Generals Move Up Two Spots After Win Over Bridgewater

Junior Forward Susannah Hewlett

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team has attained its highest-ever national ranking in the November 4 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III poll. The Generals, who are also ranked second in the NCAA South Region, moved up two spots to No. 14 following a 2-0 win over Bridgewater on Saturday in the first round of the ODAC Tournament.

After dropping its season-opener, W&L is undefeated in its last 17 matches and has tied the 1997 squad's record for wins in a season with 14. Overall, the Generals are 14-1-3, including an 9-1-2 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

For the season, W&L has posted eight shutouts in outscoring its opposition, 70-13. Led by sophomore forward Molly Plummer (New Orleans, La./Sacred Heart), who leads the team with 32 points on 13 goals and six assists, five different members of the team have accumulated at least 22 points for the season.

Following their quarterfinal win on Saturday, the Generals have advanced to the semifinal round of the ODAC Tournament for the 14th consecutive season, where they will try to avenge their only loss of the season against Virginia Wesleyan this Friday at 2:00 pm. The match will be played at tournament-host Roanoke College.
