In his seventh season as men's tennis coach is David Detwiler, a 1988 graduate of Furman University.

In six seasons, Detwiler has led the Generals to a 86-38 cumulative record, six Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships and six trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Additionally, his teams have been ranked in the Top 10 nationally for much of his tenure.

Five times Detwiler has led W&L to an opening round win in the NCAA Tournament and he has engineered wins over numerous Top 25 programs.

Detwiler is no stranger to Washington and Lee tennis as, prior to taking over the men's team, he had been an assistant women's tennis and men's tennis coach and manager of the Duchossois Tennis Center for for three years. During that time, he helped lead the Generals' women's squad to two ODAC Championships and two NCAA Tournament berths.

Before arriving at W&L, Detwiler spent eight years as the Tennis Director at Shadow Oaks Racquet Club in Greenville, S.C.

Detwiler was a four-year letterwinner at Furman and served as the team captain his senior year. He won two Southern Conference singles titles and three doubles titles while helping the team to two league championships.
