Generals Awarded The Third Seed In South Region

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The NCAA announced the 2002 Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament pairings on Sunday evening and the Washington and Lee received the third seed in the South Region bracket. The Generals (12-3) will host Widener University (12-3) on Wednesday afternoon in the opening round. The game time will be determined on Monday morning.

Widener received the automatic bid from the Middle Atlantic Conference following a 9-8 win over Lycoming in the finals of the MAC Tournament on Saturday.

Should W&L defeat Widener, it would face the winner of the game between second-seeded Washington College and Cabrini College in the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 11. If Washington wins that contest, the game would be played in Chestertown, Md.

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference claims two teams in the tournament as league runner-up Hampden-Sydney received an at-large bid and will host Salisbury University.

Below is the bracket for the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament:

Wednesday, May 8th
Western New England at No. 2 Ithaca
Clarkson at No. 3 Cortland
Eastern Connecticut State at No. 4 Whittier
New England College at No. 1 Middlebury

Wednesday, May 8th
Stevens Tech at No. 1 Gettysburg
Salisbury at No. 4 Hampden-Sydney
Widener at No. 3 Washington and Lee
Cabrini at No. 2 Washington College
