W&L VOLLEYBALL PLACES THREE ON ALL-STATE TEAM
Gaillard, Gladysz and Wolfing All Honored

Brian Snyder was named the VaSID Coach of the Year for the third straight season

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Virginia Sports Information Director's Association (VaSID) announced its College Division All-State Volleyball team on Friday afternoon. Three Washington and Lee players and Head Coach Bryan Snyder were among those honored.

Sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud), sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) were all selected to the six-member first team. Snyder was named the VaSID Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season, while Averett senior outside hitter Courtney Carrington was named the Player of the Year.

Gaillard adds the award to a laundry list of honors for the 2003 season. She has already been named First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-Region and Honorable Mention All-America. She totaled 452 kills, 100 blocks, 95 digs and 20 service aces, while setting a new school record and ranking ninth nationally for season hitting percentage (.423). After just two seasons, Gaillard already ranks seventh in school history with 837 career kills.

Gladysz is also one of the most decorated volleyball players in school history after just two seasons. A First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-Region and Third Team All-America selection, she ranked third nationally in assists per game (13.24) with a school- and ODAC-record 1,642 assists. In addition, she tallied a team-high 86 service aces, 399 digs, 92 kills and 72 blocks. A libero for half of her freshman season before moving to setter, Gladysz already holds the W&L career assist record with 2,483 assists.

Wolfing adds the all-state award to First Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-Region honors from earlier this season. The 2003 ODAC Tournament MVP, Wolfing led the Generals with 462 kills and a school-record 485 digs. She also totaled 50 service aces and 44 blocks, while posting a .278 hitting percentage. Wolfing will enter her senior season ranked second all-time at W&L in digs (1,145) and fifth all-time in kills (1,036).

Snyder's selection as the Virginia Coach of the Year supplimented an ODAC Coach of the Year award earlier this season. In four seasons at the helm, he has tallied a 117-27 (.813) overall record, three ODAC Championships and three berths to the NCAA Division III Tournament. In six seasons of coaching, he has compiled a 148-52 (.740) career record.

W&L finished the 2003 season with a school-record 35 wins against just four losses. The Generals won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference for the third straight season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament South Region Semifinals.
