Both Swimmers Will Compete In Three Events
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and freshman Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) will both compete in the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships starting on Thursday, March 15 at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
Hayes earned a trip to the national championships after posting NCAA "B" cut qualifying times in the 100 (50.58) and 200 (1:53.17) butterfly events at the Grove City Invitational. He will also swim in the 200 IM, in which he posted a season-best time of 1:56.56 in his victory at Grove City.
Ritter also qualified for the NCAA Championships after winning the 100 Backstroke at the Grove City Invite in a school-record time of 52.14. He then finished second in the 200 Backstroke in a NCAA "B" cut time of 1:54.99. Ritter will also swim the 50 Freestyle and posted a season-best time of 22.22 at Grove City.
The duo also combined to set school records this season in the 200 (1:36.59) and 400 Medley Relay (3:30.18) events.
