Senior Pitcher Named to Second Team

Senior Pitcher Peter Dean

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Washington and Lee senior left hander Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was placed on the Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Baseball squad which was announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Dean's appointment to the Academic All-America team was his second in as many years, marking W&L's first two-time Academic All-American since Nathan Hottle '97 received the award in 1996 and 1997.

Dean earned the award after setting a school-record for victories in a season, going 9-2 with three saves and a 2.33 earned-run average (ERA) this spring. He also notched 64 strikeouts and just 11 walks in a school-record 88.2 innings of work. He was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Pitcher of the Year and garnered First Team All-ODAC honors for the third straight season.

For his career, Dean set numerous school and conference records. He finished his four seasons with an ODAC- and school-record 29 wins against just seven losses and a school-record 2.20 ERA. He also set new W&L records for career strikeouts (232), career appearances (54) and innings pitched (290.2).

Washington and Lee finished the 2004 season with a 21-16 overall record and a runner-up finish in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.

Dean's selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team was the 36th in school history and the second this season. Senior women's soccer player Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) garnered third team honors in the fall.

The CoSIDA College Division consists of athletes from all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools across the United States.
