GINDERS EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
HOLLAND, Mich. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Michael
Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) earned Honorable Mention All-America
accolades in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday evening at the 2005
NCAA Division III Mens Swimming Championships held at Hope College. Ginder, seeded 12th after swimming a time of 46.21 in
the morning preliminaries, placed 10th in a time of 45.97 to earn Honorable
Mention All-America honors. Ginder became only the second-ever W&L
swimmer to swim the 100-yard freestyle in under 46 seconds. Senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac)
finished 22nd in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:55.05. It was
the third fastest swim in W&L history. The Generals finished in 18th place with a total of 43 points. With today's competition, both swimmers conclude their
participation at the 2005 NCAA Division III Mens Swimming Championships. --GENERALS-- COLBY AND GINDER EARN ALL-AMERICA HONORS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS HOLLAND, Mich. -- Washington and Lee senior Chris Colby
(Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville,
Fla./Episcopal) earned All-America accolades on Friday evening at the
2005 NCAA Division III Mens Swimming Championships held at Hope
College. Colby, seeded 16th in the 100-yard butterfly after swimming
a time of 50.86 in the morning preliminaries, placed 14th in a time
of 50.82 to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors. Ginder, seeded second in the 200-yard freestyle after
swimming a then school-record time of 1:40.43 in the morning preliminaries,
touched the wall in a new school-record time of 1:39.17 to finish second
and earn All-America honors for the second consecutive season in this
event. Both swimmers will return to action tomorrow. Colby will
be competing in the 200-yard butterfly, while Ginder will swim in the

tied for sixth in a then school-record time of 20.95. Ginder will return to action tomorrow in the 200-yard
freestyle, while senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac)
will compete in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke events. --GENERALS-- W&L MEN'S SWIMMING COMPETES AT UGA BULLDOG INVITATIONAL ATHENS, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team set two school records on the first day of the University of Georgia
Bulldog Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ga. Senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac)
swam a school-record and NCAA B cut time of 50.45 in the
100-yard butterfly, while sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal)
swam an NCAA B cut time of 52.20 in the 100-yard backstroke. In the 200-yard medley relay, the foursome of Ginder,
freshman Stuart Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), Colby, and freshman
Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) swam a school-record and
NCAA B cut time of 1:35.08. The Generals will be back in the pool on Sunday in the
final day of the UGA Bulldog Invitational. --GENERALS-- W&L WOMENS SWIMMING WINS ODAC/ATLANTIC STATES CHAMPIONSHIP RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team claimed its 12th straight ODAC Championship at the ODAC/Atlantic
States Swimming Championships on Sunday evening. The Generals claimed 596 points to finish ahead of Randolph-Macon
(475), Randolph-Macon Womans (249.5), Sweet Briar (230), Hollins
(213) and Guilford (118.5). Additionally, the Generals claimed the Atlantic
States crown by finishing first out of 10 schools with 803 points. The
next-highest finisher was Randolph-Macon with 640 points. Individually on Sunday, the Generals were led by junior
Kristine Holda (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) and sophomore Abbie
Sauter (Darien, Conn./Darien) who each won an event. Holda placed first
in the 100 free (55.23), while Sauter won the 200 breast (2:29.83).
The two also swam a leg of the teams 400 free relay which finished
second overall (3:48.84). They were joined on the relay team by freshman
Allison Rogers (San Antonio, Texas/Northside Health Careers) and senior
Laura Westerman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty). Freshman Jessica Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) placed
second in the 200 back with a time of 2:16.26, while classmate Emma
Axt (Edina, Minn./Edina) finished third in the mile (18:57.69). Junior
Keturah Akida (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln) also finished third in the 200
back (2:20.42) and Rogers placed third in the 100 free with a time of
57.77. W&L has now completed its season with an 8-6 overall
record. The Generals were a perfect 5-0 against ODAC competition. -- GENERALS -- W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING IN FIRST AFTER DAY TWO OF ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team sits in first place after the second day of the ODAC/Atlantic States
Swimming Championships, held at Radford University on Saturday evening.
In the Atlantic States competition, Washington and Lee
is in first with 514 points. Randolph-Macon is second with 437 points
and is followed by Randolph-Macon Womans College (237.5), Sweet
Briar (216), Hollins (214),College of Notre Dame (164), Guilford (125.5),
Mary Baldwin (118), Greensboro (80), and Agnes Scott (74). The Generals had the top four finishers in the 100-yard
backstroke. Freshman Jess Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) won the
race in a time of 1:02.28, junior Keturah Akida (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln)
was second (1:04.09), freshman Katie Hager (Weston, Mass./Weston) placed
third (1:06.28) and sophomore Katie Long (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster Schools)
rounded out the top four in a time of 1:06.99. In the 100-yard butterfly, freshman Colette Moryan (Westfield,
N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) touched the wall in second place in a
time of 1:02.65. Washington and Lee returns to the pool on Sunday for the
final day of the ODAC/Atlantic State Championships. --GENERALS-- W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING IN FIRST AFTER DAY ONE OF ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS RADFORD, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team sits in first place after the first day of the ODAC/Atlantic States
Swimming Championships, held at Radford University on Friday evening.
The quartet of junior Keturah Akida (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln),
freshman Jess Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), sophomore Abbie Sauter
(Darien, Conn./Darien) and junior Kristine Holda (Strongville, Ohio/Strongsville)
captured the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:42.77. In the 400-yard medley relay, the foursome of Cobb, Sauter,
freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches) and Holda placed
second in a school-record time of 4:08.23. The Generals had four of the top five finishers in the
50-yard freestyle. Holda touched the wall first in 25.40, senior Suzie
LaFleur (Natick, Mass./Montrose) was third (26.32), freshman Allison
Rogers (San Antonio, Texas/Northside Health Careers) placed fourth (26.50),
and Akida rounded out the top five in a time of 26.54. Freshman Emma Axt (Edina, Minn./Edina) finished third
in the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.32), while Sauter took fourth in the
200-yard IM (2:17.11). Washington and Lee returns to the pool on Saturday for
day two of the ODAC/Atlantic State Championships. --GENERALS-- W&L MEN'S SWIMMING WINS BLUEGRASS MOUNTAIN CHAMPIONSHIP WOOSTER, Ohio -- Sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville,
Fla./Episcopal) was named co-swimmer of the meet and Head Coach Joel
Shinofield was named Coach of the Year as the Washington and Lee mens
swimming team won the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships for
the second consecutive season on Saturday evening at the Ellen Shapiro
Natatorium. The Generals took home the team title with 800 points.
Transylvania finished second with 493.50 points and was followed by
Fairmont State (489.50), West Virginia Wesleyan (424), Salem International
(390), Savannah College of Art & Design (300), Wheeling Jesuit (261),
and Asbury College (73). Ginder won the 100-yard freestyle in a pool-record and
NCAA B cut time of 46.03. It was also the second fastest
time in W&L history. Freshman Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro)
was fourth in a time of 48.65. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of McGlaston,
junior Reed Evans (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day), freshman Stuart
Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), and Ginder won the race in a
time of 3:10.02. Junior Clark Barrineau (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg)
touched the wall first in the 1650-yard freestyle in an NCAA B
cut time of 16:27.15. Sophomore Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer
Island) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:13.91. In the 200-yard butterfly, senior Chris Colby (Ossining,
N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) placed third (1:56.45) and Evans was fourth
(2:02.46). --GENERALS-- W&L MEN'S SWIMMING IN FIRST AFTER DAY TWO OF BGMC WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team won four events and set two school records to remain in first place
after the second day of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships
held at the Ellen Shapiro Natatorium on Friday evening. The Generals lead with 554 points. Transylvania is second
with 343.50 points and is followed by Fairmont State (335), West Virginia
Wesleyan (286.50), Salem International (271), Savannah College of Art
& Design (221), Wheeling Jesuit (181), and Asbury College (35). The quartet of sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville,

N.C./South Mecklenburg) touched the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle

the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle in an NCAA B cut
time of 21.18, while Hayes was victorious in the 200-yard IM in 1:58.07. McGlaston placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.57,
while freshman Will Hartmann (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy)
was fourth in the 200-yard IM in a time of 1:59.42. In the 500-yard freestyle, junior Clark Barrineau (Charlotte,
N.C./South Mecklenburg) finished second in a time of 4:45.89. Washington and Lee returns to the pool on Friday for day
two of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships. --GENERALS-- W&L SWIMMING SWEEPS MARYMOUNT ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams swept Marymount on Saturday afternoon in
Arlington, Va. The men upped their record to 6-2 with a 133-68 victory,
while the women improved to 8-6 with a 124-79 win. In the mens meet, the foursome of sophomore Kevin
Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), freshman Stuart Frankfort
(Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop
Stepinac) and sophomore Maxwell Pike (Goldsboro, N.C./Wayne Country
Day) won the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:41.89. Colby also won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:00.64, while
Frankfort captured the 200-yard IM in 2:08.99. Junior Clark Barrineau
(Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) was victorious in two individual
events. He touched the wall first in both the 500-yard (5:05.00) and
1000-yard (10:28.33) freestyles. In the womens meet, the quartet of freshman Jess
Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien,
Conn./Darien), freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches),

the 100-yard (55.94) and 200-yard (2:02.40) freestyle events. The W&L mens swimming team returns to the pool
at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships from Thu., Feb. 17
to Sat., Feb. 19. The W&L womens swimming team returns to

--GENERALS-- W&L SWIMMING FALLS TO JOHNS HOPKINS
BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams were both in action against Johns Hopkins
on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. The men dropped to 5-2 with
a 106-97 loss, while the women fell to 7-6 with a 107-86 defeat to the
Blue Jays. In the womens meet, the quartet of freshman Jess
Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien,
Conn./Darien), freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches),
and junior Kristine Holda (Strongville, Ohio/Strongsville) won both
relay events. They touched the wall first in the 200-yard medley relay
in a time of 1:55.78 and claimed the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.83. Holda also won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.27. Both teams return to action later this afternoon at Marymount
University. The meet begins at 5:00 pm. --GENERALS-- W&L SWIMMING SPLITS MEET AGAINST GETTYSBURG LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams were both in action against Gettysburg on
Saturday afternoon at Twombley Pool. The men improved to 5-1 with a
141-64 victory, while the women dropped to 7-5 with a 141-64 defeat
to the Bullets. In the mens meet, the quartet of freshman Will Hartmann
(Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy), sophomore Kevin Hayes (Mercer
Island, Wash./Mercer Island), senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop
Stepinac) and sophomore Maxwell Pike (Goldsboro, N.C./Wayne Country
Day) captured the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:41.77. Colby and sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal)
also won two individual events. Colby touched the wall first in the
200-yard freestyle (1:49.44) and in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.91).
Ginder claimed both the 50-yard (21.79) and 100-yard freestyle (48.30)
events. In the womens meet, the foursome of freshman Jess
Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien,
Conn./Darien), freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches),
and junior Kristine Holda (Strongville, Ohio/Strongsville) won the 200-yard
medley relay in a time of 1:54.88. Sauter won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.58) and placed
second in the 200-yard IM (2:20.60). Cobb was second in the 200-yard
backstroke (2:18.51), while Holda took second in the 100-yard freestyle
(56.67). The W&L swimming teams return to the pool on Sat.,
Jan. 29. They will compete at Johns Hopkins at 10:00 am before swimming
at Marymount at 5:00 pm. --GENERALS-- W&L SWIMMING FALLS TO SUNY GENESEO LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams were both defeated by SUNY Geneseo on Saturday
evening at Twombley Pool. The men fell to 4-1 with a 132-130 loss, while
the women dropped to 7-4 with a 141-118 setback. The Geneseo men upped
their record to 8-0, while the women improved to 6-1. In the mens meet, the quartet of sophomore Michael
Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal), freshman Stuart Frankfort (Lynchburg,
VA./E.C. Glass), senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac)
and freshman Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) won the 400-yard
medley relay in a time of 3:38.20. Ginder and Colby also won two individual events. Ginder
claimed both the 100-yard (48.13) and 200-yard (1:45.98) freestyle,
while Colby touched the wall first in both the 100-yard (52.73) and
200-yard (1:59.36) butterfly. In the womens meet, the Generals also had a pair
of double event winners. Freshman Jess Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown)
swam to first place finishes in the 100-yard (1:03.11) and 200-yard
(2:18.42) backstroke, while junior Kristine Holda (Strongville, Ohio/Strongsville)
was victorious in the 50-yard (25.92) and 100-yard (56.53) freestyle
events. The W&L swimming teams return to the pool on Sat.,
Jan. 15 when they host Gettysburg College. The meet begins at 2:00 pm. --GENERALS-- W&L MENS SWIMMING FINISHES SECOND AT F&M INVITATIONAL LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team finished second out of 11 teams at the Franklin & Marshall
Invitational over the weekend. The Generals scored 1019 points to finish behind only
Rowan University with 1412 points. W&L was followed by Gettysburg
(912.5), Bloomsburg (733), Ithaca (702), Widener (621.5), Marymount
(494), Swarthmore (482), Franklin & Marshall (476), McDaniel (154)
and Elizabethtown (8). For the three-day tournament, sophomore Michael Ginder
(Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) was the second-highest point-scorer among
swimmers in the invitational with 119 points scored. Junior Clark
Barrineau (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) scored 108 points to rank
fifth, while sophomore Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island)
finished seventh with 103 points scored. In sundays action, Ginder won the 100 free with
an NCAA B cut time of 46.37, the second-fastest time in
W&L history. Barrineau won the 1000 free with a time of 9:56.49,
while freshman Will Hartman (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) finished
second in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.69. Hayes finished
fourth in the 200 back, touching the wall in 2:01.94. Additionally, senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop
Stepinac) placed second in the 200 fly (1:56.69), while junior Reed
Evans (Greenboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) finished seventh in that same
event with a time of 2:03.54. The W&L 400 free relay team of Colby, Hartman, Evans
and freshman Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) placed fifth
overall with a time of 3:19.64. The Generals return to the pool on Sat., Jan. 8 when they
host Geneseo State at 6:00 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L MENS SWIMMING SECOND OF 11 TEAMS AT F&M INVITATIONAL LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team currently resides in second place out of 11 teams following the
second day of the three-day Franklin & Marshall Invitational on
Saturday afternoon. W&L claims 355 points and trails only Rowan University
with 371 points. Gettysburg resides in third place with 341.5 points. The Generals were paced on Saturday by the 200 free relay
team of junior Reed Evans (Greenboro, N.C./Greensboro Day), sophomore
Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal), and freshmen Stuart Frankfort
(Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) and Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro),
who placed first overall with a time of 1:27.31. Ginder, Frankfort and McGlaston also teamed with senior
Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) to place second overall
in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:37.58. Ginder also placed second in the 50 free, touching the
wall with a time of 21.59, while sophomore Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island,
Wash./Mercer Island) finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.93.
Junior Clark Barrineau (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) placed fifth
in the 500 free, touching in at 4:54.00. The Generals will finish the competition on Sunday and
then return to the pool on Sat., Jan. 8 as they host Geneseo State at
6:00 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L WOMENS SWIMMING WINS RANDOLPH-MACON INVITATIONAL ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team claimed the Randolph-Macon Invitational on Saturday afternoon by
finishing first of eight teams. The W&L men, sporting a limited
crew, finished second of four teams. The Generals women posted 512 points to finish ahead
of Randolph-Macon (482), St. Marys (322), Gallaudet (173), Hollins
(154), Hood (142), College of Notre Dame (117) and Guilford (107). On
the mens side, Gallaudet led the way with 265 points, followed
by W&L (256), St. Marys (184) and Hood (86). The W&L women were led by junior Kristine Holda (Strongsville,
Ohio/Strongsville), who finished first in the 50 free (26.00) and 100
free (56.03) and second in the 200 free (2:02.09). She also swam a leg
of the Generals 200 (1:44.00) and 400 free (3:49.55) relays, and
400 medley (4:17.09) relay, which all finished first. Freshman Jess Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) won the
100 back with a time of 1:03.71 and finished second in the 200 back
with a time of 2:18.32. She also participated with the three winning
relay teams. Sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien, Conn./Darien) claimed
the 200 breast in a time of 2:35.25 and also swam for all three winning
relay squads. For the men, freshman Trey Shehan (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge
County) won the 100 free and 200 IM events with times of 1:59.74 and
2:21.66. He also swam a leg of the 200 (1:56.53) and 400 (4:27.99) medley
relay and 200 free (1:43.41) relay teams that finished first overall. Freshman Michael Braunscheidel (Apalachin, N.Y./Owego
Free Academy) also swam on the three winning relay teams and won the
100 free with a time of 55.03. Both the men and womens swimming teams will return
to action on Sat., Jan. 8 as they host Geneseo State at 6:00 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L MEN'S SWIMMING FOURTH AFTER DAY ONE OF F&M INVITATIONAL LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens swimming
team resides in fourth place out of 10 teams after the first day of
the three-day Franklin and Marshall Invitational held in Lancaster,
Pa. The only event swam on the first day was the 1650-yard

team sits in first place out of eight teams after the first day of the
two-day Randolph-Macon Invitational held in Ashland, Va. The Generals
have 274 points while the host Yellow Jackets are second with 267 points. Junior Kristine Holda (Strongville, Ohio/Strongsville)
and freshman Jess Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each won an individual
event and a relay event. Holda captured the 50-yard freestyle (26.00),
while Cobb placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.70). Holda
and Cobb teamed up with sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien, Conn./Darien)
and freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches) to win the
200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:44.00. Holda also placed second
in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.09). Freshman Colette Moryan (Westfield, N.J./Mount Saint Mary
Academy) also had a strong performance. She swam to a second place finish
in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.81) and teamed up with junior Keturah
Akida (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln), senior Tasia Fisher (Stoney Creek,
Conn./Sacred Heart Academy), and freshman Allison Rogers (San Antonio,
Texas/Northside Health Careers) to touch the wall in second place in
the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.14). W&L returns to the pool on Saturday morning for day
two of the R-MC Invitational. --GENERALS-- W&L SWIMMING COMPETES AGAINST BRYN MAWR AND DICKINSON BRYN MAWR, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams were in action on Saturday afternoon against
Bryn Mawr and Dickinson in Bryn Mawr, Pa. The men remained perfect at
4-0 with a 133-63 win over Dickinson while the women defeated Bryn Mawr,
157-47, but fell to Dickinson, 92-111, and are now 7-3 on the season.
In the mens meet, the quartet of freshmen Will Hartmann
(Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) and Stuart Frankfort (Lynchburg,
Va./E.C. Glass), senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac),
and junior Reed Evans (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) won the 400-yard
medley relay in a time of 3:46.39. Colby and freshman Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro)
won two individual events. Colby won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.41)
and 200-yard butterfly (2:02.09) while McGlaston claimed the 50-yard
(22.38) and 100-yard (50.38) freestyle events. In the womens meet, freshman Jessica Cobb (Moorestown,
N.J./Moorestown) won two individual events and a relay event. Cobb touched
the wall first in the 200-yard IM (2:18.05) and 200-yard backstroke
(2:16.02). She also teamed up with sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien, Conn./Darien),
freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches), and junior Kristine
Holda (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) to win the 400-yard medley relay
in a time of 4:13.95. Holda was also victorious in the 100-yard freestyle
(55.74). The W&L mens swimming team returns to the pool
when it participates at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational beginning
on Fri., Dec. 3 at 6:00 pm.. The womens team is back in action
at the Randolph-Macon Invitational starting on Fri., Dec. 3 at 5:00
pm. --GENERALS-- W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING DOWNS SWEET BRIAR, 132-86 SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens
swimming team finished the ODAC season with a perfect 5-0 mark and improved
to 6-2 overall with a 132-86 victory over Sweet Briar on Wednesday evening
in Sweet Briar, Va. The foursome of junior Keturah Akida (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln),
sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien, Conn./Darien), freshman Amy Roberson
(Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches) and junior Kristine Holda (Strongville,
Ohio/Strongsville) won the 200-meter medley relay in a time of 2:13.73. Akida, Sauter, and Holda also won individual events. Akida
captured the 100-meter backstroke in 1:14.93, Sauter claimed the 100-meter
breaststroke in 1:23.07, and Holda was victorious in the 200-meter freestyle
in 2:22.47. Freshman Emma Axt (Edina, Minn./Edina) won the 400-meter
IM in 5:31.99 while senior Laura Westerman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty)
ripped through the water to win the 800-meter freestyle in 10:26.69.
With the loss, Sweet Briar fell to 4-2 overall and 2-2
in the ODAC. --GENERALS-- W&L WOMEN'S SWIMMING DEFEATS GUILFORD, 108-84, AND HOLLINS, 174-58 ROANOKE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens swimming
team improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the ODAC with wins over Guilford,
108-84, and Hollins, 174-58, on Saturday afternoon at Hollins University
in Roanoke, Va. The quartet of freshman Jess Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown),

Hollins dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the ODAC. --GENERALS-- W&L WOMENS SWIMMING DEFEATS RWMC, 55-31 LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens
swimming team improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC with a 55-31
win over Randolph-Macon Womans College on Thursday evening. The Generals were led by junior Kristine Holda (Strongsville,
Ohio/Strongsville) and freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches),
who each won an individual event and a relay event. Holda finished first in the 500 freestyle and swam a leg
of the 200 medley relay which finished first. Roberson won the 100 backstroke
and swam another leg of the medley relay. They were joined on the relay
team by sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien, Conn./Darien) and freshman Jess
Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown). Event times were unavailable. With the loss, RMWC fell to 1-3 overall. swimming team opened up its ODAC schedule with a 132-130 victory over
Randolph-Macon College on Friday evening at Twombley Pool. The Generals (2-2, 1-0) trailed 124-121 heading into the
200-yard freestyle relay but the quartet of freshmen Allison Rogers
(San Antonio, Texas/Northside Health Careers) and Jess Cobb (Moorestown,
N.J./Moorestown), sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien, Conn./Darien) and
freshman Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches) won the event
in a time of 1:43.18 to help W&L win the meet. Cobb, Sauter, Roberson, and junior Kristine Holda (Strongville,
Ohio/Strongsville) began the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley
relay in a pool and school-record time of 1:53.53. Holda also won two

womens swimming teams opened up their home schedule against Catholic
on Saturday afternoon at Twombley Pool. The men won 202-59, while the
women lost 124-138. In the mens meet, the quartet of freshmen Will Hartmann
(Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) and Stuart Frankfort (Lynchburg,
VA./E.C. Glass), senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac),
and sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) captured
the 200-yard medley relay in a pool-record time of 1:38.23. Ginder, Colby, and sophomore Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island,
Wash./Mercer Island) were all double-winners in individual events. Ginder
won both the 100-yard backstroke (54.16) and 500-yard freestyle (4:56.23),
Colby captured the 100 and 200-yard butterfly in 54.45 and 2:03.29,

AND DEPAUW LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens swimming teams opened their 2004-05 seasons against Transylvania
and DePauw in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday afternoon. The mens team
defeated Transylvania, 143.5-61.5, and DePauw, 127-76, while the women
beat Transylvania, 112-93, and fell to DePauw, 90-115. In the mens meet, the quartet of freshmen Will Hartmann
(Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) and Stuart Frankfort (Lynchburg,
Va./E.C. Glass), senior Chris Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac),
and junior Jonathan James (Covington, La./Covington) swam to a first place
finish in the 400 medley relay in a meet-record time of 3:41.77. Sophomore Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal)
was a double-winner by capturing both the 200 freestyle (1:48.05) and

School) had a fine debut by placing first in the 500 freestyle in a time
of 5:10.57. In the womens meet, sophomore Abbie Sauter (Darien,
Conn./Darien) won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:37.98 while freshman
Jessica Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) swam to a second place finish
in the 200 backstroke (2:15.79). In the 400 freestyle relay, senior Suzie
LaFleur (Natick, Mass./Montrose), sophomore Sarah Bloom (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant
Valley), and freshmen Danielle Cardone (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands
