TWO W&L WOMEN'S LAXERS NAMED TO NORTH-SOUTH ALL-STAR
ROSTER
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. -- Washington and Lee senior midfielder
Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and senior defender Maggie
Speasmaker (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) have been named
to the 2005 STX Farewell Lacrosse Festival Division III North-South Senior
All-Star game. The game will be played on Sat., June 4 at the University
of Maryland-Baltimore County at 11:00 am. Brown, a First Team All-ODAC selection and ODAC Player of
the Year, scored 10 goals this season, including the game-winner in a
6-5 win over Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Championship Game on Apr. 24.
She also tallied a goal in an 11-9 victory over No. 4 Amherst in the second
round of the NCAA Tournament on May 14, the Generals first-ever victory
in the NCAA Tournament. Brown finished second on the team with 19 draw
controls and was fifth in ground balls (47) and caused turnovers (16).
Brown played in 71 games with 69 starts during her career and finished
with 44 points on 33 goals and 11 assists. Speasmaker earned First Team All-ODAC accolades after spearheading
a W&L defense that finished fifth in the nation in scoring defense
(6.10 gpg). On the offensive end, she tallied three goals and two assists,
including a goal in the 11-9 victory over Amherst. Speasmaker finished
second on the team with 22 caused turnovers and was third with 49 ground
balls. Speasmaker saw action in 71 games with 42 starts in her career
and recorded 21 points on 13 goals and eight assists. Washington and Lee concluded the season with a 15-4 overall
record, 8-0 in the ODAC and won its third consecutive ODAC Championship.
The 13th-ranked Generals also made their third straight appearance in
the NCAA Tournament and defeated No. 4 Amherst, 11-9, before falling to
No. 1 Salisbury, 15-4, in the NCAA Quarterfinals. --GENERALS--
