SIX GENERALS GARNER ALL-ODAC HONORS IN WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Janowitz Named Player Of The Year; Hathorn Coach Of The Year

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Six members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team earned spots on the All-ODAC team which was announced Monday afternoon. Moreover, senior defender Sarah Janowitz (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was named ODAC Player of the Year, while Head Coach Jan Hathorn was named ODAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time.

Janowitz was joined on the first team by a pair of juniors, goaltender Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), as well as sophomore midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's). Senior attacker Leslie Bogart (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) was named Second Team All-ODAC, while junior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) was an honorable mention selection.

For Janowitz, it was her third straight all-conference selection. This season, she has scooped up a team-best 65 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers while helping hold the Generals' opposition to an average of 6.53 goals per game. She is just W&L's third Player of the Year selection in the program's 15 seasons.

Perini, who was an Honorable Mention All-America selection in 2001, earned All-ODAC honors for the first time after posting a goals-against average of 6.60 and a save percentage of .545.

Taffe, a second team honoree last season, leads the Generals in scoring with 72 points on 55 goals and 17 assists. Earlier this year, she was named the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week. Murphy, a first-time selection, has scored 17 points on 14 goals and three assists and is second on the team in ground balls (50) and caused-turnovers (19).

Second team selection Bogart is W&L's all-time leader in assists (136) and trails all-time points leader Lisa Dowling '93 by just three tallies. This season, she has broken her own W&L record for assists in a season (43) and is second on the team with 63 points. Wheeler, a first teamer in 2001, has scored 47 points (34 goals, 13 assists).

Fifteenth-year mentor Hathorn led the Generals (15-2) to their fifth ODAC title and fourth berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. On the way, they tied the mark for wins in a season (15) and have established a new standard for consecutive wins (15). Ranked 10th in the country, W&L faces Mary Washington on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at The College of New Jersey.
