THREE GENERALS EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT LAURELS
HIRAM, Ohio -- Washington and Lee senior Andy Schorr (Kingwood,
Texas/Kingwood) and juniors Steven Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara
Area) and Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) have been
named to the 10-member CoSIDA College Division Men's Cross Country and
Track Academic All-District III squad which was released on Thursday morning.
The team was voted on by members of the Collegiate Sports Information
Directors of America. Schorr earned the award after compiling a 3.442 cumulative
grade-point average (GPA) as a politics and East Asian studies major.
As a member of the W&L cross country team, Schorr garnered First Team
All-ODAC and ODAC Runner of the Year honors back in the fall after winning
the ODAC Championship meet (28:11.00). Additionally, he earned all-region
honors for the third time in his career by finishing 11th at the 2003
NCAA South/Southeast Regional with a time of 26:53.84. Chambers is a business major who carries a 3.836 cumulative
GPA. In cross country, he was named the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
and garnered Second Team All-ODAC honors after finishing 11th at the ODAC
Championship meet with a time of 29:49.00. He also earned First Team All-State
honors by placing fourth at the state championship meet with a time of
27:58. In track, Chambers placed third in the 5,000 meter run at the ODAC
Outdoor Championship meet (16:08.95) and ranked among the top four in
the ODAC all season in the 1,500 and 5,000 meter runs. Johnson is a mathmatics and economics major and carries
a 3.668 cumulative GPA. As a track athlete, he garnered First Team All-ODAC
honors in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters by winning both events at
the ODAC Outdoor Championships. He was named the Co-Athlete of the Meet
for his efforts, W&L's first athlete of the meet in 10 years. He also
claimed Second Team All-ODAC honors in the indoor two mile run, finishing
third at the conference championships with a time of 9:54.59. The CoSIDA College Division District III Men's Cross Country and Track team consists of athletes from Division II, III and NAIA schools in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. With their selections to the all-district team, all three athletes will proceed to the national ballot for consideration for Academic All-America honors. -- GENERALS -- |
