Senior Earns Spot On Second Team

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior outside hitter Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) was named to the Verizon College Division Academic All-District Second Team that was announced Friday morning.

Ruckert was one of 12 players honored on either the first or second teams.

A management major, Ruckert carries a 3.27 overall GPA. Earlier this week, Ruckert became the first volleyball player in W&L history to garner all-region honors.

Ruckert is a four-time First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and three-time ODAC Player of the Year selection. She was named to the All-ODAC Tournament team for the fourth straight year, earning Tournament MVP honors for the third time. She led the Generals in 2001 by amassing a school-and ODAC-record 466 kills. She also notched 72 aces, 47 blocks and 288 digs.

Ruckert ended her career as a General as the all-time leader at W&L in kills (1,519), hitting percentage (.323), attacks (3,464), service aces (202) and games played (424). Her career kill total is also an ODAC record.

Washington and Lee ended its season with a school-record 30 victories against just five losses. The Generals captured the ODAC regular season with a 10-0 record and won the ODAC Tournament title. W&L advanced to the NCAA South Region semifinals before falling to 11th-ranked Emory University.

The Verizon Academic All-District team includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Ruckert was the only player from the ODAC to make the squad.
