Tournament To Showcase Nation's Top Eight Doubles Teams
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior Melissa Hatley (Columbia, S.C./Heathwood Hall) and sophomore Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) will compete starting Thursday at the 2000 Rolex National Small College Tennis Championships at the Racquet Club of Memphis and Rhodes College. The tournament matches the nation's top eight small college singles and doubles teams.
Hatley and Proko qualified for the national tournament by advancing to the finals of the ITA Southeast Regional. Hatley and Proko entered the finals by defeating Lara Hansen and Julia Neugebauer of Sweet Briar, 6-4, 6-3, and then beating their teammates Laura Bruno and Elizabeth Law in the semifinal round.
The duo will face off against Kelli Howard and Whitney Henderson of Pomona-Pitzer in the first round on Thursday.
The singles and doubles champions will earn berths into the 2001 Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships which takes place in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 1-4.
