EIGHT GENERALS NAMED TO NFHCA NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD
W&L Among 68 Teams Also Honored

GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- Eight members of the Washington and Lee field hockey team were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad which was released on Tuesday afternoon. Additionally, the Generals were one of 68 Division III teams which received the National Academic Team award.

Sophomore midfielder Jane Beall (Midlothian, Va./James River), junior forward Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville), sophomore goalie Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate), sophomore defender Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends), junior defender Kyle Meehan (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury), junior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherines), junior midfielder Erin Rathbone (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) and freshman defender Amy Volkmann (Norfolk, Va./Granby) were all honored for achieving a grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2003-04 academic year.

As a team, the Generals were among 68 squads from Division III which fit the criteria of having a team grade-point average of at-least 3.0. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) led the way with a 3.62 team GPA.

Washington and Lee completed the 2003 season with a 10-9 overall record, 6-3 in the ODAC. The Generals advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament before falling to Eastern Mennonite, 5-0.
