FIVE W&L WOMEN'S LAXERS NAMED TO SOUTH ATLANTIC
REGION TEAM
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse
team had five players selected to the IWLCA/US Lacrosse Division III All-South
Atlantic Region team, which was released on Thursday. Senior midfielders
Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and Kitt Murphy (New York,
N.Y./St. Catherines) and senior defender Maggie Speasmaker (Charlottesville,
Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) were named to the first team, while junior attacker
Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and junior defender
Rachel Wallick (Phoenix, Md./Notre Dame Prep) earned second team honors.
Brown, a First Team All-ODAC selection and ODAC Player of
the Year, scored 10 goals on the season, including the game-winner in
a 6-5 win over Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Championship Game. She also
ranked among the team leaders with 47 ground balls, 19 draw controls,
and 16 caused turnovers. Murphy, who was also a first team all-region honoree as
a sophomore, collected nine points on six goals and three assists. She
was second on the team with 52 ground balls and third with 18 draw controls.
Murphy was also a Second Team All-ODAC performer in 2005 after earning
First Team All-ODAC accolades the previous two years. Speasmaker, who was a First Team All-ODAC selection, tallied
five points on three goals and two assists and her 22 caused turnovers
were second on the squad. Speasmaker also helped the Generals to a No.
7 national ranking in scoring defense, allowing just 6.10 goals per game. Strickler, who earned First Team All-ODAC accolades, led
the team in scoring with 51 points on 25 goals and a team-high 26 assists.
She notched three points on two goals and one assist in an 11-9 win over
No. 4 Amherst in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Wallick, who earned First Team All-ODAC honors this season
after being named to the Second Team as a sophomore, led the team with
23 caused turnovers and was among the team leaders with 40 ground balls.
She also helped the Generals to a No. 7 national ranking in scoring defense. W&L finished the season with a 15-4 overall record,
8-0 in the ODAC, and a No. 13 national ranking. The Generals won their
third consecutive ODAC Championship and defeated No. 4 Amherst, 11-9,
in the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 1 Salisbury,
15-4, in the NCAA quarterfinals. --GENERALS--
