W&L CLAIMS ODAC COMMISSIONER'S CUP SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee athletic program captured
the 2003 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Commissioner's Cup for overall
excellence, marking the seventh time in nine years that the Generals have
claimed the best overall program in the conference. W&L also won the
men's overall cup for the eighth straight time and finished second in
the women's overall cup. W&L finished the combined cup race with 121.5 points,
the highest overall score since the award was first presented following
the 1994-95 season. Roanoke was second with 113.0 points, followed by
Lynchburg (107.0), Bridgewater (92.5), Virginia Wesleyan (77.5), Randolph-Macon
(75.0), Eastern Mennonite (73.0), Guilford (64.0), Hampden-Sydney (52.0),
Emory & Henry (52.0), Hollins (24.0), Sweet Briar (20.0) and Randolph-Macon
Woman's College (19.0). In the men's cup race, W&L totaled 53.0 points, one
point better than the second place finisher, Hamdpen-Sydney. Bridgewater
was third with 44.0 points. In the women's cup race, Roanoke was a repeat winner with
72.5 points. The Generals were second with 68.5 points, followed by Lynchburg
with 64.0 points. Washington and Lee's 23 varsity sports combined to post
a 190-114-5 (.626) overall record and captured six ODAC Championships,
including volleyball, women's soccer, women's swimming, women's lacrosse,
