TAFFE AND MURPHY GARNER ALL-STATE RECOGNITION
Taffe Earns First-Team Honors

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Two members of the Washington and
Lee field hockey team were honored as selections to the Virginia Sports
Information Directors Association (VaSID) College Division All-State Field
Hockey Team, which was announced Tuesday afternoon.
Senior forward Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) was named
to the first team while junior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./Saint
Catherines(Va.)) makes her second straight appearance as an Honorable
Mention all-state pick.
Taffe, who earned First Team All-ODAC and Second Team All-South Region
honors, started all 19 games and finished third in the conference with
a school-record 19 goals. Her 38 points were also a W&L season record
and placed fifth in the ODAC. Taffe finishes her career as the school
record holder for goals in a game (3), goals in a season (19), goals in
a career (34), points in a game (6), points in a season (38) and points
in a career (72).
Murphy earned an honorable mention laurels after playing in 19 games with
18 starts and earning Second Team All-ODAC honors. She finished the season
fourth on the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists.
Washington and Lee ended the year with a 10-9 overall record and a 6-3
mark in the ODAC. The Generals were the third seed for the ODAC Tournament,
advancing to the semifinals before falling to eventual-champion, Eastern
Mennonite, 5-0.
