1996-97 Washington and Lee Men's Swimming Results

Mary Washington 114, W&L 83
February 1, 1997 -- Lexington, Va.
	W&L finished up the dual meet portion of their season with a 
114-83 loss to state rival Mary Washington on Saturday. With the loss, 
W&L finishes with a dual meet record of 7-4.
	Leading the way for the Generals were senior co-captain Steve 
Brigance, who won the 100-yard free in a time of 50.54 and freshman 
Jarred Fribush, who won the 50-yard free in a time of 22.90.


W&L 115, Sewanee 90
January 31, 1997 -- Lexington, Va.
	W&L picked up their seventh win of the season by defeating 
visiting Sewanee 115-90 Friday night in the Cy Twombly pool. With the 
win, W&L improved to 7-3 on the season, and the seven wins is the most 
for the Generals since the 1992-93 team won nine.
	For W&L, senior co-captains Nathan Hottle and Steve Brigance led 
the way with three wins each. Hottle won the 200-yard free, the 200-yard 
back and the 200-yard breast, while Brigance won the 1000-yard free, the 
200-yard fly and the 500-yard free.


Johns Hopkins 99, W&L 23; Emory 86, W&L 36
January 25, 1997 -- Chapel Hill, N. C.
	W&L lost two meets over the weekend, as they fell 99-23 to Johns 
Hopkins and 86-36 to Emory in a tri-meet at UNC-Chapel Hill. With the 
losses, W&L fell to 6-3 for the season, with just two meets remaining 
before the SCAC championships.
	For W&L, senior co-captain Nathan Hottle had three second place 
finishes, including losing the 100-yard breast by just .02 seconds and 
the 400-yard individual medley by just .19 seconds.
	W&L will host Sewanee Friday night at 7:00 PM and then will host 
Mary Washington on Saturday at 2:00 PM in their final dual meets of the 
season. 



W&L 104, Catholic 101
January 18, 1997 -- Lexington, Va.
	The Generals won their fifth straight meet of the season to 
improve to 6-1 and ensure a winning record for the year by defeating 
Catholic 104-101 on Saturday.
	W&L got three first place finishes from senior co-captain Steve 
Brigance, as he won the 200 yard free (1:51.34), the 200 yard fly 
(2:05.95) and the 500 yard free (5:14.56). The Generals also got strong 
performances from senior co-captain Nathan Hottle and freshman Jarred 
Fribush. Hottle won the 200 yard individual medley (2:01.86) and the 200 
yard breaststroke (2:17.67), while Fribush placed first in the 50 yard 
freestyle (22.46) and the 100 yard free (49.91). 


W&L 114, Goucher 43
January 15, 1997 -- Lexington, Va.
 	W&L won their fourth straight match of the season to improve to 
5-1 for the season with a 114-43 victory over Goucher on Wednesday in the 
Cy Twombly pool. W&L got two wins each from senior co-captains Steve 
Brigance and Nathan Hottle and two wins from freshman Jarred Fribush. 
Brigance won the 200 yard free (1:51.67) and the 200 yard fly (2:08.35), 
Hottle won the 200 Individual Medley (2:02.22) and the 200 yard breast 
(2:18.19), and Fribush won the 50 yard free (22.40) and the 100 yard free 
(50.32).



W&L 128, Buffalo State 50
January 13, 1997 -- Lexington, Va.
	The Generals returned to the pool for the first time since Dec. 7 
and defeated visiting Buffalo State College 128-50. The Generals were led 
by senior captain Steve Brigance and junior John Reed. Brigance won the 
50 yard free (23.02) and the 100 yard butterfly (56.10), while Reed won 
the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.74) and took second in the 100 yard 
freestyle (52.02).


W&L 129, VMI 74
December 7, 1996 -- Lexington, Va.
W&L improved it's record to 3-1 on the season with a 129-74 victory over 
cross-town rival VMI on Saturday in the Cy Twombly pool. For the 
Generals, freshman Jarred Fribush and senior Nathan Hottle each won two 
events, and W&L won both of the relay events. Fribush won both the 
50-yard free (22.80) and the 100-yard free (52.31), while Hottle won the 
200-yard Individual Medley (2:03.67) and set a new meet record in the 
200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.44.

W&L 119, Marymount 56
November 16, 1996 -- Arlington, Virginia
The Generals improved their record to 2-1 on the season by defeating the 
host Saints of Marymount University by the final score of 119-56. Nathan 
Hottle was the big scorer for the Generals once again, as he won the 
100-yard free (49.21), the 400-yard individual medley (4:28.14) and the 
100-yard breaststroke (1:01.42). W&L also got a first place finish from 
senior co-captain Steve Brigance as he won the 100-yard butterfly in a 
time of 57.15. W&L also picked up big points by taking first, second and 
third in the 200-yard free relay.

 
Transylvania 112, W&L 90 November 9, 1996 -- Lexington, Kentucky
After defeating Centre College earlier in the day, the Generals fell 
112-90 to Transylvania, to start their season 1-1. For W&L, senior 
All-American Nathan Hottle led the way as he would win the 200-yard 
freestyle (1:53.98), the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.43) and the 
200-yard backstroke (2:03.34). John Reed also swam well for W&L as he 
won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:26.69.


W&L 100, Centre 76 
November 9, 1996 -- Danville, Kentucky
The Generals opened the season with a 100-76 victory over Centre College 
as senior All-American Nathan Hottle won the 200-yard indiviudal medley 
(2:01.67) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.76). W&L won eight of the 11 
races in the meet and finished 1-2 in both relays.
