BOGART, PROKO AND HAGERMAN EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
HONORS
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee had three athletes
named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District III Women's At-Large Team
which was announced on May 22. Senior women's lacrosse player Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton)
and a pair of women's tennis players, senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence
Day) and sophomore Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), were
all second team selections. Bogart, an English major who carries a 3.50 GPA, helped
lead W&L to a 15-3 record overall, its fifth conference title and
a berth in the NCAA Tournament. She was the Generals' second-leading scorer
this season with 66 points on 23 goals and a W&L single-season school-record
43 assists. The Second Team All-ODAC selection graduates tied for the
program-lead with 230 career points on 94 goals and a W&L-best 136
assists. A neuroscience major, Proko has a 3.68 GPA. The six-time
All-American helped lead the Generals' women's tennis team to a school-record
24 wins and runner-up finish in the NCAA Tournament this season. An All-American
in both singles and doubles this season, Proko will graduate from W&L
with a 92-20 mark in singles and 104-27 in doubles. The program's all-time
leader in doubles wins, she teamed with Hagerman to post a single-season
school-record 30 wins and form the nation's top-ranked doubles duo this
year. She reached the semifinals in both singles and doubles at the NCAA
Tournament. Hagerman, a history major, has a 3.60 GPA. The ITA Co-National
Rookie of the Year in 2002, she compiled records of 26-4 in singles and
30-2 in doubles this season. She earned All-American honors for the second
and third time after reaching the singles and doubles semifinals in the
NCAA Tournament in 2003. The Verizon Academic All-District team includes players
from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia
