Former Limestone Assistant Boasts Two National Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee athletic director Mike Walsh has announced the appointment of Michael Sessa as assistant men's lacrosse coach. Sessa will begin his duties effective immediately.

"Mike Sessa brings a great deal of playing and coaching experience to our lacrosse program," said Walsh. "We are pleased that he will have a chance to work as the offensive coordinator for our perennially strong lacrosse team."

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the W&L athletic department and men's lacrosse program," said Sessa. "I'm very much looking forward to working with the players and I'm eager to begin working towards the upcoming season."

Sessa comes to Washington and Lee after two stints as an assistant coach at Limestone College.

Sessa served as an assistant coach for the Saints under Cerino from 1993-2000, culminating in a Division II National Championship during the 2000 season. As offensive coordinator, he helped Limestone lead the nation in total goals (314), goals per game (19.6) and scoring margin (13.1).

Sessa then coached with Cerino at Charlotte Latin School for the 2001 season before returning to Limestone for the 2002 season, again leading the Saints to the Division II National Championship.

"Mike is a proven coach and recruiter with national championship experience," said W&L Head Coach Mike Cerino. "He brings a meticulous and detailed approach to coaching that will definitely be a great benefit to our program. I'm looking forward to having him work with our offensive players in preparation for the 2004 season."

Sessa holds two bachelor's degrees from Limestone, one in business (1993) and one in physical education (2002).

As a player, Sessa was a three-year captain and Team MVP during the 1991 season. He finished his career ranked second on the program's all-time scoring list.
