FOUR GENERALS NAMED TO ALL-ODAC FIELD HOCKEY TEAM
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team
claimed two members on the All-ODAC squad in addition to the ODAC Coach
of the Year.
Sophomore midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines)
was named to the First Team All-ODAC squad, while junior midfielder Maitena
Moure (Mar Del Plata, Argentina/Holy Trinity) was named Second Team All-ODAC.
Junior forward Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and freshman
defender Katharine Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) were both placed
on the honorable mention squad, while Second-year Head Coach Wendy Orrison
was named the Coach of the Year.
Murphy started all 19 games and led the team in scoring
with 18 points on five goals and a team-high eight assists. Murphy was
named to the Honorable Mention All-ODAC squad in 2001.
Moure also started all 19 games, and was second on the team
with five assists. She also recorded four goals for a career-high 13 points.
Taffe played in 18 games with 16 starts, tallying 16 points
on six goals and one assist. Taffe earned Second Team All-ODAC honors
Lester played in all 19 games with nine starts. She assisted
on one goal and helped spearhead a W&L defense which allowed an average
of just 1.72 goals per game.
Orrison garnered the ODAC Coach of the Year award after
leading the Generals to a 10-9 overall record, 6-3 in the ODAC. Orrison
guided W&L to an ODAC Tournament semifinal berth after leading the
program to a 3-10 overall mark in 2001, its first full varsity season
in the ODAC.
