THREE GENERALS NAMED TO WOMEN'S SOCCER ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer
team had three members named to the 12-player First Team CoSIDA Academic
All-District squad which was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior midfielder Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton
Regional), junior defender Kelley Zagol (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and sophomore
defender Heather Rogers (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) were all named to
the first team for their performances on the field and in the classroom.
They will all be placed on the national ballot and be eligible for Academic
Coleman, an economics and politics major with a 4.075 cumulative
grade-point average (GPA), has tallied seven points this season on two
goals and three assists. For her career, she claims 19 goals and six assists
and ranks eighth all-time at W&L with 44 points.
Zagol, a neuroscience major with a 3.53 GPA, anchors the
W&L defense which has allowed an average of just 0.47 goals per game.
The 2002 first team all-region performer has also recorded four goals
and one assist on the season.
Rogers joins Zagol on the defense and has notched one goal
and three assists on the season. She is an undeclared major with a 3.39
W&L is currently 14-1-2 overall and ranked 18th in
the latest NSCAA Division III poll. The Generals will face either Virginia
Wesleyan or Eastern Mennonite in the ODAC Championship game on Saturday
for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program
states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter
or important reserve and claim a GPA of at-least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Washington and Lee is a member of District III, including players from
small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and
