W&L Also Among Top Academic Squads In Division III

Midfielder Kitt Murphy

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Washington and Lee placed three players on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll and was listed as an IWLCA Academic Team in an announcement made by the organization on Wednesday evening.

Senior goalie Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), and junior midfielders Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherines) and Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) were among 145 student-athletes reconized on the IWLCA Honor Roll. Additionally, Washington and Lee was among 39 Division III teams honored as an academic squad by compiling a team GPA of 3.00 or better.

Perini was a psychology and public policy major who recorded a 3.557 cumulative GPA. The ODAC Player and Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and an IWLCA Third Team All-American this past spring, Perini finished the season ranked in the Top 15 nationally in goals-against average (6.42) and save percentage (.593). She finished her career ranked second all-time at W&L in career saves (589) and career save percentage (.613).

Murphy is a Russian major who carries a 3.739 cumulative GPA. A two-time First Team All-ODAC selection, Murphy totaled nine goals, two assists, 23 draw controls and led W&L with 27 caused turnovers this spring.

Brown is a business administration major with a 3.790 cumulative GPA. A three-year starter in the midfield, she tallied six goals, four assists, 30 ground balls, caused 19 turnovers and collected 13 draw controls this past spring.

Washington and Lee tied the school record for wins in a season after notching a 15-4 overall mark and finishing 7-1 in the ODAC. The Generals won the ODAC title and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second-straight season before falling to Gettysburg, 13-8, in the second-round.
