McCLURE AND SHAY FALL IN NCAA INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior Paul McClure
(Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) and junior David Shay (Martinez,
Ga./Augusta Prep) were defeated in the first round of the NCAA Division
III Doubles Championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of the
University of California Santa Cruz. Additionally, McClure was eliminated
from the singles championships with a second round loss. In singles, McClure won his opening round match against
Ryan Carty of the College of New Jersey by a score of 5-7, 6-3, 7-5.
He was then defeated in the second round by Jim Shaunessey of Trinity
(Texas) by a score of 6-2, 6-3. The tandem of McClure and Shay were defeated in the first
round of the doubles competition by Michael Malvits and Julian Seelan
of Kalamazoo College, 6-2, 6-3. McClure finished his season with a 16-9 singles record,
while the duo of McClure and Shay went 12-10 overall. LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens tennis
team won its 10th-straight conference championship, claiming four singles
flights and all three doubles flights in the 2005 Old Dominion Athletic
Conference Championship held at W&L. The Generals tallied 85 points
and were followed by Roanoke (76), Guilford (66), Hampden-Sydney (53),
Lynchburg (53), Bridgewater (43), Virginia Wesleyan (39), Emory &
Henry (35), Eastern Mennonite (27) and Randolph-Macon (12). Hampden-Sydney junior Patrick Gee (Richmond, Va./Douglas
Freeman) was named the ODAC Player of the Year after winning the No.
1 singles flight. Gee defeated Lynchburg senior Santiago Gindre (Leatherhead,
U.K.) in the final, 6-3, 6-3. Roanoke freshman Kyle Allen (Bristol, Va./Abingdon) was
named the ODAC Rookie of the Year after finishing as the runner-up at
No. 2 singles. Allen fell to Washington and Lee junior David Shay (Martinez,
Ga./Augusta Prep), 6-0, 6-0 in the second singles final. Additionally, Washington and Lee Head Coach David Detwiler
was named the ODAC Coach of the Year, while W&L senior Paul McClure
(Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) was named the ODAC Mens
Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. At No. 3 singles, Guilford freshman Caleb Kimbrough (Carrboro,
N.C./Chapel Hill) claimed the title with a 0-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Washington
and Lee sophomore Jon Malooly (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall). In the fourth singles bracket, W&L senior Jeff Lusk
(Shreveport, La./Captain Shreve) emerged victorious with a 6-2, 6-2
win over Roanoke sophomore Greg Oliff (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) in
the finals. At No. 5 singles, W&L junior Jordan Eichenberger (San
Rafael, Calif./San Rafael) defeated Roanoke junior Jon Byerly (Floyd,
Va./Floyd Couty), 6-2, 6-0 in the finals. W&L also took home the
No. 6 singles title as junior Charles Anderson (Brentwood, Tenn./Montgomery
Bell) knocked off Roanoke sophomore Tim Van Rheenan (Warminster, Pa./Phil-Mont
Academy) in the finals, 6-3, 6-3. In doubles, the W&L duo of Shay and freshman Seth
Feibelman (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) were victors in the first
flight by defeating the tandem of Virginia Wesleyan sophomores Jeff
Zenisek (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail) and Chris Lyon (Brooklyn,
Conn./Killingly) in the finals, 8-0. At No. 2 doubles, W&Ls Lusk and Eichenberger
defeated Bridgewater juniors Jarod Spessard (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport)
and David Behm (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) in the finals, 8-2. At third
doubles, W&L junior Chris Kimmel (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyanne
Mountain) and Anderson claimed the title with an 8-0 win over Roanokes
Oliff and Van Rheenan in the finals. -- ODAC TENNIS -- W&L MEN'S TENNIS BREEZES THROUGH DAY ONE OF ODAC TOURNAMENT LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens tennis
team breezed through the opening day of the ODAC Tournament by advancing
five of the six singles players to the finals and all three doubles
teams to the semifinals. Junior David Shay (Martinez, Ga./Augusta Prep), sophomore
Jon Malooly (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall), senior Jeff Lusk (Shreveport,
La./Captain Shreve) and juniors Jordan Eichenberger (San Rafael, Calif./San
Rafael) and Charles Anderson (Brentwood, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) all
notched 2-0 records to advance to the finals of their respective singles
flights. All five players were the number one seed in their flights. Shay will face off against second-seeded Kyle Allen of
Roanoke in second singles, while Malooly takes on second-seeded Caleb
Kimbrough of Guilford in third singles. In the No. 4 singles championship,
Lusk will face second-seeded Greg Oliff of Roanoke and Eichenberger
squares off against second-seeded Jon Byerle of Roanoke in fifth singles.
Anderson will take on second-seeded Tim Van Rheenen of Roanoke for the
title at No. 6 singles. At No. 1 singles, senior Paul McClure (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis
University School) ,the two-time ODAC Player of the Year, was unable
to play due to injury. In his place, freshman Seth Feibelman (Richmond,
Va./Douglas Freeman), seeded 10th, defeated ninth-seeded Mike Marquart
of Randolph-Macon, 8-0, before falling in the quarterfinals to top-seeded
Patrick Gee of Hampden-Sydney, 6-0, 6-4. In doubles, all three W&L teams were the top seed
and advanced to the semifinals. At No. 1 doubles, Shay and Feibelman
meet the duo of Matt Haga and Kyle Allen of Roanoke. Lusk and Eichenberger
will square off against Guilfords Ryo Kawai and Mike Muir at No.
2 doubles, while Anderson and junior Chris Kimmell (Colorado Springs,
Colo./Cheyanne Mountain) face the pair of Doran Pacciocco and Bruce
Meyer of Hampden-Sydney for the title at No. 3 doubles. W&L will be attempting to win its 10th consecutive
ODAC Championship and 24th in the last 29 years. The tournament resumes

a pair of victories on Sunday. He defeated Boris Sosman of Carnegie
Mellon, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, then knocked off Andrew Danos of Goucher in the
quarterfinals, 7-6 (6), 6-2. Shay, the top seed, downed Matt Rogers of Mary Washington,
6-2, 6-3 and Vivian Chhetri of Washington College, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. As a doubles team, McClure and Shay both also advanced
to the semifinals. Sophomore Jon Malooly (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and
freshman Nat Estes (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) were both knocked
off in the singles round of 16, while the doubles team of junior Chris
Kimmel (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyanne Mountain) and senior Jeff Lusk
(Shreveport, La./Captain Shreve) fell in the round of 16 in doubles. McClure and Shay will return to action on Monday morning

6-1) to reach the championship match. He then defeated Porus Jetli of
Davidson in the finals, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. In the second doubles flight, the duo of freshmen Tim
Ross (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) and Nate Estes (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud)
won the championship by defeating Porus Jetli and Flav Simihaian of
Davidson in the finals, 8-6. Ross and Estes also downed Jared McKiernan
and Vaez of Davidson (8-2) and Don Davidson and Michael McGettigan of
James Madison (8-5) on their way to the title. The W&L duo of freshmen Joseph Sanford (New Orleans,
La./Jesuit) and Seth Feibelman (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) finished
as the runner-up of the first doubles flight, falling to Russ Burns
and Matt Hartman of Davidson, 8-2, in the final. Washington and Lee returns to action on Sat., Oct. 2 as
