BRYAN SNYDER NAMED VaSID COACH OF THE YEAR
DANVILLE, Va. -- Washington and Lee Head Volleyball Coach Bryan Snyder
was named the Virginia College Division Coach of the Year in voting conducted
by the Virginia Sports Information Director's Association (VaSID). Additionally, W&L had three players recognized on the all-state team
led by sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier
Prep) who earned first team honors. Freshman middle blocker Susan Gaillard
(Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) and freshman setter Christine Gladysz (Palm
Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) both earned second team accolades. Snyder led the Generals to a 32-8 overall record and an Old Dominion
Athletic Conference Championship during the 2002 season. W&L advanced
to the NCAA Division III Tournament where it fell to Trinity (Texas) in
the South Region Semifinals. In three seasons at W&L, Snyder has compiled
an 82-23 (.781) overall record and two ODAC Championships. His career
record is 123-48 (.719) over five seasons. Chastain had one of the finest seasons ever at W&L, setting a new
school record with 475 kills. She also tallied 360 digs, 82 service aces
and 56 blocks in earning First Team All-ODAC honors. Gaillard was named Second Team All-ODAC, Honorable Mention All-South
Region and ODAC Rookie of the Year after totaling 385 kills and 106 blocks.
Her .385 hitting percentage was the second-highest in school history. Gladysz, who began the season at libero, moved to setter following the
18th match of the season and earned her way to ODAC Tournament MVP honors.
She tallied the second-highest dig total (419) and the third-highest assist
total (841) in school history while also contributing 53 kills, 49 service
aces and 48 blocks. Sweet Briar junior outside hitter Briana Beckham was named the VaSID
College Division Player of the Year. -- GENERALS --
