KIM, RITTER EARN CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS
VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Washington and Lee seniors Austin Kim (Richmond,
Va./Clover Hill) and Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) have
both been named to the 10-member CoSIDA College Division At-Large Academic
All-District III squad on Thursday morning. The team was voted on by members
of the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America. Kim earned the award for the second straight year after
carrying a 3.87 grade-point average as a Chemistry and French major. In
addition, he helped lead the Generals' men's tennis team to an overall
record of 16-8 and a No. 10 ranking in Division III. W&L won the ODAC
Tournament title and advanced to the Atlantic South Regional where it
fell to top-ranked Emory University, 5-2. A two-year team captain, Kim played predominantly at No.
6 singles and No. 1 doubles, earning First Team All-ODAC honors in each
for the third time in his four seasons. The 2004 ODAC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete
of the Year, he notched a 17-8 mark in singles and a 13-11 record in doubles
in 2004, and ends his career with records of 59-36 in singles and 57-35
in doubles. A biology and classics major, Ritter claims a 3.879 cumulative
grade-point average and plans on attending medical school at the University
of Alabama-Birmingham. Earlier this spring, he was awarded the prestigious
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. As a swimmer, Ritter qualified for the NCAA Championships
all four years, earning All-America honors five times. A four-time College
Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-American,
Ritter will graduate holding school records in the 100 backstroke (51.07),
200 backstroke (1:51.91), 200 medley relay (1:36.12) and 400 medley relay
(3:30.18). As a senior, Ritter led W&L to a 7-0 record and a Bluegrass
Mountain Conference Championship. A First Team All-Bluegrass Mountain
Conference selection, Ritter finished seventh in the 100 back and 13th
in the 200 back at the 2004 NCAA Championships. The CoSIDA College Division District III At-Large team consists of athletes from Division II and Division III schools in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. With their selections to the all-district Team, Kim and Ritter will proceed to the national ballot for consideration for Academic All-America honors. -- GENERALS -- |
