ERIC RITTER EARNS HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
OXFORD, Ohio. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Eric Ritter
(Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) finished in 16th place in the 200 Backstroke
(1:54.66) in the final day of competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming
and Diving Championships on Saturday evening at the Rec Center on the
campus of Miami (Ohio).
Ritters performance earned him honorable mention all-american honors.
He received All-American accolades for his eighth-place finish in the
100 Backstroke (52.63) on Friday evening.
Ritter has now completed his three events at the national meet.

OXFORD, Ohio. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Eric Ritter
(Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) finished in eighth place in the 100
Backstroke with a time of 52.63 to earn All-American honors at the NCAA
Swimming Championships on Friday evening at the Rec Center on the campus
of Miami (Ohio).
Ritters time of 51.34 in the preliminary round seeded him sixth
for the finals and was also a school record. A year ago, Ritter just missed
out on All-American status in the 100 Back as he placed 17th.
Ritters final swim of the competition will come tomorrow when he
competes in the 200 Backstroke.

ERIC RITTER COMPETES IN DAY ONE ACTION OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
OXFORD, Ohio. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Eric Ritter
(Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) finished 36th in the 200 Individual
Medley (1:58.29) in the first day of competition at the NCAA Division
III Swimming Championships at the Rec Center on the campus of Miami (Ohio)
on Thursday afternoon.
Ritter will swim in two more events over the weekend. On Friday, he will
compete in the 100 Backstroke as the 10th seed. He will enter Saturdays
200 Backstroke as the sixth-seeded competitor.

W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING CAPTURES ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP
RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's swimming
team won the ODAC Championship at the ODAC/Atlantic States Invitational
on Sunday evening at the Dedmond Center in Radford, Va.
In the ODAC meet, the Generals tallied 610 points. Randolph-Macon was
second and Sweet Briar finished third. W&L won the Atlantic States
meet with 748 points and was followed by Randolph-Macon (425.50) and Agnes
Scott (378).
Junior Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) was named the Atlantic
States Swimmer of the Meet for the second consecutive season after claiming
three individual titles. Huffman won her third title on Sunday, taking
first-place honors in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:14.68.
Junior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) tallied a second-place finish
in the 100 Free (56.20), while sophomore Mandi Kimble (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro
Day School) placed second in the 200 Back (2:17.38). Freshman Eleanor
Williams (Metairie, La./Isidore Newman) notched a third-place finish in
the 200 Back (2:21.00).
Senior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child) claimed second place in
the 1650 Free as she registered a time of 19:12.00. The Generals also
placed first in the 400 Free Relay (3:46.00).

W&L MEN'S SWIMMING FINISHES FOURTH AT GROVE CITY
INVITATIONAL
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team finished in 4th place out of 11 teams at the Grove City Invitational.
The Generals claimed 397 points. Johns Hopkins won the event with 804
points, followed by Westminster (647), Grove City (520), W&L and Frostburg
State (333).
Sophomore Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) led the Generals
on the final day of competition as he won the 200 Back by recording an
NCAA A cut time of 1:51.91. His time also shattered the school-record
by almost two seconds. Ritters closest competitor in the race was
more than three seconds behind.
Freshman Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) placed third
in the 200 Fly (1:57.29), while sophomore Drew Catanese (Southhampton,
Mass./Suffield Academy) placed eighth (2:04.39).
W&Ls 400 Free Relay squad finished in third place. The group
of Ritter, junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) and sophomores
Colin Mitchell (Alberta, Canada/Springbank) and Jonathan James (Covington,
La./Covington) finished the race with a time of 3:12.99.
The Generals will return to action when they compete in the NCAA Division
III Championships from Mar. 21-23.

W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING COMPETES IN DAY TWO OF ODAC
CHAMPIONSHIPS
RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team stands in first place out of 14 teams after two days of competition
at the ODAC/Atlantic States Swimming Championships.
Leading the way for the Generals in the second day of competition was
junior Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) who won the 400 IM with
a national B cut time of 4:43.62. Huffman, who won the 200
IM on Friday night, also set ODAC, meet and school records with her swim
in the 400 IM.
The Generals also dominated the 200 Free as they claimed six of the top
10 times. Junior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) led the way by swimming
a lifetime-best time of 1:59.68. It marked the first time Austin swam
the event in under two minutes.
Sophomore Mandi Kimble (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) tallied
a second place finish in the 100 Back (1:04.68), while freshman Eleanor
Williams (Metairie, La./Isidore Newman) placed third in the same event
with a time of 1:04.68.
W&L also captured victories in the 200 Medley Relay and the 800 Free
Relay. The team of Kimble, Huffman, Austin and Williams combined to post
a time of 1:56.19 to win the 200 Medley Relay. Austin, senior Laura Ingoldsby
(McLean, Va./Holy Child), sophomore Jackie Green (Lynchburg, Va./E.C.
Glass) and freshman Laura Westerman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) swam a time
of 8:22.84 to earn first place in the 800 Free Relay.
The Generals return to action when they compete in the final day of action
at the championships on Sunday.

W&L MEN'S SWIMMING COMPETES IN DAY TWO OF GROVE
CITY INVITATIONAL
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team stands in 4th place out of 11 teams after the second day of competition
at the Grove City Invitational. The Generals claim 275 points and trail
first-place Johns Hopkins (528), second-place Westminster (452) and third-place
Grove City (339).
Junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) captured his second
individual title of the meet on Friday evening as he won the 1000 Free
with a meet-record time of 9:49.44.
Sophomore Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) also won an individual
title on Friday evening as he captured the 100 Back by swimming a pool-record
time of 51.58.
W&Ls 800 Free Relay squad finished in third place. The group
of Frankfort, Ritter, and sophomores Colin Mitchell (Alberta, Canada/Springbank)
and Jonathan James (Covington, La./Covington) finished the race with a
time of 7:11.98.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they compete in the final
day of the Grove City Invitational. Preliminaries will begin at 10:00
am, with the finals slated to start at 5:30 pm.

W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING COMPETES AT ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team stands in first place out of 14 teams after one day of competition
at the ODAC/Atlantic States Swimming Championships.
Leading the way for the Generals in the first day of competition was junior
Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) who won the 200 IM with a time
of 2:15.95. It marked the second consecutive season Huffman captured first
place in the event. Freshman Laura Westerman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty)
finished in fourth place with a personal-best time of 2:20.27.
Junior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) finished fourth in the 50 Free
with a season-best time of 25.85.
The Generals (8-5, 4-0) also performed very well in the relay events as
they captured first place in both the 200 Free and 400 Medley Relays.
The team of Austin, Westerman, freshman Eleanor Williams (Metairie, La./Isidore
Newman) and sophomore Mandi Kimble (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School),
combined to win the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:43.38.
Kimble, Huffman, Williams and Westerman recorded a time of 4:16.97 to
win the 400 Medley Relay.
The Generals return to action when they compete in day two of action at
the championships on Saturday.

W&L MEN'S SWIMMING COMPETES AT GROVE CITY INVITATIONAL
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team stands in 6th place out of 11 teams after the first day of competition
at the Grove City Invitational.
Junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) captured the 500
Free with a time of 4:40.72, which set a pool record and also earned him
an NCAA B cut. Junior Brett Burns (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster
Schools) finished 12th in the 500 Free with a time of 22.52.
The Generals fared extremely well in the relay events, as they finished
3rd in the 200 Free Relay and 4th in the 400 Medley Relay.
The team of sophomore Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook), sophomore
Colin Mitchell (Alberta, Canada/Springbank), junior Zach Fake (Upper Saddle
River, N.J./Northern Highlands) and Burns combined to lead the Generals
to a time of 1:27.57 in the 200 Free Relay.
In the 400 Medley Relay, Ritter led off the event by notching a school-record
and an NCAA B cut time of 51.60 in the backstroke. Ritter
teamed with Frankfort, Fake and sophomore Drew Catanese (Southhampton,
Mass./Suffield Academy) to finish the event with a time of 3:36.70.
The Generals return to action on Friday when they compete in day two of
the Grove City Invitational. Preliminaries will begin at 10:00 am, with
the finals slated to start at 6:30 pm.

W&L SWIMMING EACH DROP A PAIR OF DUAL MEETS
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens
and womens swimming teams were in action at Mary Washington College
on Friday and Saturday. The men dropped a 95-59 decision to the host school
and were also defeated by Johns Hopkins, 115-36. The womens squad
also dropped a pair of meets falling to Mary Washington, 113-38, and Johns
Hopkins, 120-31.
For the men, junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) finished
the 1650 Free with a time of 17:39.77, which took top honors in the meet
with Mary Washington. Frankfort also captured the 200 Free (1:49.53) in
the meet with the Eagles, finishing third overall. W&L sophomore Eric
Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) swam the top time of both meets
in the 200 Back (1:56.91). Ritter also claimed second place in the 100
Back (53.83).
On the womens side, senior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child)
finished fourth in the 1650 Free (19:08.97) and also placed fifth in the
500 Free (5:30.22). Sophomore Mandi Kimble (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro
Day School) placed third in the 200 Back (2:20.58), while junior Kelli
Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) claimed third place in the 200 Free (2:03.60)
and also finished fourth in the 100 Free (56.77).
The W&L mens squad (5-4) will return to action on February 21st
at the Grove City Invitational, while the women (7-5) will next compete
at the ODAC/Atlantic States Championships beginning on February 22nd.

W&L SWIMMING SWEEPS MARYMOUNT
LEXINGTON Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
swimming teams took top times in 20-of-22 events, while the men
set four meet records en route to sweeping Marymount at the Cy Twombly
Pool on Monday evening. The men were victorious, 133-57, while the women
defeated the Saints, 111-63.
Junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) posted a meet record
in the 200 Free (1:49.39), while sophomore Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain
Brook) swam the 200 IM in 2:05.59 to set a meet record. Sophomore Drew
Catanese (Southhampton, Mass./Suffield Academy) and classmate Colin Mitchell
(Alberta, Canada/Springbank) also tallied meet records. Catanese won the
100 Fly in 54.09, while Mitchell took top honors in the 100 Back (57.60).
For the women, six different W&L swimmers captured first place finishes,
led by senior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child), who won the 200
Free (2:04.45) and the 500 Free (5:39.03).
Both the mens and womens squads will be in action on Friday
as they compete against Mary Washington and Johns Hopkins. Action with
begin at 6:00 pm at Mary Washington.

W&L SWIMMING SWEEPS GROVE CITY
LEXINGTON Va. -- The Washington and Lee swimming team swept
Grove City College in a swim meet held Monday evening at the Cy Twombly
Pool. The men prevailed, 113-92, while the women were victorious, 131-74.
Leading the way for the women was junior Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North
Cross) who captured victories in the 200 IM (2:24.12), 200 Breast (2:39.54)
and 200 Fly (2:25.65). The Generals also claimed victories in both realys
winning the 200 Medley Relay (2:05.41) and the 200 Free Relay (1:48.72).
The men were led by junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass)
who won the 1000 Free (10:32.78) and the 500 Free (5:08.17). Sophomore
Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) also placed first in two
events. Ritter took top honors in the 50 Free (22.65) and 100 Free (49.63).
Both the mens and womens squads will be in action next Monday
when they host Marymount at 6:00 pm.

W&L SWIMMING SPLITS WITH CATHOLIC
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
swimming teams were in action at Catholic University on Saturday afternoon.
The mens team won, 135-67, while the women were defeated, 131-74.
Leading the way for the mens team was junior Patrick Frankfort
(Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), who emerged victorious in the 200 IM and
500 free events. In addition, Frankfort teamed with sophomore Eric Ritter
(Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook), sophomore Drew Cantanese (Southampton,
Mass./Suffield Academy) and senior Rick Black (Indiana, Pa./Marion Center)
to win the 400 medley relay. Ritter also won the 100 free for the Generals.
On the womens side, senior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child)
won the 1000 free and junior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) took home
runner-up honors in the 100 and 200 free events.
With the win, the W&L men improved to 3-2, while the women fell to
6-3 overall. Catholics women improved to 5-1 overall, while the
men fell to 2-3 overall.
Both the W&L mens and womens squads will be in action
again on Monday as they host Grove City for a 6:00 pm meet.

W&L MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING EACH POST VICTORIES
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams were both in action on Friday evening and
both came away with victories at the Cy Twombly Pool. The women were victorious
over Radford, 143-59, while the men defeated VMI, 126-78.
The women were led by senior Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) who was
swimming in her final meet as a General. Kennedy captured wins in the
200 IM (2:19.24) and the 100 Breast (1:10.51). She was the only W&L
swimmer to capture two victories.
On the mens side, junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C.
Glass) posted victories in the 1000 Free (10:59.80) and the 500 Free (5:07.57).
Like Kennedy, Frankfort was the only W&L swimmer to win two events.
The W&L women are now 6-2 on the season, while the men improved to
2-2.
The Generals will return to action on January 12, when they travel to
Catholic at 2:00 pm.

W&L WOMEN DEFEAT RANDOLPH-MACON WOMAN'S COLLEGE,
176-80
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior Katie Kennedy
(Delran, N.J./Delran) set two meet-records to help lead the womens
swim team to a 176-80 victory over Randolph-Macon Womans College
at the Cy Twombly Pool on Tuesday evening.
Kennedy set the meet-records in the 500 Free (5:31.07) and the 200 IM
(2:24.37). She also teamed with freshman Michelle Moore (Houston, Texas/St.
Agnes Academy), senior Maggie Fagan (Manhasset, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy)
and junior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) to capture the 200 Medley
Relay with a time of 2:05.01.
The team of senior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child), freshman
Katie Johnston (Richmond, Va./John Randolph Tucker), freshman Suzie LaFleur
(Natick, Mass./Montrose) and Austin was victorious in the 200 Free Relay
with a time of 1:54.33.
Lourdes Cuellar (Asuncion, Paraguay/Experimental Paraguay Brasil) had
a successful evening for RMWC as she set a meet-record in the 100 Fly
(1:04.40). Cuellar also captured victories in the 200 Fly (2:22.33) and
the 100 Free (59.11).
The victory improves W&L to 5-2 overall, 4-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference. The WildCats fell to 1-3, 0-3 in the ODAC.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday when it hosts Radford at
7:00 pm. The W&L mens team will host VMI at 7:00 pm on Friday
evening.

W&L SWIMMING DROPS A PAIR TO GETTYSBURG
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams both fell to Gettysburg on Sunday afternoon.
The men lost by a 149-85 count, while the women lost, 136.5-69.5.
The mens team was led by junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C.
Glass), who posted a victory in the 400 IM with a time of 4:34.58. The
Generals also won the 200 Free Relay.
On the womens side, senior Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) was
victorious in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:55.23.
The loss drops the womens squad to 4-2 on the season, while the
men fall to 1-2.
The womens swim team will be back in action on November 27th when
it hosts Randolph-Macon Womans College, while the men will return
to competition on November 30th with a home meet against VMI.

W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING DEFEATS HOLLINS, 148-96
ROANOKE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team improved its record to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference with a 148-96 victory at Hollins on Tuesday evening.
The women were led by senior Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) who captured
victories in the 100 Breast (1:11.86), 200 Free (2:05.16) and the 200
Back (2:26.23). Senior Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child) also won
two events, as she captured the 100 Free with a time of 1:00.50 and the
500 Free in 5:49.61.
The Generals also captured the 200 Medley Relay as Ingoldsby, junior Michelle
Moore (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy), senior Anne Lachiewicz (Chapel
Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and senior Maggie Fagan (Manhasset, N.Y./Sacred
Heart Academy) combined to win the event with a time of 2:07.65.
The squad returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Gettysburg for
a meet at 11:00 am.

W&L WOMENS SWIMMING DEFEATS RANDOLPH-MACON, 170-74
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming team improved
to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in the ODAC, with a 170-74 victory over Randolph-Macon
on Saturday morning in Ashland, Va.
The Generals were led by junior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles), who
won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams. Austin
took first place honors in the 50- (27.07) and 100-freestyle events (57.84)
and teamed with junior Michelle Moore (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes), senior
Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) and freshman Eleanor Williams (Metairie,
La./Newman) to win the medley relay (2:02.97). She also teamed with Moore,
Williams and freshman Laura Westerman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) to win
the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.80.
Kennedy won two individual events as well, taking first place in the
100-breaststroke (1:13.32) and 200-IM (2:23.01).
The Generals will be in action again on Tuesday as they travel to Hollins
for an 6:30 pm meet.

W&L WOMENS SWIMMING DEFEATS SWEET BRIAR,
155-94
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team improved to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC, with a 155-94 victory over
Sweet Briar on Wednesday evening at the Cy Twombly Pool.
The Generals were led by seniors Anne Lachiewicz (Chapel
Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child),
who won two events each. Lachiewicz was victorious in the 100- (1:21.23)
and 200-yard breaststroke (2:53.89), while Ingoldsby won the 200- (2:08.84)
and 500-yard (5:42.61) freestyle events.
Senior Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) won the 1000-yard
freestyle in a meet-record time of 11:22.72 and junior Michelle Moore
(Houston, Texas/St. Agnes) won the 200-yard backstroke in a meet-record
time of 2:24.65.
The Generals will be in action again on Saturday as they
travel to Randolph-Macon for an 11:00 am meet.

womens swimming teams both fell to Sewanee on Saturday afternoon.
The men lost by a 118-83 count, while the women lost, 135-75.
The mens team was led by junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C.
Glass), who posted victories in the 500 Free (5:07.88) and 1000 Free (10:37.20).
On the womens side, senior Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) captured
victories in the 100 Breast (1:10.92) and the 200 IM (2:20.37). Junior
Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) collected victories in the 100 Free
(57.05) and 200 Free (2:05.02).
The W&L men and women are both 1-1 on the season.
The womens swim team will be back in action on Wednesday when it
hosts Sweet Briar at 7:00 pm. The mens team returns to competition
when it travels to Gettysburg on November 18.

W&L SWIMMING SWEEPS TRANSYLVANIA
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
swimming teams both opened their seasons with victories over Transylvania
on Saturday afternoon at the Cy Twombly Pool. The men were victorious
by a 130-60 count, while the women came away with a 114-89 victory.
The mens team was led by junior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg,
Va./E.C. Glass), who posted a meet-record time of 5:04.26 in the 500
Free. Frankfort also captured the 200 Free (1:53.59).
Freshman Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) also posted
two victories for the mens squad, as he won the 200 IM (2:13.32)
and the 200 Fly (2:07.82).
On the womens side, senior Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran)
captured wins in the 1000 Free (11:24.81), 500 Free (5:38.36) and the
200 Breast (2:33.37). Junior Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) collected
victories in the 100 (57.80) and 200 Free (2:04.30).
The W&L men and women are both 1-0, while the Pioneer men and women
stand at 0-1.
The Generals will return to action next Saturday when they travel to
