W&L ATHLETICS RECEIVES ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Generals Among Top DIII Schools in Graduation Award
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Washington and Lee recently received the 2003 USA
Today/NCAA Academic Achievement Award for placing among the Top 10 schools
in Division III for student-athlete graduate rates.
W&L tied for sixth overall, graduating 92 percent of its student-athlete
enrollment. Last year, the Generals placed eighth overall
with a 90 percent graduation rate.
The University of New England ranked first with a 100 percent graduation
rate, followed by Scranton (97%), Wellesley (96%), Marywood (95%), Middlebury
(95%), W&L (92%), St. Benedict (92%), Rosemont (92%), Carleton (91%)
and Johns Hopkins (91%).
The study is for freshmen who entered school in the fall of 1996, allowing
six years to graduate.
