PAUL WALLACE GARNERS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
Senior Earns Spot On Third Team
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior sweeper Paul
Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) was named to the Division III NSCAA/Adidas
Men's Soccer Third-Team All America squad on Friday morning. The NSCAA/Adidas
All-America teams are voted on by members of the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America.
Wallace, who was a Second-Team selection as a junior, is the first W&L
player in school history to earn a repeat selection on the All-America
squad.
Wallace spearheaded a W&L defense that allowed just 1.1 goals per
game. He started all 17 games for the Generals and tallied six points
on two goals and two assists. Wallace scored the lone goal in a 1-0
victory over Hampden-Sydney in the ODAC semifinals. In his four years
with the W&L soccer program, Wallace recorded a total of 26 points
on eight goals and 10 assists.
W&L finished the season with an overall record of 12-4-1 and won
the ODAC regular season championship with an 8-1 conference record.
The Generals saw their season come to an end in the ODAC Championship,
as they were defeated by Roanoke, 3-2.
Wallace was named the ODAC Player of the Year for the 2001 season. He
also earned a spot on the All-ODAC First-Team for the third time in
his career. As a freshman, Wallace earned the ODAC Rookie of the Year
award.
