HEAD COACH NATE HOEY
In 2006, the Generals produced numerous awards including: 13-Individual Conference Champions, 24-All Conference Performances, 30 School Records, 2-All Time Conference Records, 2-Conference Championship Meet Records, 2-Conference Rookie-Of-The-Year honorees, and 1-Athlete-Of-The-Year recipient. Additionally, 17 team members were named “Scholar-Athletes” for having a GPA over 3.50 and for the third year in a row both the men’s and women’s teams earned USTCCCA “National All Academic Team” accolades (for having an average GPA over 3.10). In all, during the three season Hoey has guided the Generals program, both men’s and women’s teams have tallied up: 30-Conference Champions, 46-All Conference Performances, 60-School Records, 3-National Qualifiers, 6-Conference Records, 3-Conference Athlete-Of –The Year honorees, 2-Conference Rookie-Of-The-Year awards, 62- Scholar Athletes and 6-National All Academic Teams. Prior to his appointment at W&L, Hoey served as the assistant cross country and track and field coach at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Hoey was responsible for the development of the men’s and women’s sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers. In two seasons at the NCAA division II school, he guided athletes to one All-America and 18 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Awards. His commitment to academic excellence was demonstrated when the WCU Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams earned National All-Academic Team recognition in 2001. In addition to collegiate athletes, Hoey has consulted and worked on speed, power and strength development with a wide variety professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, MLB, WUSA, and the MLLHoey is a 2000 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a degree in exercise and sport science. While at SRU he was a 13-time All-Conference track and field athlete, three-time conference champion, was twice named athlete-of-the-year, and a PSAC record holder. Coach Hoey is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, holds the Club Coach Certification from USA Weightlifting, is a USA Track & Field Level II Certified coach in the jumps, sprints, hurdles, relays and combined events. He is working towards his USATF Level III certification in the jumps and is also certified through the Pole Vault Safety Certification Board. Coach Hoey holds the rank of assistant professor of physical education at the University and serves as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Chairperson |
