Both Athletes Selected to Second Team

Senior Kitt Murphy

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior women's tennis player Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and senior field hockey/lacrosse player Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./Saint Catherines) were named to the Second Team CoSIDA College Division At-Large Academic All-District III squad which was released on Friday afternoon. The team was voted on by members of the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.

Hagerman was selected to the second team after earning first team accolades a year ago. A history major with a 3.67 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), Hagerman is among the most decorated athletes in school history. On the tennis court, she is a seven-time All-American and the 2005 NCAA Division III Singles Champion. She finished the 2005 campaign with a school-record 37 singles wins (37-1) and went 26-5 in doubles while reaching the NCAA Semifinals. A three-time All-ODAC, two-time ODAC Player of the Year and two-time ODAC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Hagerman finished her career as the W&L all-time leader in singles (117-17) and doubles (108-18) victories. Additionally, Hagerman has been named the runner-up for the NCAA Walter Byers Scholarship, will receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, was named the ODAC Majorie Berkley Award winner as the league's top female scholar-athlete, was named the W&L Senior Female Athlete of the Year, and is a nominee for the Honda Award which is presented annually to the top female athlete in Division III.

Murphy was selected to the second team for the second straight season. A four-year letterwinner and team captain for both the field hockey and lacrosse teams, she carries a 3.78 cumulative GPA as a Russian studies and business major. In field hockey, Murphy garnered All-ODAC honors all four years and was a three-time All-State selection. She ranks second all-time at W&L with 15 assists and is third all-time with 19 goals and 53 points. In lacrosse, Murphy was a three-time All-ODAC and All-South Region honoree who garnered Third Team All-America honors in 2005. She graduates with 61 career points on 52 goals and nine assists.

The CoSIDA College Division District III At-Large team consists of athletes from NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA schools in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
