RUCKERT NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
Senior Earns Spot On Second Team
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior outside hitter
Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) was named to the Verizon
College Division Academic All-District Second Team that was announced
Friday morning.
Ruckert was one of 12 players honored on either the first or second
teams.
A management major, Ruckert carries a 3.27 overall GPA. Earlier this
week, Ruckert became the first volleyball player in W&L history
to garner all-region honors.
Ruckert is a four-time First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference
(ODAC) and three-time ODAC Player of the Year selection. She was named
to the All-ODAC Tournament team for the fourth straight year, earning
Tournament MVP honors for the third time. She led the Generals in 2001
by amassing a school-and ODAC-record 466 kills. She also notched 72
aces, 47 blocks and 288 digs.
Ruckert ended her career as a General as the all-time leader at W&L
in kills (1,519), hitting percentage (.323), attacks (3,464), service
aces (202) and games played (424). Her career kill total is also an
ODAC record.
Washington and Lee ended its season with a school-record 30 victories
against just five losses. The Generals captured the ODAC regular season
with a 10-0 record and won the ODAC Tournament title. W&L advanced
to the NCAA South Region semifinals before falling to 11th-ranked Emory
University.
The Verizon Academic All-District team includes players from small colleges
in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Ruckert
was the only player from the ODAC to make the squad.
