Proko Named Player Of The Year; Rankin Coach Of The Year

Senior Erika Proko, the 2003 ODAC Player of the Year

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Each of the seven members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Washington and Lee women's tennis team earned first team all-conference honors. Further, senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while Head Coach Cinda Rankin was named the ODAC Coach of the Year for the 10th time.

Joining Proko on the first team were seniors Laura Bruno (Roswell, Ga./Chattahoochee) and Brandi Jane Wedgeworth (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Christian), junior Elizabeth Law (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin), sophomore Lora Farris (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and freshmen Megan Curran (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) and Lisa Mabry (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary’s Episcopal).

Proko was named ODAC Player of the Year after going 22-3 in singles action this season. A three-time selection in both singles and doubles, she is currently ranked No. 1 in the country in doubles and No. 9 in singles.

Bruno earned first team honors after compiling a 16-2 singles mark, including 10-0 at No. 2. She has earned All-ODAC honors in both singles and doubles three times.

Wedgeworth went 19-3 overall this season, including 9-2 at No. 4 singles, to earn her third singles selection.

Mabry's 22-2 mark overall, including her 8-2 mark at No. 5, earned her all-conference laurels.

Law went 22-3 overall, and 8-2 at No. 6 singles, to earn a spot on the all-conference team. She has been named All-ODAC twice in both singles and doubles.

Curran compiled a 10-0 mark overall, 4-0 at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Bruno and Mabry were named First Team All-ODAC performers after putting together a 13-2 record overall.

Law and Farris went 8-1 on the season. It was Farris' second consecutive All-ODAC selection.

Proko and Wedgeworth were 3-0 as a doubles tandem.

In her 15th as the Generals' coach, Rankin has led the team to a 22-1 record, a No. 2 national ranking and its 13th ODAC championship.
