W&L Men Picked To Finish Fourth; Women Tabbed To Finish Fifth

Defending long jump champion Chris Sullivan

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's track and field teams were picked to finish fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll which was released on Tuesday.

On the men's side, five-time defending ODAC champ Lynchburg is the preseason favorite, garnering four first-place votes. Following the Hornets are Bridgewater (one first-place vote), Eastern Mennonite and Roanoke and Washington and Lee in a tie for fourth.

Leading the Generals returnees is senior co-captain Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights). Last year Sullivan won the long jump (6.69 meters), finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.20), fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.55) and seventh in the javelin (41.87 meters).

Roanoke, the defending ODAC champion, is the coaches' preseason No. 1 after having received four first-place votes. Tabbed second is Lynchburg (one first-place vote), followed by Eastern Mennonite, Bridgewater and W&L.

Returning to lead W&L are junior co-captain Erin Johnson (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) and sophomore co-captain Meredith Walker (Travelers Rest, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal).

The Generals season continues this Saturday when both teams travel to Roanoke for the Maroon Invitational.
