W&L NAMES NATHAN HOEY FITNESS CENTER DIRECTOR &
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Athletic Director Mike Walsh has
announced the appointment of Nathan Hoey as W&L's new Fitness Center
Director and Strength Coach. Hoey will begin his appointment in late July.
"The entire Washington and Lee community is looking forward to the
opening this fall of our new 10,000 square foot fitness center,"
said Walsh. "We have in Nate Hoey the right person to bring the facility
on-line and provide balanced services and instruction to all our user
groups; students, faculty, staff, athletes and recreational users. Nate
is excited to be able make his mark on the W&L community in a brand
new state-of-the-art facility."
"This is a tremendous opportunity," said Hoey. "The new
fitness center is going to be a great place for the university community
to join in recreational health and fitness activities. I am also eager
to begin working with the exceptional coaching staff and student-athletes
at Washington and Lee."
Hoey comes to Washington and Lee following one year as the Wellness Director
at the Brandywine Square YMCA in Downingtown, Pa. While there, his responsibilities
included supervision of a staff, performing fitness evaluations, budgeting,
equipment purchasing, equipment maintenance and developing wellness programs.
Hoey also served as a Speed, Agility and Quickness Director for Lightning
Fast Training Systems, an athletic performance company, in Downingtown
from May of 2000 until September of 2001. He had also been an assistant
track and field and cross country coach at West Chester University since
November of 2000.
A native of Drexel Hill, Pa., Hoey graduated from Slippery Rock University
in August of 2000 with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science.
While at Slippery Rock, Hoey was a four-year member of the track and field
team. Hoey helped lead The Rock to three conference titles while earning
all-conference honors 13 times and being named to the conference's scholar-athlete
team all four years.
Hoey is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and is a member
of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
