W&L MEN'S SOCCER KNOCKED OFF BY RANDOLPH-MACON,
2-0 LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team
fell, 2-0, to Randolph-Macon in the semifinal round of the ODAC Tournament
on Saturday afternoon at the Liberty Hall Fields. The Yellow Jackets (11-7-1) were led by sophomore defender
Kevin Strosnider (Hopewell, Va./Prince George), who tallied a goal and
an assist. Knotted at 0-0 with three seconds to play in the first half,
freshman forward David Tait (Nokesville, Va./Brentsville) took Strosnider's
on-his-back pass and struck a shot into the back of the W&L net. R-MC added an insurance goal at the 55:37 mark when Strosnider
scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Brian Fowler (Westerville,
Ohio/St. Francis Desales). Freshman goaltender Michael Stanton (Rochester, N.Y./Greece
Olympia) logged all 90 minutes in the W&L net, making four saves.
For the Yellow Jackets, freshman Nick Warner (Timonium,
Md./Dulaney) made 10 saves in posting his fourth shutout of the season.
Randolph-Macon advances to Sunday's ODAC Championship match

on Wednesday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field. The Eagles (11-6, 5-4 ODAC) scored the lone goal at the
36:55 mark when freshman midfielder Griff Diguardo (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly)
banged a shot into the W&L net off a free-kick. From that point on,
the BC defense, led by junior goaltender Jon Boller's (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg)
three saves, stymied the Generals' offense. Despite holding a 17-9 edge in shots, the Generals were
unable to convert several scoring opportunities. Senior goaltender Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown
Prep) turned back three shots in the W&L net. The Generals (7-8-2, 5-4 ODAC) will be back in action this Saturday as they participate in the ODAC Tournament. pitch. Senior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers
Academy) keyed the Generals' attack with two goals and one assist. The Marlins (15-1-1, 6-1-1 ODAC) struck first at 32:01 when
senior midfielder Josh Nolz (Onancock, Va./Nandua) scored off an assist
from freshman midfielder Evan Siddall (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair).
However, W&L bounced back to even the score before halftime on a goal
from sophomore midfielder Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest)
at the 37:47 mark. After the break, W&L controlled the match, both outscoring
(3-0) and outshooting (9-4) VWC. Murphy recorded his first goal of the
game at 52:22 off an assist from junior midfielder Jacob Stoehr (San Antonio,
Texas/Alamo Heights) to put the Generals ahead, 2-1. W&L's third and
fourth goals came at 76:14 and 79:23, and were scored by freshman midfielder
Keith Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) and Murphy. In the Generals' net, senior goaltender Tim Foley (Darnestown,

W&L MEN'S SOCCER HOLDS OFF EASTERN MENNONITE, 2-1 HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer
team improved to 4-3 in the ODAC and 6-7-2 overall with a 2-1 victory
against Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va. Senior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) assisted on sophomore midfielder Justin Mygatt's (Winston, Ga./Woodward Academy) goal 10:32 into the match to put the Generals out in front, 1-0. Murphy later added the second W&L goal when he scored unassisted at the 33:48 mark. The Royals (9-8, 2-5 ODAC) avoided being shutout when the ball bounced off a W&L defender and into the Generals' goal with 3:32 remaining in the contest. For the afternoon, Eastern Mennonite held advantages of 20-10 in shots, and 9-1 in corner kicks. Senior goaltender Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) made five saves in the W&L net, while EMU goalies Brian Kleinert and Tim Koehn combined to turn back three shots in a losing effort. -- GENERALS -- GOALS ASSISTS GOALKEEPERS TEAM STATS W&L MEN'S SOCCER DROPS MATCH TO CATHOLIC, 4-3 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman midfielder Cameron Bassiri (Potomac,
Md./Churchill) recorded a hat trick to propel the Catholic men's soccer
team to a 4-3 win over Washington and Lee University on Saturday at the
Liberty Hall Fields. Bassiri put the Cardinals (7-5-1) on the board first at
9:29 after scoring on a long, weaving run through the W&L defense.
The Generals responded, evening the game at 1-1 less than a minute later
(10:20) when sophomore midfielder Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry
Forest) scored from senior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian
Brothers Academy). However, Catholic carried a 2-1 lead into halftime
when Bassiri scored his second goal on the afternoon at the 27:48 mark. Pirkle added his second goal for the Generals at 89:14 for
the final 4-3 margin. W&L will be in action again this Wednesday when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 4:00 pm match.

W&L MEN'S SOCCER DOWNS SAVANNAH A&D, 2-0 LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team
upped its record to 5-6-1 overall with a 2-0 win over Savannah College
of Art & Design on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field. Sophomore midfielder Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry
Forest) scored the first of his two goals at 9:33 of the first half when
the Bees misplayed the ball and left him with no one to beat but the goalie.
A little over 16 minutes later (26:09), senior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking,
N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) headed the ball to Pirkle, who again
found the back of the SCAD goal. In the Generals' net, senior goaltender Tim Foley (Darnestown,
Md./Georgetown Prep) repelled all five shots he faced, earning his second
shutout in as many games. For the Bees (2-9-1), freshman netminder Sam Wolfgram (Bradenton,
Fla./Southeast) made six saves to keep the game within reach. The Generals will look to even their record this Wednesday when they visit next-door neighbor VMI for a 4:00 contest.

Church, Va.) scored at 107:20 of the second overtime to lift the Southern
Virginia men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Washington and Lee on
Tuesday at the Liberty Hall Fields. W&L (3-6-1) opened the scoring in the 49th minute when senior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) leapt into the air and hammered a cross from sophomore midfielder Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) into the back of the net. However, that would be the last goal for the Generals, as their scoring opportunities were continuously thwarted by Southern Virginia's freshman goalie Chris Pierson (Varnville, S.C.), who made 10 saves for the afternoon. The Knights (10-1-1) got their first goal, tying the game
at 1-1, at 79:40 when junior forward Paul Johnson's (Chantilly, Va.) shot

defender Roger Morscheiser (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) outjumped the Yellow
Jacket defense to head freshman midfielder Walker Nickles' (Columbia,
S.C./A.L. Flora) corner kick into the back of the net. W&L (3-5-1, 2-3) senior goaltender Tim Foley (Darnestown,
Md./Georgetown Prep) made the two goals stand up with his aggressive play
in the Generals' net, making one save. Freshman Taylor Grant (Spotsylvania, Va./Episcopal) relieved

only goal when David Lechtrecker re-directed JM Monger's crossing pass
into the back of the Generals' goal. Roanoke goaltender Chris Ebeling made the 1-0 lead stand
up by making one save as W&L (1-5-1, 0-3) was unable to muster a goal
for the third straight game. The Maroons held advantages of 12-7 and 12-5 in shots and

lead the Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Methodist
College on Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville, N.C. Methodist (4-3) got on the board first when Kevin Gray's shot found the
back of the net in the 30th minute. W&L answered five minutes later
when freshman midfielder Walker Nickles (Columbia, S.C./A.L. Flora) scored
his first collegiate goal. The Monarchs again took the lead 11 minutes into the second half when
Bryan Madej's shot found the back of the net. However, W&L (1-2-1)
evened the score at 2-2 when senior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking,
N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) scored in the 77th minute, setting the

W&L MEN'S SOCCER TIES NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN, 1-1 FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer
team opened the Methodist Tournament with a 1-1 tie against North Carolina
Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Battling Bishops (4-2-1) got on the board first when Drew Martin scored a breakaway goal off an assist from Michael Brown at the 52:00 mark. The Generals (0-2-1) responded exactly seven minutes later
as sophomore defender Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) scored
unassisted off of a deflection. The two teams would then play the final
31:00 of regulation and two 10:00 overtimes scoreless. Senior Brad Hearn (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) played all 110 minutes in in goal, making 10 saves. George Frangos notched 11 saves in goal for North Carolina
Wesleyan. For the game, the Generals outshot the Battling Bishops, 22-18. Washington and Lee will be in action again on Sunday as the Generals take on tournament host Methodist. scored three second half goals to defeat Washington and Lee, 4-2, in men's
soccer action Sunday at the Southwestern Tournament. The Generals (0-2) jumped out to 1-0 advantage as senior
midfielder Kevin Bibona (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) assisted on sophomore
midfielder Brian Pirkle's (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) goal with
25:38 gone by. The Pirates (2-2) bounced back, however, knotting the game

team dropped its season-opener against Trinity University (Texas), 4-0,
on the first day of play at the Southwestern Tournament Saturday. The Tigers opened scoring at the 20:30 mark when Josh Card
assisted on Cullen Davies' goal. They would later add another first half
goal at 26:26 when Josh Card found the back of the Generals' net. Trinity, which upped its mark to 2-0, outshot W&L 24-1.
In the second half, Trinity added two more unanswered scores,
with Josh Smith and Card (assisted by Michael Pope) tallying goals. W&L (0-1) senior goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) stopped 17 shots for the Generals.
