McCLURE AND SHAY EARN ALL-AMERICA HONORS
SKILLMAN, N.J. -- Washington and Lee senior Paul McClure
(Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) and junior David Shay (Martinez,
Ga./Augusta Prep) have earned All-America honors in doubles based upon
their final national ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
McClure and Shay were ranked ninth in the final ITA Division
III doubles rankings with each of the Top 10 doubles teams earning All-America
The duo become the first players from W&L to earn All-America
honors in doubles since Bill Meadows and Robby McNaughton earned All-America
accolades during the 1991 season.
McClure also earned All-America honors in singles during
the 2005 season and finished with a singles ranking of No. 16. A two-time
ODAC Player of the Year and the 2005 ODAC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete
of the Year and ODAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, McClure also claimed
All-America honors in singles during the 2004 season. He finished his
career with a 64-41 singles record and a 58-39 doubles mark.
Shay adds the All-America award to a resume which includes
being a three-time First Team All-ODAC honoree and singles All-American
in 2004. He will enter his senior season with a 60-21 career singles record
and a 35-21 career doubles record.
Washington and Lee finished the 2005 season with a 16-6
overall record and claimed its 10th straight ODAC Championship. The Generals
advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round before falling to second-ranked
Emory University, 4-0.
