W&L FINISHES 39TH IN NACDA DIRECTOR'S CUP STANDINGS LEXINGTON, Va. -- The National Association of Collegiate
Director's of Athletics (NACDA) recently announced the final 2003 Director's
Cup Standings and Washington and Lee University ranked 39th on the Division
III list. The Director's Cup is presented annually by NACDA to the
best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country. The standings
are tallied by a school's performances in the NCAA National Championships.
Stanford University was the Division I winner, The University of California-Davis
was the Division II winner, while Williams College was the Division III
recipient. The Generals, bolstered by the women's tennis team's runner-up
finish in the NCAA Division III Tournament, compiled 291.0 points for
the year to rank 39th overall and third among schools from the State of
Virginia. Mary Washington ranked 19th, while Christopher Newport was 33rd. Other ODAC schools making the list were Lynchburg (74),
Hampden-Sydney (99), Randolph-Macon (127), Roanoke (139), Bridgewater
(188), Emory & Henry (211), Virginia Wesleyan (211) and Guilford (232). W&L's 23 varsity sports combined to win six Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships during the 2002-03 season. Overall, the Generals posted a 190-114-5 (.626) record. -- GENERALS -- |
