W&L's HAGERMAN NAMED ITA NATIONAL SENIOR PLAYER
OF THE YEAR
SKILLMAN, N.J. -- Washington and Lee senior Lindsay Hagerman
(Wichita Falls, Texas/Highland Park) has been named the 2005 Wilson/Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) National Senior Player of the Year. Additionally,
17th-year head coach Cinda Rankin was named the National Coach of the
Year. Hagerman, who was also named the ITA Atlantic South Region
Senior Player of the Year, is currently 31-1 in singles and 26-3 in doubles
this season and has helped the Generals to their third consecutive ODAC
Championship and third overall appearance in the NCAA Division III National
Championship match. Hagerman, a two-time ODAC Player of the Year and a
six-time All-American, captured the ITA Division III National Singles
Championships in the fall and was the ITA Co-National Rookie of the Year
in 2002. Hagerman also holds the W&L all-time record for singles (111-17)
and doubles (108-16) victories. Rankin, a 10-time ODAC Coach of the Year, earned her second
ITA National Coach of the Year award after garnering ITA Atlantic South
Coach of the Year honors. She helped lead the Generals to their 15th ODAC
Championship and 13th NCAA Tournament appearance this season. She has
also directed W&L to its third appearance in the NCAA National Championship
match. Rankin guided the Generals to NCAA runner-up finishes in both the
1996 and 2003 seasons and to a school-record 24 wins in both the 2003
and 2004 campaigns. Rankin's career record stands at 330-54 (.859). The top-seeded Generals return to action against Emory University
in the NCAA National Championship match on Friday afternoon at Kalamazoo
