Generals' Lax Coaches Will be Inducted Into Limestone Hall of Fame

Mike Cerino

Mike Sessa

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Mike Cerino and Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach Mike Sessa are set for induction into the Limestone College Athletic Hall of Fame in a campus ceremony on Saturday afternoon in Gaffney, S.C.

Cerino coached the Saints from 1989-2000, winning the school's first NCAA Division II Lacrosse Championship in 2000. His squads won the Deep South Conference Championship on three occasions and he was named the DSC Coach of the Year following the 1994 and 1998 campaigns. The 2000 NCAA Division II Coach of the Year, Cerino posted a 80-56 (.588) overall record at Limestone.

"Being selected to the Limestone Hall of Fame is a great honor," said Cerino. "Having started the program there and watching it grow has been a great experience and I'm happy that they are still enjoying success. My family and I are looking forward to sharing this occasion with many of the Limestone Community members."

Joining Cerino in the Limestone Hall of Fame Class of 2004 will be Generals' assistant coach Mike Sessa. A 1993 graduate of Limestone, Sessa was a three-year team captain as a player, garnering team MVP honors in 1991. He graduated as the program's second all-time leading scorer before moving on to the coaching ranks where he assisted the Saints from 1993-2002. During his time coaching, Sessa

helped lead the Saints to four Deep South Championships and two National Championships (2000, 2002).

"It's an honor to be recognized by my alma mater," said Sessa. "I'm very much looking forward to seeing my old classmates and teammates this weekend. What makes this all really special is to go into the Hall of Fame with Coach Cerino, who has been a mentor to me from day one."

Since arriving at Washington and Lee prior to the 2002 season, Cerino has led the Generals to a pair of ODAC Championships and two NCAA Division III playoff appearances. His 2002 squad finished 14-4 overall and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals. His 2004 team also posted a 14-4 mark and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion, Salisbury University.

Sessa joined the W&L coaching staff as offensive coordinator prior to the 2004 campaign and helped the Generals' offense average 10.2 goals per game.
