W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE IN NCAA REGIONALS FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
cross country teams were in action at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional
on Saturday at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. The mens
squad finished fifth of 23 teams with 160 points, while the women placed
seventh of 27 teams with 190 points. Leading the way on the mens side was sophomore Wes Bell (Dalton,
Ga./McCallie School), who finished ninth overall (26:16.09). Junior Andy
Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) was the second Generals runner
across the line in 12th place with a time of 26:20.05, while sophomore
Steve Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) placed 25th overall, finishing
in 26:43.02. For the women, senior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) placed
16th overall, crossing the tape in 23:28.01. Freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee,
Fla./MaClay School) was 28th with a time of 23:56.07, and freshman Betsy
Frayers (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) time of 24:36.06
was good for 43rd. Bell, Schorr, Chambers and Duncan each earned All-Region accolades for their top 25 finishes. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS IN ACTION AT ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens cross
country teams competed in the ODAC Championships on Saturday morning at
Roanoke College. The men finished second of eight teams, while the women
were second of six teams. Junior Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) paced the mens squad
by finishing third overall with a time of 26:38.56. Sophomore Wes Bell
(Dalton, Ga./McCallie School) finished seventh with a time of 26:58.37,
while sophomore Steve Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) placed
15th overall with a time of 27:49.00. For the women, senior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) placed
third overall, crossing the tape in 23:53.74. Freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee,
Fla./MaClay School) placed eighth with a time of 24:32.50, while freshman
Megan Ward (Lindsay, Texas/Lindsay) produced a time of 24:49.30, finishing
11th. Schorr, Bell, Duncan, Drake and Ward all earn All-ODAC honors with their
finishes in the competition. For Duncan, it was her fourth-straight top
three finish at the conference championships. Both squads will be in action again on Nov. 16 at the NCAA South/Southeast
Regionals held at Mary Washington College. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS IN ACTION AT DeSALES INVITATIONAL ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
cross country teams competed in the DeSales University Invitational on
Saturday morning. The mens team placed 10th of 40 teams, while the
womens team finished 13th of 38 teams. The W&L men were paced by sophomore Steven Chambers (Christiana,
Pa./Octorara Area), who placed 40th out of 275 runners with a career-best
time of 27:23.52. Junior Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) finished
45th with a time of 27:31.60, while sophomore Wes Bell (Dalton, Ga./McCallie
School) crossed the tape in 28:04.28, finishing 67th. The W&L women were led by freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee, Fla./MaClay
School), who also produced a career-best time (20:09.55), placing 25th
of 278 runners. Senior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) placed
30th with a time of 20:15.76, while freshman Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids,
Mich./East Grand Rapids) placed 79th with a time of 21:07.17. Both the W&L mens and womens cross country teams will
be in action again on Nov. 2 as they compete in the ODAC Championships
at Roanoke College. The mens race begins at 11:00 am and the women
will follow at 12:00 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS IN ACTION AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
cross country teams competed in the Virginia State Division II-III meet
on Saturday morning at Bridgewater College. The mens team placed
second of nine teams, while the womens team finished third of 10
teams. The W&L men were paced by sophomore Steven Chambers (Christiana,
Pa./Octorara Area), who placed fourth overall with a time of 27:51.99.
Junior Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) finished sixth with a time
of 28:11.32, while sophomore Wes Bell (Dalton, Ga./McCallie School) crossed
the tape in 29:04.81, finishing 12th. The W&L women were led by freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee, Fla./MaClay
School) who crossed the tape in 24:59.56, placing seventh overall. Freshman
Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) placed 18th (26:17.44),
while senior Jennifer Fallon (Boerne, Texas/Boerne) finished 21st with
a time of 26:32.59. Both the W&L mens and womens cross country teams will
be in action again next Saturday as they compete in the DeSales Invitational. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS IN ACTION AT DICKINSON
INVITATIONAL CARLISLE, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens cross
country teams competed in the Dickinson Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The teams both ran in a 4K race and the women also competed in a 6K race,
while the men competed in an 8K race. The scores from both races were
combined for an overall team finish. The womens squad placed 6th
of 20 teams, while the men were 9th of 21 squads. In the 4K race, the W&L women were led by freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee,
Fla./MaClay School) who crossed the tape in 16:22.12, placing 15th overall.
Senior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) placed 19th with a time
of 16:37.32. In the mens 8K race, junior Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood)
placed 20th overall with a time of 28:08.03. Sophomore Wes Bell (Dalton,
Ga./McCallie School) crossed the tape in 28:36.89, placing 32nd overall. In the mens 4K race, sophomore Steven Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara
Area) placed 16th overall with a time of 13:16.22, while senior David
Hicks (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) placed 42nd overall (13:51.40). The Generals mens and womens squads will be in action
again next Saturday as they compete in the Virginia State Division II-III
meet at Bridgewater College. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS IN ACTION AT ROANOKE INVITATIONAL SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
cross country teams competed Saturday at the Roanoke Invitational in Salem,
Va. The W&L women collected 165 points to finish 7th of 12 teams,
while the men finished 8th out of 12 teams with 172 points. In the womens race, the Generals top runner
was senior Jen Fallon (Boerne, Texas/Boerne), who finished the six-kilometer
course in 22nd place with a time of 26:26. Freshman Ashley Brown (Kingwood,
W.Va./Preston) finished 30 seconds later (26:56) in 25th place. Junior
Samantha Snabes (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) was the third W&L
runner across the line with a time of 27:40 (36th place). On the mens side, the top performer for W&L was
sophomore Wes Bell (Dalton, Ga./McCallie School (Tenn.)) who finished
in 7th place with a time of 28:38. Junior Rusty Meyer (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit
Prep) and freshman Todd Martin (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) finished 24th and
37th with times of 30:00 and 30:55, respectively. Both the mens and womens cross country teams
will be in action again next Saturday at the Dickinson Invitational. The
start times for both races have yet to be finalized. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE IN GREAT AMERICAN CROSS COUNTRY FESTIVAL CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
cross country teams were in action at the Great American Cross Country
Festival Friday evening in Charlotte, N.C. Competing almost exclusively
against Division I competition, the mens team finished 10th out
of 14 teams, while the women placed 17th out of 22 teams. Junior Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) was the top runner for
the Generals, placing 34th after completing the course in 30:04.20. Sophomore
Steven Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) was the second W&L
runner to finish, coming in with a time of 31:03.30, which was good for
the 54th position. Freshman Andrew Johnson (Hardwick, N.J./Blair Academy)
was the 57th runner across the finish-line with a time of 31:17.80. In the womens race, freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee, Fla./MaClay
School) was the top Generals runner with a time of 22:14.50 (69th
place). Senior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) finished 81st
with a time of 22:27.00. The third W&L runner across the line was
freshman Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids), whos
time of 23:02.20 was good for 100th place. Both the mens and womens cross country teams will be in action Saturday morning at the Roanoke Invitational. The womens race begins first with a start time of 10:15 am. The mens gun will go off at 11:15. -- GENERALS -- W&L MENS AND WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY WIN
W&L INVITATIONAL LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
cross country teams were in action in the W&L Invitational on Saturday
morning in Lexington, Va. The mens team placed first out of four
teams, while the women finished first out of six teams. Washington and Lee took the top four spots in the mens race, led
by junior Andy Schorr (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), who won the race in
a time of 28:49.25. Sophomore Steven Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara
Area) placed second with a time of 29:28.87, freshman Andrew Johnson (Hardwick,
N.J./Blair Academy) was third (29:48.12), while senior Will Teichman (High
Point, N.C./T. Wingate Andrews) placed fourth with a time of 30:27.86. For the women, freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee, Fla./MaClay School)
led the way with a second place finish (25:58.00). Freshman Betsy Frayer
(Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) was third with a time of 26:22.00,
while sophomore Liz Crawford (West Orange, N.J./Mount St. Dominic Academy)
finished fourth (26:31.00). Catholic University freshman Rachel Yates
won the womens race with a time of 25:30.00. Both W&L cross country squads will be in action again on Fri., Sept.
27 at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Charlotte, N.C. The
mens race begins at 5:30 pm followed by the womens race at
6:30 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES IN ELON INVITATIONAL GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
cross country teams opened their season in the Elon Invitational on Saturday
morning. The Generals womens team placed 2nd of 13 teams,
while the men finished 5th of 15 teams. Freshman Molly Drake (Tallahassee, Fla./MaClay School) led the way for
the women with a 22nd place (20:14) finish out of 158 runners, while senior
Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) placed 25th overall with a
time of 20:19. Freshman Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids)
placed 33rd with a time of 20:49. The mens squad was led by sophomore Steven Chambers (Christiana,
Pa./Octorora Area), who placed 26th out of 155 runners, completing the
course in 28:14. Freshman Andrew Johnson (Hardwick, N.J./Blair Academy)
placed 38th with a time of 28:49, while sophomore Christopher LaFlamme
