W&L WOMEN'S TENNIS SEEDED SIXTH IN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
Generals Face Gustavus Adolphus in Quarterfinals
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's
tennis team earned the sixth-seed in the upcoming NCAA Championships,
to be held on May 12-14 at Rhodes College and the Racquet Club of Memphis
in Memphis, Tenn. The Generals will face fourth-seeded Gustavus Adolphus
(25-7) on Wed., May 12, at 10:00 a.m.
Washington and Lee advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Mary
Washington, 7-0, in round one and Swarthmore, 7-2, in round two of the
tournament, hosted by W&L on May 1-2.
In addition, junior Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and
freshmen Kristen McClung (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) and Ginny
Wortham (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) have been selected to compete in the
singles and doubles championships, to be held May 15-17.
Hagerman (27-4) and McClung (20-6) qualified for singles competition,
while Hagerman and Wortham (16-2) are set to compete in doubles action.
Washington and Lee (23-3), which finished its 2003 season as the Division
III runner-up, is participating in the 2004 tournament after winning its
13th ODAC Championship in the last 14 years.
