TWELVE GENERALS NAMED TO ALL-ODAC FOOTBALL TEAM
Frank Miriello Named Co-Coach of the Year

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its all-conference football team on Tuesday afternoon and Washington and Lee had 12 players honored. In addition, Head Coach Frank Miriello was named Co-Coach of the Year along with Bridgewater's Mike Clark. Bridgewater quarterback Jason Lutz was named the ODAC Player of the Year.

Junior running back Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights), junior offensive lineman Mat Rapoza (Kill Devil Hills, N.C./Manteo), sophomore offensive lineman Scott Kucinski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), senior place kicker Brad Wiginton (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and senior linebacker Jeff Bahl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) were all named to the first team. Senior running back Marc Watson (Marietta, Ga./Walton), sophomore defensive lineman Brian Becker (Vienna, Va./Gonzaga) and senior cornerback Chris Shortall (San Anslemo, Calif./Marin Catholic) were all named to the second team, while junior tight end Jay Thomas (Houston, Texas/Kincaid), sophomore defensive lineman Jess Lipsey (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley), sophomore linebacker Ben Krasnoff (Towson, Md./Towson) and sophomore safety Ted Maffitt (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) were named to the honorable mention squad.

Miriello's coach of the year selection was the second of his career. He was tabbed as the coach of the year following the 1996 season as well.

Sullivan was named to the first team after garnering second team honors in 1999. He rushed for 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns on a school-record 253 carries, caught 27 passes for 268 yards and another touchdown, returned 19 punts for 204 yards and returned 13 kicks for 347 yards and one touchdown. Sullivan led Division III with 2,024 all-purpose yards.

Rapoza and Kucinski helped lead the way for Sullivan as the W&L offensive line helped the Generals average 331.0 yards per game. The line surrendered just 10 sacks in 276 pass attempts for the season.

Wiginton set a school record with 12 field goals during the 2001 season. Wiginton nailed 12-of-18 field goals and all 26 of his PAT attempts. He finished his career with 23 field goals, second all-time at W&L.

Bahl earned his second straight first team selection after leading the Generals with 93 tackles, six sacks and four fumble recoveries. For his career, Bahl tallied 16.5 sacks and 15 fumble recoveries.

Watson was named to the second team after earning first team honors in 1998 and 2000. The 2000 ODAC Player of the Year, Watson recorded 630 yards and 10 touchdowns on 126 carries. He also caught 36 passes for 330 yards and another touchdown. Watson ends his career as W&L's all-time leading rusher (3,112), all-time scoring leader (220 pts.) and all-time leader in all-purpose yards (5,184).

Becker was selected to the second team for the second consecutive season after posting 32 tackles and two sacks on the season. Shortall had his best season for the Blue and White, totaling 41 tackles, 13 pass breakups and five interceptions.

Thomas registered team-highs in catches (38), receiving yards (575) and receiving touchdowns (6). Lipsey notched 43 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss, while Krasnoff posted 72 tackles, 0.5 sacks and one interception. Maffitt tied for the team-lead with five interceptions and posted 59 tackles and one sack.

Washington and Lee ended the 2001 season with a 5-5 overall record. The Generals tied for second in the ODAC with a 3-3 record.
