in the first stanza. The Golden Flyers continued their hot shooting in the second half as
they made 13 of 22 shots and they didnt allow the Generals to get
within 19 points in the second stanza. Freshman forwards Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charlestown Catholic)
and Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) both scored in double figures
for the Generals. Kusimo finished with 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting and
a game-high nine rebounds while Bienemann notched 13 points. McAdam finished with a game-high 29 points and eight rebounds while senior
