LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Sports Information Director's Association (VaSID) announced its 2003 College Division All-State Women's Lacrosse team on Thursday morning and Washington and Lee claimed three members of the first and second team.

Senior defender Sarah Janowitz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was named to the first team, while junior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and junior goalkeeper Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) were second team selections. Longwood's Emily Bikowski and Janet Grubbs were named the VaSID Player and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Janowitz was named to the first team after garnering ODAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Region and Second Team All-America honors. She was the leader of a W&L defense which allowed an average of just 6.83 goals per game, the 13th-best total in Division III.

Taffe was a second team selection after leading W&L in scoring with 57 goals and 18 assists. A 2003 First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-Region selection, she is third all-time in scoring at W&L with 168 points (126 goals, 42 assists).

Perini was also placed on the second team after garnering First Team All-ODAC and Second Team All-Region honors. She ranked 12th in Division III with a 6.90 goals-against average while compiling a .541 save percentage.

The Generals finished the 2003 season with a 15-3 overall record. W&L's 15 wins tied the school record and all were in succession, another school-best. The Generals won the ODAC title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament were they fell to Mary Washington, 12-7, in the second round.
