Rachael Slocum

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee athletic director Mike Walsh has announced the appointment of Rachael Slocum as assistant women's soccer coach. Slocum begins her duties in mid-August.

Slocum comes to W&L after earning three letters in soccer and two in rowing at Southern Methodist University. A goalkeeper for the soccer team, Slocum participated on three Western Athletic Conference Championship teams and helped the Mustangs to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a "Sweet 16" showing in 1999. In rowing, she was a starboard rower and competed in the top eight varsity boats for three seasons.

While at SMU, Slocum served as a volunteer goalie coach at Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas, helping the team to the district championship and a third round showing in Texas State Playoffs. Additionally, Slocum has served as an instructor and counselor at the SMU Soccer Camp and the Kanakuk Christian Sports Camp in Branson, Mo.

A 2004 graduate of SMU with a bachelor of science degree in sociology and a bachelor of arts degree in religious studies, Slocum was a President of the SMU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a member of the SMU Athletics Council, SMU Athletic Affairs Committee and WAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

A native of Irvine, Calif., Slocum led her club team to the state championship finals and the Mater Dei High School soccer team to the California State Semifinals in 1998.
