DEAN NAMED TO VaSID ALL-STATE BASEBALL TEAM
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Senior pitcher Peter Dean (Vienna,
Va./James Madison) has been named to the 2004 Virginia Sports Information
Directors Association (VaSID) College Division All-State Baseball Team
which was announced on Friday afternoon. Dean was the only General honored on the team, marking the
second straight season he has claimed first team all-state accolades from
the association. Dean adds the honor to a trophy case which includes First
Team All-ODAC, First Team All-South Region, First Team Academic All-State,
First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District, Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-America,
ODAC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and ODAC Pitcher of the Year
honors from this spring. On the mound in 2004, Dean set a school record for season
wins, going 9-2 with three saves. He posted a 2.33 ERA in a school-record
88.2 innings, and struck out 64 with only 11 walks. Dean finished his
four seasons with an ODAC- and school-record 29 wins against just seven
losses and a school-record 2.20 ERA. He also set new W&L records for
career strikeouts (232), career appearances (54) and innings pitched (290.2).
Longwood outfielder Brian Medley was named the VaSID Player
of the Year, while Virginia Wesleyan's Nick Boothe was named the Coach
of the Year. Washington and Lee finished the 2004 season with a 21-16 overall record, 11-7 in the ODAC. The Generals advanced to the ODAC Tournament Championship game, before falling to Virginia Wesleyan, 12-8. -- GENERALS -- |
