PETER DEAN NAMED CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Washington and Lee senior left hander Peter
Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was placed on the Second Team CoSIDA
Academic All-America College Division Baseball squad which was announced
on Tuesday afternoon. Dean's appointment to the Academic All-America team was
his second in as many years, marking W&L's first two-time Academic
All-American since Nathan Hottle '97 received the award in 1996 and 1997. Dean earned the award after setting a school-record for
victories in a season, going 9-2 with three saves and a 2.33 earned-run
average (ERA) this spring. He also notched 64 strikeouts and just 11 walks
in a school-record 88.2 innings of work. He was named the Old Dominion
Athletic Conference (ODAC) Pitcher of the Year and garnered First Team
All-ODAC honors for the third straight season. For his career, Dean set numerous school and conference
records. He finished his four seasons with an ODAC- and school-record
29 wins against just seven losses and a school-record 2.20 ERA. He also
set new W&L records for career strikeouts (232), career appearances
(54) and innings pitched (290.2). Washington and Lee finished the 2004 season with a 21-16
overall record and a runner-up finish in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference
Tournament. Dean's selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team
was the 36th in school history and the second this season. Senior women's
soccer player Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) garnered
third team honors in the fall. The CoSIDA College Division consists of athletes from all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools across the United States. -- GENERALS -- |
